    My favorite set so far!

    By SuperCAD79

    from Kensoha

    Comments about LEGO Technic 4 X 4 Crawler Co-creation 41999:

I have a lot of Technic large scale car sets, but this one has to be my favorite. The shape of the body is so close to a Plymouth/Dodge E-Body that it wouldn't take too much effort to turn it into my all time favorite '71 Cuda. Given that this set is limited to 20Kk units, I didn't think there was any way to get one other than being scalped on evil-bay. We made a last minute decision to go on a vacation to the Mall of America in MN, and I'm sure glad we did. As we were walking through the LEGO store, I noticed two of these on the shelf and I just had to get one. Now I'm the proud owner of EK 12613. It only took 5 or 6 hours to put together, but I was rushing through it so I could still spend time with the wife and kid. I still haven't put the stickers on, and probably won't given their tendency to peel off after a number of years. I think for an exclusive set like this, LEGO should have opted for Tampo or pad printing for the parts that get the stickers. The only two problems I had with the set were the small hole in the box, which sticks out like a sore thumb when on display, and the IR receiver does not work on the red side (but I'm getting a replacement). If you get a chance to, get one of these sets. You won't be sorry.

    41999 Loved it

    By nairb58

    Comments about LEGO Technic 4 X 4 Crawler Co-creation 41999:

Building the 41999 was very unique because I have never built a 4-wheeled drive vehicle before. Independent suspension on all tires and power to both front and back independently. My recommendation is to check your parts before you start to make sure that you got all of them. I didn’t and am awaiting missing pieces even as I type. Great model “an old Ford Fairmont is the inspiration of the build and it has a very large lift kit. Loved it and would recommend it to all who want a radio controlled Lego kit. Cheers,

I hope LEGO releases this again.

    Comments about LEGO Technic 4 X 4 Crawler Co-creation 41999:

I built this yesterday for my birthday. I have not yet applied the stickers but it already looks great. I love the blue with white stripes, the headlights (I added another light), and it's fun for the kids and me to drive this over obstacle courses. I'm using the 8878 battery box to save some weight, I think that helps with the obstacle courses. The car is still quite heavy, but the L motors do a good job. When my son's friends come, and play with this awesome monster truck, then I'm sure they'll want to have one. So it's a pity that the exclusive edition is sold out, but I hope that LEGO will release a regular edition of 41999 so that more people will get to enjoy this set. The contents of the set suggests that LEGO is planning to have a regular edition of this set. This set contains a license plate with a unique number out of 20000 (mine is EK 02502). But it also contains a white tile of the same size (2x4) and a sticker (EK 41999) that fits on that tile, but neither the 2x4 tile nor that EK 41999 sticker are used in the instructions. My guess is that this tile and sticker are included because it'll be used for a non-exclusive edition, so my guess/hope is that there will be such an edition. Finally, kudos to the designer, this is great.

    Very Beautiful Crawler

    By Anonymous

    from IJsselstein, UT

    Comments about LEGO Technic 4 X 4 Crawler Co-creation 41999:

It took me less than six hours to build this beautiful set including adding all stickers and messing around with the thread for the winch (a problem I always have). This Crawler has the same basis as the 9398 4X4 Crawler but is in lots of ways different to the previous one. The extra in this Special Edition Crawler is a motorized winch, the front lights and also the cool white lines on the tires. Most beautiful is the way how this Crawler looks compared to the previous one, with its chrome elements and dark blue colouring of the bodywork. The unique license plate showing the serial number and total number of manufactured sets can be changed into a license plate showing the set number. Although much of the start of the building had a kind of deja vu, the latter part where the body of the car was taking into shape the real pleasure started and could not wait to see it finished and to see it driving (and upsetting my cat).

    4X4 Crawler a Fabulous Re-Introduction to Technic!

    By Taoislego

    from Chapel Hill

    Comments about LEGO Technic 4 X 4 Crawler Co-creation 41999:

I’m an adult fan, and have been a conventional brick builder for most of my life. Back in 1980 when I was 10 years old, I got my first Technic set (back then it was called an Expert Builder Technical Set): the 8860 Car Chassis. For its time, it was a marvel of engineering. 4 cylinder engine with working pistons, a real 2 speed transmission, rack and pinion steering, and fully adjustable bucket seats. I built it in a day, and after several hours of delighted play, my Dad brought out the surprise gift: a motor! I've been an adult builder for almost 5 years, and I've been building mostly conventional brick sets; the modular building series being one of my favorites. I’m also a big Star Wars fan, and most of these sets have Technic structures and features. The new X-Wing model 10240 has an amazingly engineered gear box and wing folding assembly. But I've shied away from the 100% Technic sets themselves. Without bricks and studs, they just didn't look or feel like Lego to me. That’s when I came across a review, quite by accident, of the other 4X4 Crawler, the 9398. I was enthralled. Photos of differentials, drive trains, rack and pinion steering, motors, servo, and REMOTE CONTROL! Images of that old Car Chassis awoke the gear-head in me. I had to have it! Technic has come a long way since 1980. The engineers at TLG continue to amaze and thrill me. This remote control 4X4 Crawler was an absolute delight to build. The chassis itself is quite complex with many gears and axles. Everything has been thoroughly thought out and engineered: all the gears are boxed in nice and snug, eliminating slippage; the servo motor, drive motors and battery box are incorporated elegantly into the chassis; and the suspension ties it all together nicely. If you like gears and moving parts, you will love this model! The body of this Crawler is tough! It resembles a 1970 Dodge Charger muscle car, and in my mind, a much better body facade than the 9398 sport pickup. There’s an amazing working winch under the hood that is controlled by a pole switch next to the steering wheel. The tan seats inside are made using a conventional brick SNOT technique with brick plates and tiles. The white stripes down the middle, front-end detailing, and rear spoiler add to the all-American muscle car feel. The LED headlights are also a nice touch - makes crawling in the dark very fun! The body facade lifts up quite elegantly for easy access to the battery box. And once it’s all assembled, the fun only continues. The model works seamlessly: The 4 wheel drive steering in particular is impressive for a tightly engineered plastic model with lots of gears and NO lubrication :) The turning radius is a bit wide, but acceptable. The model is slow, and it’s supposed to be. There are many complaints about the speed of the 9398 (the chassis is identical), but this a crawler - it’s meant to be slow, with more torque for climbing common household objects like pillows, shoes, and piles of Legos! And although it won’t climb everything, changing vectors of approach will help to tackle stubborn shapes and sizes. Rocking back and forth for traction also can help get you out of a tough jam. If you want a faster model, it’s easy to reverse 2 gears on both drive sides (the small black gear attached to the motor, and the large tan gear that transmits the power to the drive train), but it will reduce torque and hinder its ability to climb, as well as drain the batteries faster. Honestly, both ways are fun for different reasons! And since you’re considering $200 for this set, splurge a little more for a large pack of AAs. This was a phenomenal re-introduction to Lego Technic. I highly recommend this model for the 10-year-old and adult gear-head in all of you. It was a genuine pleasure to build, and has continued to be a pleasure to drive. Have I abandoned the brick? Not a chance! But you can bet I’ll be looking at Technic more closely in the future. Good Job Lego!
