This crane is the biggest with a record breaking 2,606 pieces. Many say this Lego set has the most pieces recorded on a Technic Lego set. When you hold the giant box, trust me its heavy. You can almost carry anything with this monster crane. So have fun. Oh one more thing, you need a lot of patience, it took me 3 and a half hours just to complete the main truck.

I'm the odd one out here, seems everyone here is happy with 42009. Really can't say much more thats all ready been said about 42009. In saying that my experience with 42009 has been somewhat disappointing. Those annoying outriggers, could never quite figure them; I was left unhappy with it. Over looked build, no mistakes that I did, just mistake by that one Lego designer who made 42009. Those out riggers are just flawed , was that unhappy sold it to someone else to deal with the puzzle. Wile I enjoyed the build and like the look of it, I could not keep an model with a design flaw, sad to see it go happy that I no longer have to look at a paper weight. Shame that the outriggers spoil the whole model.

Excellent Value - Keeper for My Lego Collection

    By DoghouseBassPlayer

    from Hanford

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

Upon opening the large fold-out graphic carton, I discovered six books of instructions, and twenty-four bags of parts. The bags were numbered and the books were too. Each of the three large components of the crane were built from the corresponding numbered bags, thus helping to avoid from having 2606 Lego pieces out on the table at one time. The instructions were well shown, the circled items gave a focused view of the changes being made. I found it interesting as the instructions gave directions to assemble some features to true up the axels, and then gave directions to un-assemble them. The features of my crane work exactly as they were shown on the website! I was very excited when all of the parts worked after being built. The outriggers, the large 30" boom, and all of the moving parts were fun to build and fascinating to watch them in action. Some changes I would like to make are: 1. Working headlights 2. Seats that have studs to help hold the Lego figures in place 3. Remote control to operate the rolling of the vehicle and steering Excellent value, a keeper for my collection! My next project will be the Container Stacker and Truck using the parts from this crane and the instructions available online. Thank you Lego Company for designing this splendid mobile crane. My most challenging Lego project to date. I look forward to seeing your new creations.

Most complex Lego kit and also most fun to build

    By Peabody

    from Chicago

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

We have a lot of Lego kits in our family, including several of the modular buildings, the Death Star and Super Star Destroyer. Those are all great kits, but none of them are as complex and make you think like the Mobile Crane Mk II does. I spent about 20 hours or so constructing the model, 2 to 3 hrs of which were spent correcting mistakes. I cannot stress it enough to those of you considering buying this: take the time to read and fully understand each step of the build before actually putting pieces together. Once certain parts are together, you're going to have a lot of difficulty getting into the various components to fix your mistakes. I had a lot of fun building this, and even troubleshooting the errors was fun; it made you look at the build like a mechanic, having to trace back gears and shafts to find out what's going wrong. The biggest issues I had involved using the wrong color beams on one of the outriggers (Lego, you've got to find a better way to distinguish between dark gray and black in your manuals), and the tan gears on the stabilizer jacks themselves were backwards on the right side. The clutch system that allows you to control four separate functions with one lever is ingenious, and the steering function was designed by someone who definitely knows what they're doing. Everything operates as it should. All in all this might be the most enjoyable build of all the Lego products our family has owned, but I would recommend the MkII to those who already have some experience putting together geared assemblies in other Lego models before tackling this behemoth.

i ran into this kit while christmas shopping and decided to buy it cause it looked amazing. very difficult build even had to back track a couple of times to fix stuff. in the future i would strengthen the lifting force of the outriggers, it doesnt have much force to lift it. all in all great job

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

i got this for Christmas, and it was very difficult to build. the model, when finished was AWESOME, but i had not had much experience with Technic sets, and some of the power functions did not work, probably because of some silly mistakes i made while building. i have thought about taking t apart and starting all over again, but i havent been able to bring myself to do so yet :(... still an amazing set, and i would reccomend this to anyone who likes a challenging build.

A long fun build. Problem at the End

      By ecshuler

      from Saint Charles

Comments about LEGO Technic Mobile Crane MK II (42009):

This monster project will keep you occupied for a long time. On two subassemblies I had to hunt down a misplaced gear (out of about 50 gears). I loved doing that. Very rewarding to find the out the location of misplaced gear and fix it. What I didn't like was the string used to raise and lower the two arms of the crane. The instructions were useless. I never did figure out how to run the string. I would venture that only an expert Lego builder could get it to work. A big disappointment after so much work.
