My son is almost two and occasionally enjoys using this product in the way its intended. He is very excited about locating the circles but has trouble building the squares to interlock and becomes easily frustrated. I am not sure how it became circle, square and octagon as the octagon shape seems a little advanced in the beginning for teaching shape recognition. Also the sphere atop the circles has become a weapon in his hands and is no longer used when playing with this toy. Also during clean up it becomes an ongoing game of putting it back together because it is difficult for a young child to balance it upright and place it down in its proper spot. Overall though there are lots of games that can be played with this toy in teaching shapes, color, and size recognition.

My daughter recently turned one year old and I bought her this product with a gift card she received for her birthday.
She plays with it every day and enjoys the process of putting the pieces in and taking them out.
It´s just wonderful to see how simple products can bring so much joy.

This was given as a birthday gift and it is probably one of my most hated toys that we own. For me, too many pieces! My son seemed to enjoy it but there was no difference in excitement between a fisher price (plastic) toy. The sharp edges on the square and octoganal pieces have made for a lot of crying fits as well. I also tried to hide the stand as much as possible, I could just see a toddler falling directly on the pegs and hurting themselves.

Now for construction, VERY shoddy. It's been 4 months and my 18mos old son was able to pull the pegs right out of the toy. He now uses the sticks as mini drum sticks.

The toy has been trashed and slowly throwing out the pieces and replacing with softer foam blocks that he can play with.

This is a wonderful stacker! It has bright colors, good size, and a little twist to one of the the shapes that can add more of a challenge as the child gets older. My daugther is two and loves stacking them over and over! Very good educational toy to teach colors, shapes, and hand and eye coordination. Also, toys that have built in storage for their pieces are a super bonus! I love Melissa and Doug products!

I registered for this and it sat on our daughters shelf for the first 8 months of her life...then one day she showed interest and I let her explore it. She loves this toy! I was a bit worried about the pegs in the beginning so once she got all the blocks off it, I would stash the base. It keeps her very interested and I assume from the other posts, will so for the next year or two! Great classic!

My 3 yo daughter really likes this toy. She's had it over a year now and it's still one that she will play with and challenge her at times. It's great for hands on work and discussing shapes w/parents. Really nice addition and a step up from basic stacking toys or just the circle ones if that is what you are looking for. Would also make a great gift!

I've struggled with finding toys or activities for my 20 month old for a while now. I'll introduce something new only for it to be pushed aside after an hour and not picked up ever again. We have stopped buying toys a while back because it was a waste of money. This toy was given to us by my in-laws about 4 months ago and it is still used on a daily basis. You can see his little gears turning in his head as he maneuvers the pieces onto the spindles. I've removed and since lost the top pieces, he wasn't grasping the fact that not every piece can be pushed to the bottom and those had to go on last. Now this doesn't happen every time he plays with it, but a good portion his focus is on those little blocks. I'm actually surprised on how long he can focus on this activity and how long this toy has lasted. I would not have probably picked this up myself, I thought he was passed the block stage for a while (we tried and it wasn't there for him) but please give this a try. You'll be quite surprised.

My son is 17 months and this actually keeps his attention longer than any other toy. He doesn't quite get the order but it engages him to put the shapes on the sticks. Love it
