Althought this says 3 years and up, it must be for a random reason to do with safety perhaps? Nothing easily comes off, so no worries there. We haven't had an issue with it tipping, either. My son got this for his first Christmas when he was 10 months old. He is now 14 months old and still plays it several times a day. AND my 6 and 9 year old play with it, too! Neat thought: they play it because it's there, in the living room with all the toys. EVERY SINGLE TIME they start playing it, within minutes they have moved to our front room and they play the big real piano. So, it's a good thought - it inspires them to play the big piano. The countless keyboard toys we've owned over the years have NEVER had the same reaction. My son was a late sitter, late crawler and still isn't even close to walking. Although he recieves in home therapy, I'm not sure he qualifies as special needs, but he is delayed, and he loves the piano. It's not quiet, BUT it's also not an irritating sound that is too loud at all, not too high pitched, not irritating. Highly recommend this product. I see myself buying another bigger version in the future when my sons balance is good enough to sit on something unassisted. This is perfect size for a sitting infant/toddler.

It was all pre assembled! My child got to play with it right after he opened it. It's very sturdy, he uses it as a seat at times. Came with a book that teaches you how to play songs!

My son got this for his first birthday. Love the compact design when you have a housefull of toys you love stuff that doesn't take much room. He loves playing on it. Hoping a good beginners piano for him to learn on. Didn't want to invest in bigger one if he didn't seem interested.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Learn-to-Play Piano:

It was a gift for my grandson on his first birthday. He loves it. However, as I lifted it out of the box by pulling on one side of the top of it, the entire top came off in my hands. My husband was able to repair with glue and screws but for this price, I would expect it to be better quality.

I am recommending because it has a great sound quality and he loves it, but be advised to pick it up carefully by the sides and do not let the child sit on it or play roughly with it.

My baby is 5 months old and loves sitting. The piano is the perfect size for him to sit and bang the keys. He gets so excited playing that he actually shakes. We love it!! The piano is not very large and perfect for him.

**If he wasn't good at sitting and/or didn't like sitting this would not be a great toy for 5 months.

I love this piano. I bought it for my one year old daughter for her birthday because every time we go to her grandparents house she loves to bang on their pianos. Well she loved this present and loves to bang on the keys and her 3 year old cousin loves it to. The only thing is I got it for about [$]Anyways, regardless its a great product just like everything so far from Melissa and Doug!
