I'm thinking I'm going to have to speak with my little guy's pedi. He was using size 1 until about 2 weeks ago (he's now 3 months old). Now if I go to size 3 for 3+ months it's WAY too fast for him. He'll gag and make a huge mess for it coming out the sides of his mouth. A little bit of milk does come out around his mouth with the 2's and did with the 1's and I can't understand why. Sometime he does very well and there's no mess, but I can't ever go without holding a burp cloth on his chin while feeding...it's a little frustrating.
The bottles leak maybe 1 out of 10 times and it's usually because I'm in a hurry when I make it. I just unscrew it, press down firmly on the ring and replace the top...works every time. I have had just as many (if not more) problems with leaking with all other bottles except Dr. Brown's).
I do absolutely love how easy they are to clean. With that I feel more confident he's getting the best cleaned bottles. Rather than driving myself up a wall with worry that I may miss a part inside the Dr. Brown's.
All in all, he is thriving and so happy and never ever really fussy. So we're still sticking it out.

I love these bottles! These nipples are great for my breastfeed baby. They provide just the right flow. The only time I've had trouble with leaking is when I forget the anti-colic ring. I do wish they had made them so they don't screw on properly without that ring. Oh well, after losing milk a couple times I've learned. Great bottles, great nipples

I've used Avent bottles for all three of my children and if you don't screw them on in a certain way (and I haven't figured out how that is yet), they leak. It's usually when the baby is screaming or when you are wearing something you don't want to get dirty. They last a long time and are easy to clean, but everyone I know that has used them has the same complaint.

When we first began using these bottles and nipples I was nursing and bottle feeding. I did experience the leaking at first and was really frustrated because I love the Avent product line.
I loved that our baby could go from breast to bottle and wasn't getting a ton of air that would upset his tummy and that I didn't have to mess with those drop in bags all the time.
We use the honey colored ones that don't have the extra ring but do have the "anti-colic valve" nipples. The main thing you have to remember when putting the bottle together is to pull completely up on the nipple until you hear it click and then screw it on until you hear the seal form. You will be able to tell when you shake it or tip it if it is going to leak. If you do this and hear the click and the seal you can tell that you have a good seal and nothing will get out the sides.
After we figured this out we have had no problems. We always test it before giving it to him and if it is leaking I just unscrew the bottle and pull up on the nipple a little more in each direction. It may seem like a pain but I think it is worth it for the great quality of the bottle. Our baby had no trouble spitting up or getting air and being fussy after figuring this out...these bottle really are great!

I have only used avent bottles, I switched to these from breast feeding. occasionally one will leak a little bit(however it is the user who can fix the problem and when you shake the bottle you will notice it right away and have time to correct it before it leaks all over) I have no problems with burping and once in awhile spits up a little. I dont know why some people have had some trouble with leaking All the time, perhaps they are putting the nipples in the microwave? (dont do it)

I noticed that some people were commenting on how much the Avent system leaked for them. I have to admit-when I first tried it, the same thing happened to me! I, too, was used to Avent products from years ago, and was unaware of the new colic ring necessary on some bottles. If you use certain bottles without this ring, the entire bottle will end up on you and your baby. I don't mind using the colic ring, but it confusing to me that not ALL the bottles need the ring. I have 3 types of bottles--brownish, clear, and cloudy clear colored. The brown ones do not need the ring, the cloudy looking ones do, but I'm unsure of the clear bottles. It's easy to forget and end up with a mess!

I didn't use these with my first child but have used them with my second due to reflux. I definitely noticed a difference in the amount of air she was taking in-- having less vomitting and burping better. I really didn't have problems with leaking that a lot of people have mentioned. Overall, I will stick with Avent...

My experience with this product is terrible. The leaking is ridiculous. I used Avent products with my first baby 6 years ago and had nothing to complain about, so naturally I reinvested in their product with my second child. This time however, the bottles leak 9 out of ten times I use them! The leak isn't small either- I just got up from feeding my baby and the bottle leaked at least 2 oz imediately under the ring and leaks even faster the more my baby's rate of sucking increases. It's aweful! Any mom knows that by the time your baby is ready to hunker down and nurse, it's not fun to have to pull the bottle away and change your baby out of wet sticky clothes and yourself as well and start over. I think the flaw is the new nipple design- It just doesn't seal well. Anyway after spending a ton of money on avent- I switched to Born Free bottles and love them. No LEAKS with Born Free. They're a little pricey but so are the avent and at least you won't end up in a sticky mess with Born Free! Dont buy the new Avent nipples!

I love Avent. These nipples are perfect for my 10 week old who still needs a slower flow. The next step up was just too much yet.
