Thomas got some tough reviews but he has stood up to the abuse of 2.5 year old twin boys and just keeps chugging along. The engines are well built and have withstood being dropped many times. The only part of the train that is a little poorly constructed is the screw that holds the battery in: it doesn't always tighten all the way. It took some supervision to teach the kids how to play with the engines. We showed them how to turn Thomas on and off and not to push the trains when they were running before letting them play on their own. Thomas and the Imaginarium Train table are amongst our best toy purchases: they keep the boys entertained for hours.

I bought this train for my son's 3rd birthday, and the first one we brought home worked for a day. The light worked fine, but the wheels would not turn. I returned it and traded it for a new one, and within a day I had the exact same problem. This time I shook it in all different directions, and something inside would give a little pop, and it would start working again. There is something with the mechanism that gets stuck and it won't run.

My son loves the train and loves watching it go around the track. If I could get it work all the time that would be wonderful.

Comments about Learning Curve 1001175 Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Engine - Battery Powered Thomas:

This was NOISY. Yes this is the one with the little light in the front that also wears out the battery quicker. This one is as noisy as "Trackmaster" motorized Thomas the train engines.
Normally I would not be harsh on Tomy / RC2 - Learning Curve Thomas products. I actually favor their quality but not in this case.

I returned it for the quiet Fisher Price version. The Fisher Price version does not have a light but it's no big deal. You will be amazed at how smooth and quiet the Fisher Price version is. FYI - ToysRus carries both versions. So it was as easy as recognizing the label in the bottom right corner of the box and returning this one and getting the Fisher Price one: SWAP - even exchange!

The AA battery is not included. However, our grandson just loves it. The battery propelled train was able to pull six railroad cars and 3 engines around the track and up on bridges with no problem. The battery needed replacement within the day, but he played with it quite abit.

After seeing a neighbor's child with the motorized Thomas, I knew we needed one for my 2 yr-old boy. so, we ordered one online, but we had troubles with the one we recieved. So, after a hastle of a return, we finally got a good one. It works great, but the batteries run out often and thre's no auto shut-off, so if you're not watching it'll sit there and run hours on end - thus the batteries running out often...

A little slow, but it keeps on chuggin'! Great for pulling cars around a track. Slower than Percy for some reason.

My son loves this train. He will sit for hours and watch it go around his track. I didn't think that it would be able to pull very many cars behind it, but I was surprise when my son attached 7 cars to it and it still pulled them all. He has had it for a couple weeks and we haven't had to change the batteries yet!

My son uses the product everyday and leaves it on for hours and still a battery will last about 2 weeks for us in it. It's also strong enough to pull every train he owns at one time which is about 12 with only needing a little help sometimes to get up the hills on the track. Great toy to add onto any young train lovers set!!!

My 2 yr old received this as a christmas gift and LOVES it!!!!! There is nothing negative at all to say about it. He plays w/it all day everyday and has gone through an average of 2 batteries a week. He constructs a kamakazi bridge w/his track and table and sends thomas over the edge, therefore falling to the floor....I cant even begin to count how many times a day he does this and thomas just keeps on going w/no problem. Thomas also pulls about 10 other trains on the track and even our carpet w/no problems.
