I am an avid LEGO Star Wars Collector and Republic Army builder, thus, when this set had its first rumors in January, I was all over it. Let's say my patience has expanded after waiting half a year for this set. I unfortunately missed out on the 2008 model of this fantastic set, but all is well in the end. The Box and it's parts: The box features the new 2013 LEGO Star Wars design which features a green background to complement the Yoda figure in the top right of the box. The box advertises a poster inside and shows the minifigures with details of the set's features on the back. After opening the box you will find 10 bags. 9 include the set pieces and are numbered 1-9. The 10th bag includes the 2 books of set instructions, a piece of cardboard (to place the set on as you build and work on it), a sheet of stickers, and the poster. The instructions are thoroughly detailed and give you a general overlook of what you will build with each bag. Unlike most, if not all, previous sets, (and I suspect many of the large 2013 sets do this as well) the 1st bag does not contain all the minifigures for the set. Instead, they are given in bags 1, 5, 6, 7, and 9. Finally, the poster is double-sided,somewhat large, and on one side has a gallery of the 2013 Star Wars minifigures. The opposite side looks as if it was painted and features three of the new 2013 summer sets all in battle. The Build: The build mixes various bricks and technic pieces. The build is extremely fun and took me about 2 1/2 hours to build. I do not believe the build is challenging and is about an average difficulty, yet I have been building for awhile, thus, it could be somewhat difficult for less experienced builders. Some may find a few phases of the build boring because of some repetitiveness in such places as the wings, doors, and engines. I did not find it boring and enjoyed having my younger sister build the other part with me as I did another. I thoroughly enjoyed the build and thinking of how the LEGO designers came up with their ideas of how to make such an excellent set. The colored pieces and stickers did an amazing job in making an authentic and accurate looking Republic Gunship. Many people do not like the stickers, and although it would be nice to have more printed pieces, I have no problems with the stickers. The minifigures: The minifigures chosen by LEGO to accompany this beastly set were an obvious, with the exception of the Clone Trooper Captain, but accurate choice. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padme Amidala all feature double-sided heads. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme look the most accurate they have according to their Episode II: Attack of the Clones counterparts. Obi-Wan's hair is a great mould for his face and Anakin's face looks the best so far against his previous LEGO Episode II portaryals. Padme features her clawed back from the Geonosis Arena and has an extremely detailed face, even including pink lipstick. The clone troopers add great character to the set and have almost exact detailing to the movie clones. The faces are smaller than the Clone Wars clones and are slightly different but still express a fierce determination to win their battle. The clone pilot has a small pistol to accompany him and the clone captain features a LEGO version of a DC-15a. The super battle droids are not new but the versions from 2007. The Complete Model: The finished gunship has a myriad of features. The most notable are the opening cockpits, opening doors on the side and back, the 4 movable ball turrets, flick-fire rockets, and rotating blaster canons. I will not list the rest of them as I believe that part of the fun of building and playing is searching and finding the features for yourself. The playability of this beauty of a ship is amazing. The inside troop bay can hold many clone troopers, so far I have fit ten clones inside, each with weapons. I have also been able to fit a clone walker from the 2009 clone battle pack in there with about 4-6 other clones. The gunship can hold many things and is a perfect addition to any clone army in need of transporting troops to distant locations. It's many armanents keep it and its cargo safe, especially with the rockets. Conclusion: This Republic Gunship or, in exact Star Wars terms, LAAT/i, is an amazing set and might be the best of the 2013 summer Star Wars sets. However, there is only one thing I would have changed. The side doors of the gunship do not completely enclose the side of the gunship leaving a gap between one end of the troop bay to the other. This is easily fixed by the purchase of only 4 technic pieces to have it completely enclose. To LEGO's defense, I am not sure if you ever see the doors completely closed in the Episode II movie, thus, this is no design flaw, but rather personal preference on my part. Do not let this lead you to believe I do not like the set because of this. Others have expressed their feeling that the set needs more regular clone troopers. Although this would be nice, it is a marketing technique by LEGO to split up the clones. In conclusion, this set is one of the most amazing I have bought and if I had the money, I would buy another one, it is that excellent! If you have read this entire review, kudos to you! Please click the thumbs up if it was helpful and thorough!

    Between 2008 and 2012, ...

    By iReckon

    from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship (75021):

Between 2008 and 2012, LEGO released dozens of sets inspired by the animated television series and one-off movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but comparatively few from the live action films sat either side of it. However, the premature demise of Dave Filoni’s hit series would leave the doors wide open for 2013’s first wave of Star Wars sets to be dominated by the often-underrated Episode II, with more than half a dozen sets taking their inspiration from that initial attack of the clones. I’ve been in the market for a Republic gunship for some time now, and so was delighted to see it taking pride of place as the top-tier 2013 Attack of the Clones set. Save for the Venator-class attack cruisers, which from an aesthetic point of view I rate even more highly than I do the colourless star destroyers of the original trilogy, these gunships are my favourite vehicles from the Clone Wars, and they’re definitely one of the most iconic. Their presence was felt throughout the conflict, appearing in countless animated episodes as well as the decisive Revenge of the Sith, but I don’t think that they’ve ever had quite the same impact that they did when they first set the burnt orange skies of Geonosis alight in the Clone Wars’ opening battle depicted in Episode II’s final act. And, unlike its 2008 Clone Wars movie-inspired LEGO incarnation (set #7676), it is that spectacular cinematic sequence that this set strives to recreate. With almost 1,200 pieces, this 18â€ gunship boasts more elements than the attack cruisers meant to house hundreds of its type. As a result, this set feels very much like a special collector’s edition set in the mould of Red Five, such is its detail, but of course here everything is minifigure scaled for maximum playability. The belly of the craft, which can be accessed via side doors that don’t quite close, is easily large enough to house a decent-sized detachment of clone troopers and their Jedi generals, and this is before we even consider the gun turrets and cockpits that can also be manned. The thoughtful design also contains five storage containers in which the minifigures’ weapons can be stored whilst they operate their various stations, as well as separate compartments to the aft and stern, one of which can be used to house Anakin’s swoop bike (which is admittedly a little out of place here, far from the Lars’ homestead on Tatooine) and the other either more minifigures or reserve flick missiles or lightsabers. Best of all though, the gunship is a dazzlingly clean white adorned with proud Republic red, and to a lesser extent, lime green liveries. It’s spectacular to behold, if not reflective of the grim realities of war. The set’s minifigure complement is every bit as extraordinary, offering seven characters for the RRP, including brand new Attack of the Clones iterations of Obi-Wan Kenobi; Anakin Skywalker; and Padmé Amidala. The floppy-haired and facially-hirsute Obi-Wan is the standout; he’s instantly redolent of Ewan McGregor’s dry Episode II portrayal. Similarly, the Anakin minifigure is by far his most convincing Episode II LEGO interpretation, the added detail in the outfit and hairpiece (woefully miscoloured though it is) offering a good likeness of the troubled teen Romeo. And after years in yellow and then even longer in absentia, a flesh-tone Padmé is now cropping up all over the shop in minifigure form, but never more welcomely than here. With her tight bun and even tighter outfit, duly frayed by the Patrenaki arena’s rampaging nexu, she’s every inch the gun-toting Juliet that Natalie Portman was on screen. All three stars boast reversible headpieces, as is fast becoming the LEGO standard, allowing you to alter their expressions from mildly vexed to utterly enraged. The two clone troopers aren’t by any means as exciting, though the captain is the first of his rank to enter my personal LEGO Grand Army of the Republic, and the super battle droids are wholly dull and grey â€" just as they are on screen, so no complaints there. The only real problems with this set are its overreliance on stickers and its almost amusing fragility. I’m a relatively dexterous man in his early thirties, and I managed to break off several extremities just getting the thing up into my loft, so I shudder to think what damage nine to fourteen-year-olds might wreak should the craft find itself in their age-appropriate thrall. Of course, rebuilding is half the fun of LEGO â€" provided you can find the tiny pieces again, that is. A final thought is that you simply can’t buy this set in isolation. Even if you’re immune to the marketing of all the associated Episode II sets released alongside this one, the set looks distressingly incomplete with its skeleton crew of just two clones. You need at least four or five battle packs’ worth of troopers to make this thing look anything like the business, so if you are considering adding it to your empire, you’ve got to be prepared to make a few expensive trips to Kamino to boot. A beautiful display centerpiece

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship (75021):

Self-admittedly, I love the gunships from the Clone Wars cartoon series and the movies. They look amazing, they bring tons of firepower to the battle, and they just look "cool". When I finally made the decision to buy this set, I eagerly was looking forward to the build. The only real negative to this set is that you are going to want to pilfer minifigures from other sets to fill this out with more clone troopers. That said, let's move on to the great parts. - There's plenty of space in the gunship and, with the retracting doors, you could easily place a dozen figures in the transport area with room to spare. - The deployable speeder from the rear hatch is neat and locks into place very well. - There is a rear, top compartment with a hatch that has plenty of space to hold spare weapons which is just a neat feature. - The rear mounted laser is just one of those little features they could have skipped but makes you realize how detailed the set is. - The set is very large but feels very sturdy due to a good underlying construction for the set. While the wings have a little give, they don't feel like they could pop off and are very well secured. - The pivoting laser mounts can be easily removed if you want to add more room for mini-figures as well. You could probably even put a small vehicle in the transport area. - I feel like the set has a lot of potential in terms of recreating battle scenes - with a few pieces you could probably even carry a walker type vehicle into battle. - Right now, I have it as one of my main display pieces and I don't see that changing. It looks great, it's fun to set up with different scenes, and it just really meets all expectations. Buy it and enjoy!

        Republic Gunship

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship (75021):

This set was a great set for me as a very experienced builder. I would recommend this set from the play ability you can do with this. This set features great detail and figures. This set should have added more clones though, like another clone pilot and a clone trooper. When you get this set and finish building, you will see that something is missing from it. Its the 2 clones that should have been added. This set is perfect when you have the AT-TE or any more republic vehicles you have. This set is $119.00 but is worth the money. I would totally recommend this to anyone.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship (75021):

This set is the best set I've ever bought. It comes with all the necessary mini-figures(besides a second pilot), and a cool swoop bike in the back. It has loads more space than the previous Republic Gunship and looks WAY better. Although it would be nice if the doors fully closed, I do like the turrets on either side. I also like the extra flick missiles for the top, but I wish that the missiles could roll into the Gunship like it does in the movie. I loved the build and I'm very glad that it's strong so it rarely breaks. This is a great set and recommend this set to everyone.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship (75021):

This is a great model with lots of cool stuff going on. Building it wasn't particularly challenging for an adult but is probably a little more challenging for little ones. The important thing is that my six year old son absolutely loves it. There are so many places to put Clone Troopers and Jedi, and a couple little hiding places for a speeder and guns and stuff. It's pretty big and a little heavy, but luckily it has a handle that pops up to make it easier for little ones to carry it on a mission. The doors that swing open come off pretty easily and my son gets frustrated putting them back on, but otherwise no complaints. Maybe I'll have to use the Kraggle to hold it together....
