I love this sandbox. Its says that it holds up to 300lbs of sand but that must be if it is filled to the rim because I put 160lbs of Crayola sand and it is about halfway up and the perfect amount of sand for this sandbox. I have 2 boys...a 1 year old and a 4 year old and this crabbie is perfect size for the two of them to enjoy playing in the sand together. I love the claw seats because when my oldest son feels that my little one is over crowding his area then he just sits on the claw to make even more play room for his little brother. I also want to comment about the Crayola sand. I have seen some people on other websites say that the colored sand stains clothes and skin. IT DOESNT! When a child plays in regular sand it turns clothes brown and skin looks dirty but you just wash the clothes and the body and it comes clean. Its the same with the colored sand. It may look stained because its blue or purple or whatever color you buy but as soon as you run clothes through the washer and kids take a bath they are clean again. Not stained just dirty with different colors. I would for sure recommend this crab sandbox. I love the lid feature. No water gets in! Its great! I do check the sandbox for snakes before my children use it because there are 2 small holes on each side of the crabbie. It is made this way so the sand can breathe and dry out after getting it wet. Yes you get the sand wet in order for the kids to make sandcastles. Not really wet just damp enough to be able to mold. Anyway so the sandbox is made with 2 small holes on each side of the crab where the lid meets the rim so I live somewhere with ALOT of snakes so just check everytime to make sure there are non in there.

I did my research on this sandbox, and it seemed to be a good one to get. I did read a few reviews that said that when it rained water would get in the sand, even with the lid on. Well, low and behold we had rain for a few days, and the sandbox had water in it! Lucky for me we didn't get to put the sand in yet, but the holes on the sides of the lid are allowing water and bugs in. I called step2 and they said that it is a new rule that they have to have the holes on the sides for ventilation. I don't know why some have to have this, but others don't? I returned it and got the turtle instead. It is smaller, but it is stronger and doesn't have the holes on the sides, so no leaking!

Nice size for 18 mos - 5 year-olds
Lid is a little on the flimsy side--I'm concerned that it won't hold up in even a light wind.
I bought two of these for my grandchildren and they love them even though we haven't added the sand yet.
I've read that if we put one cup of ground cinnamon in the box and mix it in with the sand, that it will deter bugs from getting in. I think we'll try this, especially since the lid has a small indentation (hole) space in the lid. I'm hoping rain won't get in and accumulate in the bottom of the sandbox.

The product is wonderful but your shipper is not good. The box was torn in many areas which could have compromised the quality in the product resulting in our return of the sandbox. Deep holes were all in the box and scratched a portion of the sandbox. If we had more time, I would have taken it back and asked for a replacement from Toys R Us but, since this was a birthday gift, I didn't have any choice but to give it to her. Probably will not use the online ordering system again. I'll just use another company instead.

Haven't had it a month so dont know how well it will hold up. It's fine for 1 maybe 2 little kids. Got impatient and bought one instead of building one. My sons 2 and it won't be long before he outgrows it.

my 2 and a half yr old grand daughter absolutley loves the look of this sand box. she named it sandy. the color and the eyes on the front make it so child friendly.
after 2 heavy downpours the sand remained totally dry. and the lid does not blow off in heavy winds. and 200 pounds of sand is more than enough (for us). this is the best sandbox I could have purchased.
