This was just awful. 8 year old son was so excited to get a microscope and maybe it's our fault by trying to 'cut corners' by not spending hundreds on an adult-level microscope, but it doesn't negate how awful this is. Toys R Us should not even sell something this bad. This is dollar-store quality. A cardboard box would give better magnification. Just because something is for children doesn't mean the quality should be abysmal, especially when it's advertised as educational. How can this be educational when it doesn't even work? Unfortunately it's too late for us to exchange or get a refund so it'll likely be going in the garbage because it's too awful to even inflict upon another innocent child.

Bottom line, parents..if you want to get a microscope for your little ones be prepared to shell out a fortune because trying to save a little money ends up in fecal pieces like this 'unit'.

Bought this item thinking that it will be good for my 6 year old daughter. But it was not at all working and not able see anything different other than the white light, no matter what ever focusing you do. Then I checked the reviews and came to know that most of the users rated very poorly.

This product does not work well. It's impossible to focus on the images. Everything just looks like a grey mess. I would give it 0 stars.

Santa delivered this to our 7 year old son . He was so excited . There was one prepared slide in kit. The light was too bright to see anything on the slide. The side viewer did not project any image. Toys r us should be ashamed to sell such a poor quality product.

This microscope is terrible! My son (7) recieved it in a gift exchange this year, and I actually feel bad for him! The led lighting is horrible - like others have said, it hurts your eyes within minutes of attemptint to use the 'standard' eyepiece. The external viewer is the only thing we can ever get anything on, and even that is terrible because Edu-Science had the brilliant idea of 'frosting' the plastic. The result? A fairly expensive toy that doesn't work the way it should - at all. The 2 slides that were included were poorly prepared (bubbles and artifacts sealed right next to the samples), and less than a week after getting it, I'm looking into getting him a nicer one. This microscope shouldn't be sold anywhere. I would expect better quality from a brand that claims to be all about science.

This thing is a total piece of garbage. You can not see anything through the top lens and the front "screen" is textured plastic which prevents a clear view. My eight year old daughter has tried to be excited about this but it is so hard to see anything that she has broken down crying because she can't make it work. This does not hold a candle to the starter microscope I had as a child, which I will be purchasing for my daughter, once I return this plastic waste of money.

I have a 7 year old science enthusiast daughter. And this looked like a no-brainer Christmas gift, but it is the first no-brainer return of the season. Cannot see anything but the bright light. Flimsy plastic, terrible optics, total disappointment.

I bought this for my 5 yr old son who wants to be a scientist. I've used microscope before and thought this might be a good introductory for him. However, save your $ and do your reseach... this product does not work.

This microscope didn't work straight out of the box. The focus wouldn't work at all! My son was very disappointed on Christmas morning! Will return as soon as the crowds dissipate at ToysRUs.
