I'm 16 weeks pregnant and was easily able to assemble this cradle on my own in an hour. There are only pictures in the directions, but everything is properly labeled so you can match the correct pieces together. It is a little larger than most cradles I've looked at, but it is beautiful. I measured its assembled size at 36"Hx23"Wx41"L. I do plan on buying a new mattress pad because the one inch pad just doesn't look like it will do the job. I didn't order it at the time of purchase because I wanted to make sure I ordered the right size, which is 34"Lx17"W.

Really, the only reason I gave this product 4 stars vs. 5 stars was because of the locking mechanism. As stated in other reviews, the pin does fall out very easily, which I have remedied with a pretty ribbon tied to the pin which I can then tie to the cradle leg to keep in place. Also, even with the pin in, it still rocks a little. Not enough that I think a baby will notice, and it is certainly still stable. Overall, I would recommend buying it for its overall quality and wonderful price.

I really like the look of this cradle, but have found that the function needs much improvement. My 2 week old has slept in it since we came home from the hospital but I am planning on replacing it with something more stable. Even with the pin in to stop it from rocking the cradle will rock when my baby starts moving around. Not a safe feeling for a newborn who is trying to get a handle on the world.

Comments about DaVinci Futura Cradle - Cherry:

I got this cradle from my grandmother when I was pregnant with my eldest son. I assembled it myself at eight months pregnant, it was actually easy to do. I put this away thinking i'd never use it again and lo and behold i got pregnant with twin boys and out came the cradle, i was a little worried it'd be to small. But in the end i was able to assemble it again (i had lost the instructions this time but it's easy enough to assemble i didn't need them) AND i used it to hold TWO babies and no my twins weren't born premature they were full term quit large boys. If i hadn't lost the screws in my last move i'd be using this cradle again for my fourth son because even after 3 kids it's in perfect order. I will probably either find replacement screws or reorder this model as it is wonderful! Warning it does scratch easily sadly but for how well it works I can handle that.

my husband put it together quickly and it looks nice. it's pretty big--we don't mind that, but if you are looking to save space, this probably isn't for you. as far as the mattress pad goes--i had to buy a different mattress. i'm really a big safety nerd and the mattress didn't fit snug enough (you know the finger test...). also when i tried to put a sheet on the mattress, it kind of curled up. we haven't used it yet, but i can see where the pin might come out easily. i read one of the other reviewers tied a string to it, so the pin wouldn't get lost.
overall, i'm happy with my purchase.

The cradle is beautiful, and the daddy-to-be had an easy time of assembly...all tools included. The wood is very soft: don't tighten the screws too much. The cradle is light-wt. for easily moving from one room to another, etc. Rocking motion is just right so that it will not make the baby "sea-sick." We love it!

Well, maybe I didn't read the description very closely, but I was shocked when this cradle arrived. It was absolutely HUGE. I could fit in it if I wanted to. I was hoping for something small to fit in my bedroom, but I sent this one back to the store. The pack n' play was about the same size and much more stable. No thanks.
