I was searching for this product to see if it was available at my local store and found this trail of comments and felt compelled to add my own. First let me state that I was actually searching for this specific product and as for I had used these wheels on my first child and the effects of them as a training aid, not a fall prevention system was profound. When installed on a bicycle properly sized for the child within the weight limitations they actually help the child learn to balance and compensate balance during turning and other situations requiring swift maneuvering. The key to installing them is to have them touching the ground before the rear tire therefore creating a spring preload which aids in fall prevention. This preload can be increased or decreased by how far they are placed compared to the tire. What makes these things better then traditional wheels is the fact they are springs which allow the bike to lean which is required when turning or pedaling hard. Traditional rigid wheels provided a false sense of security and nominal balance proficiency in which the child actually must re learn to balance and turn the bike once they are removed. Don't believe me, put rigid training wheels on a bike and have a child who has been riding without them for some time give it a shot and watch them struggle, but put these springy ones on and they ride pretty naturally.

First of all, they were difficult to put on. The frame of the training wheels are about 5/16" wide, maybe 3/8" thick with the bracket. This left very little space for the nut to go back onto the axel bolt (see my photo). In fact, I had to go buy new nuts because the original equipment could not grab the axel bolt. The design of the bracket did not keep the device in place on this Schwinn 20" bike. For a system that relies on friction to keep the device at the proper height, this is a failure waiting to happen. When my 7 year old tipped to one side, the training wheel frame slipped upwards. Fail!I'm returning these to the store and getting the old fashioned, tried and true kind that have holes drilled every inch or so to keep the wheels locked at the height that I place them. And then every couple weeks, I'll move the wheels up, just like when I was a kid.

Comments about Bell Sports EZ Training Wheels:
was sold to me as the accompanying training wheels for my 4 year old's new bike. Spent $25.000 and the product doesn't support his weight AT ALL. Buy them if you want get training wheels that don't train. They don't support enough for a kid learning to ride to acquire confidence.

Only for Children < 50 pounds
By Irritated Mom
Pay attention to the back of the packaging, folks, because they don't list it on the product details. I've tried looking on the manufacturer website and you can't even find them! (Go ahead and try it now, go to www.thebellgarage.com and do a search for "training wheels". You'll get NOTHING).Only for kids under 50 pounds? REALLY? I have a 6 year old who is very, VERY VERY skinny for her height and weight, and she's 49 pounds. WITHOUT her gear, just her clothes and shoes. How old do they expect kids to be to use these things, 4?

Wish I had looked these up online before purchasing them at the store. they do not support the bike enough to act as training wheels.

The product arrived on time, but the training wheels were for a bike size 20" or less. The website specifically stated up to 24". I was misled. Now I have return and request shipping cost.

We brough these when our son needed training wheels for his 20" bicycle. We thought after seeing these they would be great for him. Brought them home and my husband had a hard time putting then together and they were a pain to even to put on. This product is so bad it doesn't even Deserve a star! We'll be returning these to the store and getting our money back. We'll be going to a local bike shop and getting training wheels from there.

instructions are vage
from chicago il
the pictures and the words don't match. hard to figure out how many washers, which grove to put the c-clip. no mention on how the wheels should be afterward, wiggly, spin smoothly...??? lots of questions, no answers. i'd let a friend buy them knowing they are better at this stuff then me.

Great training wheels

About Me Casual/ Recreational
I initially purchased these training wheels for a hand-me-down bike that was my son's first. They worked just as advertised – the thing I liked best was that he wouldn't "high spot" when going over bumps and the springs would keep both the training wheels and the rear wheel on the ground. My son has outgrown his first bike, so we bought him a new bike that included the manufacturer's training wheels and passed the EZ Training Wheels down to his younger sister. She is already riding like a pro, and he is still trying to adjust to the rigid training wheels. Most of his falls result from high spotting or from the rigid wheels getting caught on the uneven sidewalks in the neighborhood (he is actually bending the hardware that holds the manufacturer's training wheels on the bike from this). The EZ Training Wheels just spring back over the unevens and allow the child to keep riding. I am going to be purchasing him a new set of EZ Training Wheels to replace the manufacturer's rigid ones so that he can get his confidence back so we can hopefully wean him off of training wheels altogether by the end of the summer.
Eases transition to "big boy" bicycle

Limited experience with product thus far, but is a good way for a child to transition from toddler to big kid bicycle. Provides that extra necessary assurance as children learn and adapt to a bigger bicycle.
