It's good and solid, attractive, and functional. You have to learn how to LIFT the gate to open it, but once you get it, it's really easy. we get lots of compliments on these gates - we have 3 plus extensions. Read the directions though - never put more than 2 extensions on any one side of the gate. It makes it unstable. That is the only downfall - not great for large spans.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
