We installed this gate at the top of our stairs. It was a half inch too narrow, even stretched to its widest point, so my husband attached it to wooden blocks so that it would fit properly, which made installation tricky. It looks great, however, and looks like part of our home decor, not like a typical baby gate. Of course we'll still keep an eye on our adventurous one year old, but we feel quite secure knowing that the metal rods are strong enough should he pull himself up on them, and in the very unlikely event that we forget to lock it, the fact that it can't swing out over the stairs adds a bit of a safety net. It does take a bit of coordination to lift up and align the top and bottom to latch properly, so it doesn't earn five stars for convenience.

My husband and I were thrilled when we found this gate since it easily allows you to mount it at an angle as the doorway between our kitchen and living room was angled and most other gates don't accommodate this. The design looked pretty as well, so I am super disappointed and frustrated with the way it functions. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but to open the gate, you need to pull back on the latch and lift at the same time. The bottom hinge on the opposite side is designed so that the hinge easily lifts OUT of its bracket whenever you lift the handle to open the gate. I am constantly trying to get the gate back into the hinge and it's incredibly frustrating! The design would be so much better if the bottom hinge was designed the same way as the top hinge - preventing the door from lifting out. As much as I love the way the gate looks and the ability to be mounted on an angle, I wouldn't buy another one unless they changed the bottom hinge issue.

Everything is good..... In Theory

Comments about KidCo Designer Angle Mount Safeway Gate:
Where to start... Well let's make it quick. This gate is good ... in theory. In Reality, the parts do not line up, they don't work, and if I wasn't a fabricator by trade, I would have taken it back. The gate's "easy to pull, open and lift" trick is impossible. The parts act as if they were all made for a different baby gate. I'm not slow, I'm not a moron, I can put IKEA together for God's sakes :-) But this darn gate was a nightmare, and it still isn't installed correctly. THIS was just to keep my Great Dane upstairs, I will be hiring a custom made one done by professionals when we have kids.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Sturdy and Functional

We used this at the top of our stairs and it works perfectly. It is sturdy and functional. Installation was challenging because we have it on wood paneling on one side and against metal railing on the other but my husband is a carpenter and made it work! I feel that the bars are a good distance apart so our daughter is safe against it.

Does the job for the price paid.

The gate seems a bit frail, but sturdy and serves the purpose for preventing my grandson from going downstairs. Only concern is that he hoists his foot and stands on the bottom rail (between the bars). Hard time assembling latch to wall. I wouldn't use the gate pass age 2, as a child may become strong enough to break bars, or push gate over or climb over.
The hinges are plastic!

This gate looks great and seemed strong but the hinges are plastic! After less than a week the hinges snapped!
Tricky to install

The gate is a decent product but is somewhat difficult to install.
Safe, nice looking, and easy to install!
The wood look of this gate looks nice with our home decor. More importantly the gate attaches securely (with screws) to our trim and railing at the top of two stairways in our home. It took my husband less than 30 minutes to install each gate. The adjustable plastic corners were SUPER useful to us-we have a custom log railing that is not the same distance to the wall at the top & bottom of the end post.It does take some practice to be able to quickly latch the gate, as it has a locks at both the top and bottom that need to latch at the same time.Overall-great product that will be in our home, keeping our kiddo safe, for several years to come!

Love the gate itself, but was very frustrated with the installation that was suppose to be so easy.
Good in theory.....
Not easy to install and once we had it complete and tried it out the latch was so difficult to use. I couldn't open it at all and my husband only after a struggle. We uninstalled and hoping we can return it. It's a shame, we liked the way it went with our decor.

I purchased 4 of these gates. I have two sets of steps to prevent protect. I purchased these gates based on recommendations from the Baby Bargains book. It got the highest rating. Pros: I like the look of the gate - appears very sturdy. Cons: I am disappointed in the latch that opens and closes the gate. It's very difficult to use. I am not sure if it will get easier once it is used daily. I hope so b/c when you have a baby in your arms, you'd like it to be a one hand opening. :-(
