We installed this gate at the top of our stairs. It was a half inch too narrow, even stretched to its widest point, so my husband attached it to wooden blocks so that it would fit properly, which made installation tricky. It looks great, however, and looks like part of our home decor, not like a typical baby gate. Of course we'll still keep an eye on our adventurous one year old, but we feel quite secure knowing that the metal rods are strong enough should he pull himself up on them, and in the very unlikely event that we forget to lock it, the fact that it can't swing out over the stairs adds a bit of a safety net. It does take a bit of coordination to lift up and align the top and bottom to latch properly, so it doesn't earn five stars for convenience.

We needed a special gate for the top of our stair case that could connect to a banister and close at an angle. This was the best gate that kept turning up in our search and it was affordable. This gate took hours to assemble!!!! Both my husband and myself have assembled most of the furniture in our house and independently. We are very crafty and are great with directions. The instructions that came with the gate were atrocious!! While they came with illustrations and step by step directions, it was extremely unclear. It also came with a million screw bits. We had to assemble and disassemble the gate several times before we got it. We had to both talk out about what the instructions meant. The pictures on the box itself were clearer than the instructions. The directions said no drilling required, however, my husband needed 3 different drills. The screws that came with the gate were not wood screws and my husband had to go buy the correct ones. While this product was absolute hell to put together, it works really well to block my dogs, and hopefully will be childproof when my baby arrives.

Comments about KidCo Designer Angle Mount Safeway Gate:
We had a different gate before this one and exchanged it for this one because it doesn't have the bar that goes across the bottom. The bar is the worst idea ever! Can we say major trip hazard especially since people use gates by steps! This gate was easy to install and looks decent with our railing by the steps.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great gate, difficult to install

Overall, the gate works great and looks nice. It took my husband and father-in-law over an hour to install the first one at the bottom of the stairs. Easy to use once installed.

The gate itself is very nice looking and sterdy. The plastic pieces on the sides break way to easily. I have had to replace the pieces twice now! I use the gates for my 2 year old daughter from going up and down the stairs. They work great for her! I have a 5 year old son who is a little rough sometimes and that is how the gates get broken, but it is only the peces on the sides!!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Everything is good..... In Theory

Where to start... Well let's make it quick. This gate is good ... in theory. In Reality, the parts do not line up, they don't work, and if I wasn't a fabricator by trade, I would have taken it back. The gate's "easy to pull, open and lift" trick is impossible. The parts act as if they were all made for a different baby gate. I'm not slow, I'm not a moron, I can put IKEA together for God's sakes :-) But this darn gate was a nightmare, and it still isn't installed correctly. THIS was just to keep my Great Dane upstairs, I will be hiring a custom made one done by professionals when we have kids.
Sturdy and Functional

We used this at the top of our stairs and it works perfectly. It is sturdy and functional. Installation was challenging because we have it on wood paneling on one side and against metal railing on the other but my husband is a carpenter and made it work! I feel that the bars are a good distance apart so our daughter is safe against it.
Does the job for the price paid.

The gate seems a bit frail, but sturdy and serves the purpose for preventing my grandson from going downstairs. Only concern is that he hoists his foot and stands on the bottom rail (between the bars). Hard time assembling latch to wall. I wouldn't use the gate pass age 2, as a child may become strong enough to break bars, or push gate over or climb over.
