I have two 8 yrs old (boy and girl) They absolutely love this thing,,,,its something they can do that doesnt make a complete mess and they can do it by themselves without assistance..they made the koolaid by themselves crushed the ice and enjoyed,,,for the price of this item you cant beat the enjoyment theyve gotten from it,,,there not easily amused they have lots of more expensive toys that have brought way less enjoyment,,,,A+++ on this simple but fun toy!

This "ice shaver" is a joke. Pro: It uses regular ice cubes, no special cup or bowls that have to be frozen first. Con: The cup to catch the "shavings" in the front is a TINY 2 oz. or so, maybe enough for three bites. Con: There is NO way to get a really good grip on this while trying to turn the hand crank and press down on the paddle that pushes the ice onto the blade. It is very flimsy, takes about a hundred turns (LITERALLY) to shave one cube, comes out so fine that when you add flavoring, it pretty much melts on contact. If you want to occupy children with this, good luck. They will bring it right back to you to ask you to do it.

i got this for my daughter who is 9 and she loved it!! it wasnt that hard becuase she had help from her sister but it was fun and easy . the winding gets tireing but its fun and good :) !

Do not buy! Yes it's Sponge Bob and it's cute but that's just about it. It's gonna take forever before you get a 3oz cup and before you know it, it's all melted out.

Santa brought this to my child for Christmas. We love it. We did find using mini ice cubes are easier to crush. It's not the greatest, gotta have ice crusher in the world, but at [$]and being a kid's toy we have had at least $49.99 worth of fun. It's brought us some fun naming different snow cone flavors and seeing what concoctions we can create. My son is 3 and has no problem turning the crank and I read in other reviews that it kept falling apart. I had this problem for 2 minutes when I hadn't assembled it properly, it's just a matter of getting the parts snapped into place right. It is the one Christmas present that gets regularly played with, so we are very happy with it.

I bought this for my 8 year old son, later I read the reviews. I'll be honest I was nervous due to the bad reviews.

The handle was not at all hard to turn, my son did it too. We really enjoyed making mini sno cones!

TIP: Break up the ice( put in a ziploc bag, and break ice with a hammer) It made the process faster!!

Also, we researched Snow Cone Syrup recipes on line and found a GREAT ONE!!!

I bought this for my 6 year old for Christmas 09, and it was so hard to crank that we didn't/couldn't even fill up one glass with crushed ice!
Save your money, and don't buy this!

It's cute. It's Sponge Bob. That's it! It is just like the Snoopy one you had when you were a kid. Kinda junky... I tried to tell my 7 yr old son, but he had to have it. Went to a local chain store and purchased an electric one the next day for close to the same price. WOW! Just push a button!!
