I have never tried to use this nipple with cereal (nor needed to), but it is absolutely hands-down the best when it comes to feeding my girls their milk, and has been since they were able to use the medium flow nipples (we never used fast flow--it was too slow compared to Y-cut). Playtex really shouldn't bother marketing it as a cereal nipple, frankly. But it is amazing as a regular nipple! I have twins, and before they could hold bottles themselves, it was one parent holding 2 bottles. With regular nipples, the second a bottle slips or is tipped, milk gets everywhere. This nipple reseals the second it's no longer being sucked on, so you can literally hold a 10-oz bottle of milk upside down with no leaking. "10 ounces?" you say. "What--are you overfeeding your babies??" My twins are now 2 years old and still drink milk from a bottle with a Y-cut nipple because it is SO much faster than a sippy cup (and a sippy cup still leaks all over the floor a lot easier). There's a sweet spot for the nipple--the Y cut is often too small straight out of the packaging, but now I extend the cut with a knife. When my girls were younger and still taking a while to drink, I just waited until they worked the nipples to a good opening--then we were all happy. As others have said, they do "age" faster than other nipples because the Y continues to extend as the nipple is used, but we continue use them until they're too wide to reseal when held upside-down, and that is actually quite a while, in nipple time. For us, the quick aging trade-off is totally worth it. My girls spend less than 3 minutes drinking from their bottles, so it's almost like using a cup--no time for their teeth or language skills to get impaired by a sippy cup. (We're working on transitioning straight to cups.)

I read some reviews and most seemed bad with putting cereal in the bottle. But I bought it anyway and it worked good for my 6 month old son. I mix breast milk with his cereal.

the slow flow wasn't enough for my baby boy, so I got this medium flow and it satisfied him perfect.

Tried these after dr suggested putting cereal in bottle to help with daughter's excessive spitting up. Even with hardly any cereal in the formula, my daughter couldn't get anything to come out of this nipple. She had no problem getting cereal out with other y-cut nipple brands. Don't waste your money.

I have always used drop-ins for my son because they were the only bottle he could use since he had colic and reflux. They just worked for him. So when I had my little girl I bought the same thing for her. Turned out she had reflux too so we went through tons of bottles and nothing helped. Doc put her on the formula with cereal already in it. I had to buy these nipples because it wouldn't flow in any other ones. I couldn't get it to go through at first, no matter what we did. Then I noticed that if I unscrewed the ring and screwed it back on, after mixing, the formula would flow. It was almost like it had vacuum sealed itself shut. So now every time I use them I just undo the ring and they work perfectly. Thought I might mention that just in case it might help some parents out there before spending extra money on tons of bottles like we did.

I must say, I was surpise to hear the bad experienced reviews. I'm able to put a 1tbsp. of rice cereal on 4oz bottle, and flows well. Maybe more amounts of cereal was add in other viewers bottles that cause it not to flow..? But I do feel for the other moms that it did not work for them. I'm just disappointed that my 3 month old boy does not sleep longer with the cereal in the milk!

I used these for cereal, what they are labeled for, and they clogged right away!! Nothing my baby or I did could make cereal come out of these. I only had 1 tbsp of cereal in a 4 ounce bottle, too. These were not worth the money. Plus, I had to throw out the formula since I had no way to feed it to my baby.

Love, love, love this product for feeding my baby milk. I never used this product to feed my baby cereal from a bottle, so I can't offer an opinion on that use. However, the variable flow nipple is the BEST when feeding my baby milk. It allowed her to determine how fast/slow she wanted to drink. I found that even the slow nipples were too fast for her. So when we switched to the variable nipple, she was able to drink at her own pace, making her less frustrated with feedings.

I bought 3 packs of these nipples because they were supposed to work for rice cereal in the bottle that is what is said on the package and like others the doctor suggested to put cereal in the bottle due to spit up. If they do not work for cereal they should not be labeled to work for cereal. I had better luck with medium nipple. My daughter was so mad by the end of her feeding I it not worth the $5 per package. I also work in child care and I have seen that the multiple flow for the Avent Bottle works the best. I have had many parents that have said that the Avent bottles work better for children with spit up problems and the nipple that have the multiple flow really works.

This doesnt even work. I bought them after my daughters doctor suggested we put cereal in her bottles to reduce her spitting up. instead of having to poke holes in her nipples i tried these.
no matter how little cereal you put in the bottle, she couldnt get ANYTHING out of the nipple. doesnt work at all.
