My one year old has figured out how to play with this toy but sometimes he seems to forget and doesn't understand why it doesn't make a noise when he shakes it. It is a safe toy because my son tends to hit himself in the head with everything and this hasn't injured him in the process.

We got this as a hand-me-down from my kids' cousin years ago. It was a favorite for my two boys, now nearly 2 and 3 1/2. Their baby sister liked to gnaw on it too, but she's not at all picky. ;) Anyway, it finally cracked after 2-3 years of frequent use, plus however long their cousin had it. Batteries last forever (over a year) and noises aren't too loud or obnoxious, both a plus for parents. The hammer part is soft and didn't hurt much at all if they "accidentally" hit someone. But little kids also aren't that strong or coordinated to hit you too hard.

Sometimes simple toys are best, which we have seen proven true time and again with our kids. This was a huge hit! *ba-da-da-dum*

This hammer is GREAT!! The battery life is incredible! I received this as a gift for my first son when he was 1 yr old, and now, 4 yrs later, I've given it to my 11 mo. old who has been playing with it since he was 6 mos. Fun toy to have!

My 7 month old son shows no real interest in this toy at all. I would not buy it again. Very Boring toy. Other kids might like it but mine did not.

My son was 7 months old when I got this for him, he didn't quite get the concept that you had to hit the flat part against something but the noises distracted him if he was grumpy & crying. Overall though, it's a nice little toy.

My daughter is 6 months old and loves this toy. At first she just loved chewing on it so all the soft rounded edges and rubber parts were appreciated, soon though she learned that moving it around made the noise and lights go off. I think this is a great cause and effect teaching toy that is also very safe, sturdy (been dropped/thrown a few times), and a good value!

I was cruising the toy department at a local store with my 3 month old and this was the only toy that caught his attention when I held it up. He got a huge smile on his face and cooed. He's definately getting it for Christmas.
