The lactation consultant in the hospital recommended this product to me because my daughter, who was delivered by C-section, was a "lazy eater." Until my milk came in, we were using the shield in order to run a supplement while she was breast feeding.

Once my milk came in, my daughter began feeding without the shield. I had the typical pain associated with perfecting a latch, but we were getting the hang of it. My husband was feeding her breast milk with a bottle once a day so that I could sleep.

One night, my daughter refused to latch on at her 2 a.m. feeding (of course, this happens at 2 a.m.). Nothing could coax her back to the breast. After I had a complete nervous breakdown about it, I consulted my lactation resources, and saw the shield was a way to deal with nipple confusion. My daughter is headed to day care, so going between breast and bottle is something she's going to be doing. I tried this shield and she went right back to the breast. Hooray!

I have accepted that my daughter will be a "nipple shield baby." I am so glad she's breastfeeding again, and while the shield does take some extra time to put on, clean, etc., I am so greatful I can breastfeed, and I treasure the act of doing it.

It will leak a bit, and keeping it attached when my baby moves a ton is a challenge, but both are things I've learned to work with, and are a function of the product's flexibility.

I was given a nipple shield in the hospital and I thought it was the greatest thing. It does help with latching on very well. However, I wish the hospital staff would have told me it is very very hard to transition your baby to nursing without the guard. My baby wasn't gaining weight very well so I wanted to stop using the guard as I saw a lot of milk left in the guard after nursing (that wasn't going in my baby). I struggled for a week and it hurt very much trying to transition. I was able to but if I had known how hard it would be to transition I would not have used the guard in the first place.

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield - 24MM:

since day one my baby was having problems latching on my breast without hurting me since I had flat nipple it got to the point that I was starting to develop a kind of scab because of the many cuts he was making on them, and me almost crying every feeding and he wasent eating just rigth to the point I started giving him formula since he didn't got full and i continually getting engorged...I saw this in the store and decided to give it a try total change no more pain and happy baby including smile I use it for 2 weeks on every feeding and then started feeding with it and removing it after a few minutes my baby feed with it no latching problem and pain free after a few days I stop using it and was perfectly fine also is a perfect tool for engorge breast since it helps to empty them better and your baby latches better on since the tend to get hard and flat the only con I find is that the cup fiils up with milk an spill that is fix with a liitle towel under his chin

This product saved my breastfeeding experience. Within the the first two days of nursing my son I had bruised and cracked nipples, giving me excruciating pain. Purchased the nipple shield and continued to nurse with only a few times supplementing with formula. I am now able to nurse my son while my nipples heel. It has been two days since purchase I am almost 100% pain free and my son gets the help he needed to properly latch.

I love this shield. It has saved me from giving up on breastfeeding altogether because of pain. After my son was born I tried to breastfeed him, and was wanting to give up after a few days because it was so painful I would be crying, after getting this product I am able to comfortably feed my child without any pain or issues.

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield - 24MM:

My baby was born 3 weeks early and had problems with latching (later on I found out I have oversupply and overactive let down, which further complicated the problem). Attempts at nursing were exhausting for me and my little one and she was certainly getting more impatient with trying to nurse with no success. This shield was exactly what we needed at just the right time. It allowed her to latch on easily, to get a good amount of milk, and it slowed the flow of the milk so she didn't cough/choke from too much milk at one time. I really desperately wanted to breastfeed, and I was losing hope prior to using this product. It made all the difference and has improved my relationship with my baby as well. I wouldn't buy it if you don't have nursing problems, but otherwise try it before giving up! I'd recommend buying an extra for your diaper bag so you don't forget to grab it on your way out- I keep it in a pacifier case so it stays clean.

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield - 24MM:

When I first tried to breast feed, my daughter latched on well right away which was a relief for me. On the downside, every time she latched, she would pinch my nipples. My doc has told me that the tissue under her tongue is short and that may be the problem why she latches the way she does. I thought at first being a first time mom that this was normal but for a whole week, I was suffering. I was like everyone else, thinking of giving up to breast feed. My nipples were so very sore that it had blisters. I couldn't take it anymore. Thank God for the nipple shield! My husband saw this at babies r us and asked me if I wanted it. When I tried it, it has saved my nipples! My nipples are now healed. The instructions say that you can wean the baby off of it once they get the latching down correctly...I'm a bit scared to do that just because of my prior experience. This is the best thing ever.

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield - 24MM:

I used nipple shield to nurse my oldest son for 7 months with no issues. It's very durable- easy to wash with warm water and soap, also easy to sanitize. I am now 4 months into nursing baby boy number 2, and the nipple shields are going strong. I have never heard of it decreasing milk supply so I cannot speak to that review. I was directed to use these by a lactation consultant b/c of a nipple issue. It does add another step to breast feeding, and sure they slip around from time to time of fill up with milk- but it the grand scheme of things they are a life saver.

I had sore nipples from improper latching (all my fault), and was in so much pain from feeding I was ready to give up. I used this product so I could feed my girl while my nipples healed and it has been a live saver. I only wish I had it sooner!

I keep a burp cloth handy after using it since milk does pool in it and will spill out after removed from the nipple. It is thin, but durable so far. It is clear and during the night it fell off my night stand and I freaked out trying to find it. I wish it was colored so you can't lose it.

I was originally given the shield to use since i had an inverted nipple. unfortunately the shield did not help with that instance but since i was only able to completely nurse off one side because of the nipple issue we had to begin to introduce the bottle for supplemental feedings at only a few days old. this lead to confusion for the little one and a refusal to latch on to my breast. after a day of frustration and panic i tried the shield and it worked a miracle! my little un is now 2 weeks old and switches easily back and forth between the bottle and breast.

my baby is 5 weeks old and did not want to feed directly from the breast after I introduced a Bottle during his first week of life. I was pumping and feeding him breast milk from the bottle but I wanted to breastfeed. So, I went online and after doing research I found that many moms were able to breastfeed using the nipple shield and I immediately left my house and bought it. Well, I bought it yesterday and he has been feeding from the breast since yesterday. I could not be more happy!!!!! If it wasn't for this nipple shield, I would have not been able to breastfeed.

Comments about Medela Contact Nipple Shield - 24MM:

This shield is the best invention ever! The lactation consultant gave me one when my little girl was 2 days old.

The consultant stuck her finger into my baby's mouth to test her sucking ability and had a hard time pulling her finger back out! I have smaller nipples and my baby has a shorter tongue, so my nipples were already scabbed over from breast feeding her. I would cry during some feedings from the pain, and my milk hadn't come in yet so I was constantly feeding her.

The shield doesn't take away the pain completely, she still sucks hard and latches hard, but it saves my nipples from being chapped and chewed on. I use it for every feeding. The only slightly frustrating things about the shield is it doesn't stick if her hands hit the shield, and it curls up at the edges and sticks to her face sometimes (but I believe it's from her hard sucking.)

My baby has had NO nipple confusion, however she did come out knowing how to suck and swallow no problem. My nipples are small though, and with her short tongue I think breast feeding would be so frustrating and complicated without it.

I recommend this shield to any woman with small nipples or a big baby that sucks hard when he/she eats. My baby is big, healthy and happy- and breast feeding is only doable if mommy and baby are happy!
