Amazing selection, JUNKY case.

I bought this as a gift for my son's seventh birthday. When it arrived, I had to open it and put every marker and crayon into its place, they were all over the place. I had a hard time getting every piece in, and I was worried my son would be frustrated and in no time I would have 200 pieces scattered throughout the house. Had I written my review at that point, things would not have looked too good for this product.

Two weeks later, here's what I have to say.

First, when he opened the box, his eyes nearly popped out of his head. He was SO excited by the selections. He immediately got to work creating his next masterpiece. There are enough markers and crayons that when his sisters asked to share, he unhesitatingly said yes.

My 5 year old has trouble getting the markers back in, but my son and 9 year old have no trouble (except for the oil pastels, they ask me to do it for them.) It is great that every piece has a place. After losing one of the markers, my son is very careful to put everything away, my worry about scattered markers has so far proved groundless.

His other birthday presents sit neglected in his room. He hurries to get ready for school so he has extra time to color, and his homework gets done in a flash so he has time to color some more. We have had other marker and crayon sets, but nothing has generated this level of excitement.

My sons only complaint is that he always has to do his coloring on the floor. The case is too awkward and heavy for him to lift up onto the table.

I returned the first case because it was received with a cracked handle - when we opened it to look at the contents, the hinge also fell off. Returned and ordered a replacement and after two days one side of the handle came apart. Other than that, my son does like what's inside the case.

My 5 year old daughter wanted this as one of her "top 3" wishes for Christmas. She was beyond excited to get it, and she vowed to keep every item in the right spot. So far, she's been very maticulous about it. Every kid who comes to the house, including children up to age 9, gasp with excitement/drool when she opens it. It has a lot ot offer, and it just looks cool when it is opened up.

I did not realize just how big and nice this set is! My son loves this set! The oil pastels are like a thick crayon not a tube of paint, so they are not messy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the interior case could be cracked if pressed on too hard.

Excellent quality! Perfect upon opening. I bought one for each of my boys with a sketch pad. They were thrilled to open their own art kits and love the choices. Everything was locked in place, unlike the other reviewer. Maybe they didn't have a piece of carboard which was packed inside each of mine? The only reason forI gave 4 stars was that nicer scissors should have been included. Not a big deal though! Would buy again!
