this was actually purchased 5 years ago for my oldest, who at three loved it. my second child who is now 4 loves it, though gets frusterated at times... my 3 yo daughter loves it, and can't seem to put it down, she has been known to sleep with it. the long story short, i love this toy, and am so glad we got it. it is definately worth the investment. however, we have had to buy three replacement pens. i would suggest if you are buying this for a gift, send an extra pen... [...] seems to be the only place to find it. they run about $10... it is worth it! thanks

I would say that a child needs to be at least 3 to use this since you must point to the green circle every time you turn the page. If the child cannot grasp that concept, its useless. Also, the books that go with this are hard to find in stores. There are different LeapPad products so be sure to find books for "My first LeapPad" cause they are different

We bought this product for our 2 year old last Christmas. She was not at all fascinated. Perhaps she may have been too young to appreciate it. As she's approaching 3, perhaps she would be able to utilize it better (had it not been for the fact that she mutilated the book). Moral of the story....good product if your child is old enough to grasp the concept behind these type of learning toys.

My Four year old girl loves this leap pad system, she started using it when she was three and had no problem picking it up right away. We did have one Leappad die on us, but it took a lot of abuse and the pad is touch sensitive for the pen. It is easy to use and very educational!! WONDERFUL toy.
