I always thought I was an average 27 year old woman, but I guess maybe not. I was able to install several of these rather quickly and that included looking around for tools and reading the instructions. I have to admit that I was annoyed that I didn't have the exact drill bit, but I was able to make do with a bit of know how.

Trust me there were a few cons to this product but can we ever be 100% satisfied with a single product? I know I'm not. The directions were decent, but they didn't go indepth about how to use the extensions that were included. You have to look at the bottom of the page and really look at the picture they provide you. It tells you exactly what pieces to use for which thickness your cabinet is. So, for those of you who say they only work if you have thin cabinets, you just didn't fully understand the directions which is understandable.

Another hint- I used a piece of tape around my drill bit to provide me with a marker for depth. The collar they provide is useless in my opinion. Overall, I love this product and will buy more if we ever move to a new house, even if my kids are older. Very nice and easy to use.

Very SLICK product, works great! I bought a set of these to secure my entertainment center from my 1 y/o who is now in to playing with buttons and knobs. Now the doors won't open even 1/8" withouth the key! No more pinched fingers. The included templates made the alignment a breeze! Double back tape, mark the interior of the cabinet, close the door and the template sticks to the door for marking. You just need to drill deeper for thicker doors and add the plugs / slugs per the instructions as needed. I installed two locks in 15 minutes. They work up to a thickness of 1 9/16". The negative comments from some saying their cabinets were too thick probably didn't read the directions. I am going to get more of these to replace the cheap latches I have in my kitchen that allow the door to open 3" before stopping and pinches my boy's fingers when he closes them. Besides, he will soon figure out how to defeat the cheap plastic latch locks and he won't be able to defeat these magnetic locks.

They take a bit to install but they are nice looking and very strong. TIP:1.)Don't use the drill depth guage, use a sharpie on your bit, more accurate. 2.) Use clear tape to secure the striking plate before u drill, lets u test location. 3.)TEST, TEST, TEST the locks before you secure them! (I had one faulty one) 4.) Use a small nail & hammer to mark screw holes, a pen dosen't work. Follow these tips and enjoy an easy installation! P.s. buy an extra key and keep in other safe place!

i love this product and it is in deed child proof, but what i dont like is that if you loose the key then you have to buy a new set just to get your cabinets opeand. i wish they sold the keys sepretly

These are the best locks money can buy. They are easy to install if you just follow instructions and use the guide provided. We have some doors that are very thick and they work GREAT on them I just added the extentions that came with them. Magnet is plenty strong enough. The locks hold door tightly closed and you cannot pull or yank them open no matter how hard you try. We weren't sure if we would like them so we only bought one package. After installing and putting them to the test we will be buying enough for every cabinet door and drawer in our house. I would also suggest getting a second magnet key just in case one gets locked up on accident because there will be no opening the drawer or door - they will locked in. They really are that strong. Not one bad thing can be said about these locks.

These are BY FAR the BEST cabinet safety item out there! I had the old ones that you open a little and push down on the lock and my son opened the drawer enough to pinch his little fingers!!! His thumb nail turned all blue and purple. I went and bought these- installed them myself using a drill, and now the drawers don't open AT ALL!!! No more pinched fingers! A little tip- when you install, don't screw in the screws all the way until you've adjusted the plastic for a perfect match up. Once you have them lined up perfectly- despite the little sticker guide, then tighten the screws for a perfect fit. Well worth the money! And they will keep adults out too- in case you need to lock up anything for privacy/security. My make-up drawer is safe from curious fingers too- no more lipstick liners used as crayons! And you have the option of unlocking them when you need to also- which nothing else can do without uninstalling!!! I can't tell you enough how fantastic these locks are!!!

After having the contents of cabinets ejected during an earthquake, I have been looking for
a method of securing cabinet doors. After trying
many products, the Tot Lok is the only one that
has received spousal endorsement, because it is
easy, strong, and invisible. This is one very
well designed product.
I would suggest some minor changes in the installation instructions as follows:

1. When using the template, I mark with a nail, one screw hole on the Striking Plate, one screw hole on the Lock Assembly and the larger plunger hole. I predrill these two screw holes and the plunger hole.
2. I attach both the Lock Assembly and the Striking Plate with a single screw and then
predrill the remaining screw holes using the
Striking Plate and the Lock Assembly as guides.
3. I then install all the remaining attaching screws.

To make a storage location for the key, I purchased blank switchplate covers made of metal and screwed them on the bottom of the cabinets. They are out of the way and ready for use.

As other revierwers have said, this is the only lock solid enough to keep out determined toddlers. Being able to disable them means you only have to install them once and allows you to deactivate them when you have guests, etc.

While locks did take some time for my husband to install, he found the instructions and the template very effective at getting a perfect fit. Just take your time. If you have thick doors you will need to add the extension plug(s) and do some tests to find the right depth, but the package clearly states the door thicknesses that it will work on.

I have been a nanny for 8 years and had never seen these until the current family I am working for. I have seen, in the past, pinched/smashed fingers and children who could open the "latch style" locks. That pretty much results in useless "child-proofing" and frustrated kids, parents, and nannies. The family I'm currently working for has 4 children, and none of them are able to get into the dangerous cabinets because of these locks. As far as installation, I wasn't there for that. But none of their custom-made cabinets are messed up on the outside (or inside, for that matter), the "keys" work WONDERFULLY on every cabinet, and although they only have one key, it's never been locked in a cabinet before. So, I think these are fantastic. I'm expecting my first this September and these are what I'll be purchasing for my home and trust me, I've seen them all.

They are somewhat difficult to install, and it does take some courage to start drilling holes into the back of your furniture, but they really aren't impossible to install correctly. If you are careful you aren't going to damage anything. You simply need to be able to pay attention to details, or perhaps even read the installation instructions.
We've used these for a while and like their small size and ease of use. They are not nearly as conspicuous as other locks, and no child can outsmart/outmuscle these like they can/do with other kinds of locking devices.
Our 18 month old boy even took some magnetic fridge letters(Leapfrog phonics) and tried to open the doors, but it didn't work simply because he didn't have a strong enough magnet.
It may take a little time to get used to/remember where you need to put the "key" on the door, but it really isn't bad. Grandparents/visitors who don't use them often are the only ones who have trouble finding the correct spot.
We wouldn't use anything else.
