Non-stop Fun for my Little Boy

My son received this toy at Christmas (at 8 months old) and he has played with it every day since, many times a day. It's one of the few toys that stays in our living room. He quickly figured out how to fish the balls out of the helicopter and within a couple of weeks figured out how to drop them in the top by himself, and now he has started to push the various buttons to make different sounds/music/etc. And, the cutest sight ever is seeing him pull the toy behind him with the yellow string as he crawls. Now, he does take the balls and plays with them independent and separate from the helicopter, but that doesn't mean that he's lost interest in the helicopter because he always comes back to it. Very fun for my little man!
The only con is that the length of the string makes me nervous about it wrapping around his neck. So, I simply do not let him play with this unsupervised.

I have commitment issues - yes, even with buying toys! So, we always read reviews or look to other parents for toy-advice. When we read that this won a 2008 Best Toy award from Parenting Magazine, we immediately added it to our holiday shopping list.

What a joke! I'm upset with myself for not reading more online reviews before we bought it - seems as though most other parents are as disappointed as we were. My two primary gripes are:

1) The sounds/noises are SO annoying. Even our son pushes it away when it's on! We have plenty of noisy toys that I have no problem with - this one is awful!
2) Boring. Seems cute and fun, but just isn't. With his best toys, he has an attention span of 20min or more.. this one, not even 30 sec. He takes the balls out and puts them in his other toys that take balls!

I don't think the quality is poor, or it's unsafe or anything... but it's just a let-down. I still can't believe it won an award. I can't trust that magazine anymore. If I hadn't destroyed the packaging just to get the toy out, this would have been returned.

    The best toy ever! We found one in a thrift store when my son was probably 3 month old and for almost a year it's his favourite one! Even my husband learned songs, so child won't love toy more than daddy=)))) Those people, who didn't like it because of string, are probably too stupid to cut it off or make it shorter, as we did.
    Prefare this brand of toys now, jusyt orderded scooter and thinking about one more helicopter!

      i got it for my son when he was about 6 months old. It is not his favorite toy but he plays with it a lot. I did cut te string bc he used to put it in his mouth and keept gaging on it and I got scared that he might choke.It is a good toy but CUT THE STRING I do not think it is safe with it.

        question: how do I get replacement balls? He has had this toy for over a year ... almost 2yrs old now. He has played and played with it!! We have misplace one of the balls. We need more balls.

          I got it for my 6 months old son few weeks ago it's not his favorite toy but he plays with it a lot. It makes a lot of sounds and noises very cute and holds up very well he trows it from his high chair a lot and it never broke. Great quility. It is well worth the money

            My son received this for Christmas in 2010. It still works great, and he still plays with it. He plays with it on his own, and with others (when he feels like sharing). Other then the occasional mass search for the balls that are sure to get lost, it's a good toy. Teaching colors and catchy songs. One of the lest annoying toys he has, but I recommend it being a stay at home toy due to the chance of losing a ball.

            The toy itself is fine, and my little boy finds the music and balls entertaining and fun. He likes pushing the buttons and sticking the balls in. However, the pull cord is entirely too long and can cause a choking hazard. My little boy wrapped the cord around his neck, and luckily we were right there to get it off of him but it seems extremely dangerous. We have cut off the rope and are still allowing him to play with it.

            My 18 mo. grandson wrapped the string of this toy around his neck and his twin brother pulled on it. This toy is a dangerous strangulation hazzard. DO NOT GIVE THIS TOY TO CHILDREN WITH THE PULL STRING ATTACHED. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AS A SAFETY HAZZARD BEFORE SOME CHILD DIES!

                we purchased this item for my (then) 10 month old, he really loved the sounds and the balls it came w/, it was his favorite toy (till our roommates kids stole it and broke it) however, the balls were constantly getting lost; I really think they should have replacement balls to purchase b/c right away the balls roll around all over and get lost under furniture, bed, etc.

                  My Mom had this at her home and my son LOVED it so she gave it to him for Christmas. It was great for about 4 months and then it started going down hill with buttons getting stuck in the middle of songs, etc. Now, it just plays the helicopter noise again and again. It is an incredible waste of money and now is just sitting there. Not the best quality.

                    My daughter really enjoys playing with this helicopter. She is 17 months and has been playing with it daily since she was 13 months old. At first she had trouble pushing the balls through the top. But, she eventually learned to put some strength behind her push and not be so dainty. I do not find the sounds to be annoying, but I am glad they included an off button.
