This is such an awesome potty chair!!! I am surprised at some of the lower ratings it got! Let me address this: The #1 reason I love this potty chair is because it's the only potty chair I've found (and I've researched all the popular different ones) that is the easiest to clean, yet still has the nice soft cushiony comfortable seat and a tight-closing lid to it. (Someone complained that it didn't have a back to it, yet the only one I've seen that has a back - the baby bjorn - is actually pretty small and doesn't have the comfortable seat on it, so you have to give and take from what's out there on the market. And then even if you did get that one with a back, if you have a back you're not going to have a lid that closes, like this one does. (My daughter just sits on it (not to mention just look at the natural research India has given to us in yoga/squatting to use the bathroom, that kind of thing - if you stop and think about it, your kids don't lean back into a "back" anyway.)) But anyway, so this one doesn't have a back - it has a lid that closes, which serves 2 great purposes (and if your potty chair has a back it would then omit these other 2 functions) which are: 1) this potty is the best portable potty chair for the car when you're out and about! - just put a bag inside for a liner and easy to toss, but if you're somewhere where you can't access a trash can immediately, you then have a lid that you can close to keep it further contained (and the lid on this chair is pretty solid fitting and works great) and 2) the lid also doubles as a stepstool which works great for my daughter to close by herself, step on and wash her hands; and which is also listed on the box as a third purpose of this chair (the other 2 being a potty chair and a seat-on-the-toilet transitioner).

Other reasons I love it are that it is simple&easy to use (doesn't have a lot of other features like music, lights, places to hold toilet paper (which you're really going to be wiping them anyway until they can learn to wipe themselves properly and by that point you've probably already put them on the toilet-seat-transitioner so you don't need it on the potty chair anyway), etc. So it's just a simple, pleasantly designed, unintimidating potty chair. Also, the comfortable seat (and the potty guard) are a big plus!

Also, last but not least, there is yet another huge reason why I love this chair: It is VERY easy to clean. You just lift up the seat and the whole bucket part lifts right out. We got another potty chair that was more expensive, just to try it out (the summer infant potty training system) and we're taking it back and replacing it with yet another one of these (which will be our third of this kind - one for each of our bathrooms and one for the car). The summer infant one is poorly designed in that under the lid, the bucket tapers to an angle in front, leaving wide open spaces on each side so that when your child goes potty, the urine goes right under the lid and when you take out the bucket to empty it, you also have to wipe up the urine inside of the potty chair that has not went into the bucket but has went into the potty chair through those 2 wide open spaces as well. (Not too bright.) So for many reasons, I love this chair! Oh, and I forgot to mention that this is next to the cheapest priced chair (the baby bjorn) around!! :)

Cute chair, but not worth the money. I bought this chair to potty train my three year-old boy/girl twins at the end of 2009. When I made my purchase, the potties were available in pink and blue, and cost somewhere around $19 each. I bought two (for close to $40), in hopes that they'd be potty training at the same time and that the task itself would be easier if there were always two available potties. First off, these seats are fairly large and not easily stowed. They take up a lot of space. But in spite of the fact that our tiny bathroom was made even smaller, my kids grew to love them and the color difference made potty training a little more fun, since they knew what potty belonged to whom. Although the plastic bowl-part of this chair cleans beautifully with little more than warm water and dish soap, do not be fooled (like I was) about the cushy seat. Although it may be comfy, it certainly didn't have any other pros. Small accidents and regular cleanings with anything from water, to Clorox wipes, to hard-core toilet cleaning products can never rid the chair of the smell. The cushy seats retain fluids and quickly begins to smell badly. And I mean BAD! Squeeze the seat out all you like, but it never TRULY dries out. I even tried to dry our cushions out by standing them against the heat register, in our bathroom. But I had no luck! And the smell.... GROSS!!! After awhile, I didn't even want my little kid's bottom to touch those stinky cushions. By the way: repeated use of Clorox wipes or hard toilet cleaning products will only speed up the seat's deterioration. The color coating of the cushy seat begins to sort of "bubble". It took a few months to fully potty train my kids... so these chairs were around for a long time. And after continued cleaning, they did eventually develop small tears in the cushy seats... watch out for those little tears. Because our seats never dried out, black mold eventually grew inside those pesky little tears. (Similar to rubber ducks that never get squeezed out.) We ended up throwing our potty seats away because of the odor and that mold in the cushions. So much for getting any future use out of these seats for my younger kids. What a waste of money and what a waste of landfill space. In a down economy when we're all supposed to be spending less $$$ and become tree-huggers, I am SO disappointed to have had to throw these chairs in the garbage. I regret buying a luxury item, rather than a practical one. And I'm sad that my $40 was wasted. When the time comes to potty-train my younger kids, I'll probably just use the regular toilet. Forget about gimicky stickers and flushing sounds and comfy seats.... The kids have to learn what the real toilet is like at some point. And that's the way my mom taught me. Sure it may not have been cute, colorful and comfy when I was potty-trained... But at least my mom can say that she never flushed her money down the toilet. And that's more than I can say.

Comments about Safety 1st Comfy Cushy 3-in-1 Potty:

This seat is really small so if you are waiting or have a larger kid it's going to be too small. It would be best for potty training kids around 18 months. However, if your kid is petite it's golden. The foam seat cushion is kind of easily beat up, but for the price it's pretty reasonable.
The step stool function of this potty has been the best of any that we've tried too

This potty did not work for us. The "shield" doesn't shield at all. Basically useless. I'm pregnant and wanted a potty that my son can get on and off of my himself to limit all the lifting I have to do. But it's too tall for him. I still have to pick him up and put him on it : /

Comments about Safety 1st Comfy Cushy 3-in-1 Potty:

I got this potty long before it was time to potty train. When it finally came time my son was so happy to use it. But we soon found out that it wasn't a great potty. I have a fairly petit child and when I would sit him on it we would always have to push his privates in it because it didn't fit. It's like the whole is too small for their butts. And being he's a boy if he is not leaning over just right when he pees it comes out from underneath the cushion and drips on the floor. You have to clean the seat and bucket out each time...like clean it not just dump...cause it is covered in pee. this because and every time potty thing and got aggravating. And last the bucket it was too big and bulky to have to dump the pee and poop out of. It slashes and is messy. I wouldn't recommend this for boys. it would work much better for girls who pees down and not out. So i went out and bought the arm & hammer munchkin one. LOVE IT and no mess and a little bucket to dump and no more peeing on the floor. he can actually get on it himself without my help.

The opening is way to small. The cover keeps closing and falling on his back. He was so uncomfortable, he won't go near it, so now it set potty training back for another few weeks! Now it's just a stool.

THIS WAS THE WORST PURCHASE EVER. WORST DESIGN OUT THERE. THE CUSHIONY SEAT BECOMES SOAKED AND DISGUSTING WITH URINE. NO GREAT WAY TO CLEAN IT. YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY RING IT OUT. IT WOULD DEFINITELY NOT BE SOMETHING YOU SHOULD BUY USED. AFTER TRAINING ONE CHILD WITH THIS, IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE TRASH. WILL FIND SOMETHING WORTHY OF MY MONEY THIS TIME. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS PRODUCT.

I was initially attracted to this potty because of the comfy seat and closeable lid. Unfortunately, as other reviewers have noted, the seat appears to be rubberized, but it absorbs urine/moisture, and the STINK builds. We had to throw it out. Then the lid. Love that it can be closed and used as a stool. However, when the lid is open for pottying, if the potty is against a wall, the kids will scratch their backs on the rough lid parts. The chair has to be pulled out away from the wall so the lid can fall all the way back. That makes it take up a lot more space. My son is about to start training, so we will be looking for a different product.

I purchased this potty a few years ago and I love it! My son started training when he was about 2.5 years old. He loved sitting on the soft seat because it was comfortable. He did not have a problem with urinating outside of the pot...everything stayed inside and he loved closing the lid when he was finished doing his business. I also used the seat for him to stand on and brush his wash his hands and brush his teeth...so it is like a 2 in 1, which saved on a lot of space. I would recommend this to any mother!

This potty was fine for my girl who trained close to 3 years old. My son however does not fit well with it. He is average size at 2 1/2 years but his male part has to be practically squished to fit into the splash guard on the cushion so he doesn't pee straight out. I saw Baby Bjorn potty had great ratings but some don't recommend it for over 18 months. Not sure what to try with now! Also the cushion is a little stained and when it's washed, it does not seem to dry out. You get what you pay for I guess.

Its comfy, it looks great, keeps my boy's pee flow in the potty and he loves it. However its horrible for hygiene as the pad absorbs urine and it will never dry out nor can you remove the odor. Washing with soap or vinegar doesn't help, chemicals used will irritate your child's skin if used to wash the pad. So please look for a different potty. We are now investing into the Sesame Elmo adventure potty. Will review on that one once we use it.
