The adhesive that came with all three I bought were all dry rotted and didn't stick at all. In fact, when you tried to pull off the backing covering the adhesive, it pulled apart the entire adhesive strip. Also, the plastic itself needs more than just the two places where the cord can come out (one on each opposite end) because you wind up with a cord that is either still too loose or too tight to plug into the outlet with it making you wind the cord (or unwind it as the case may be) to be able to slide it through the nearest slot. All that being said, it does, in fact shorten the cords. Hence, the three stars in spite of the useless adhesive that was dry rotted and the toughness of getting the cord wound the perfect length to where it fits perfectly through the exit slots on opposite ends of the contraption.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very easy to "install" on electrical cords. Does a good job of shortening the cord and making it more difficult for my mobile infant to grab at it.

really wasn't able to use it for the lamp cord I had purchased it for due to the thickness of the cord. The cord in not extremely thick. just make it will work with whatever you intend to use it for.

Every parent knows how important it is to keep the wires away from little teethers and stumbling walkers... these work very well! We caught our little one playing with a cord, made this purchace and well.. out of sight out of mind. He doesnt even know its there anymore.
