Product Description

The Huffy Puppy Love 18 inch Girl's Bicycle is a great choice for the animal lover in your family. This bike features a curved steel frame, blue paint and it is decorated with all kinds of adorable doggie graphics! It also comes with front and rear handbrakes, reinforced training wheels, an accessory kit handlebar bag, puppy paws wheels inserts, and sparkling holographic streamers.

Huffy Corporation manufactures mass-market bicycles. It was founded in 1887 when George P. Huffman purchased the Davis Sewing Machine Company and moved the factory to Ohio. Seven years later, in 1894, Huffman adapted the factory to manufacture bicycles. In 1949, Huffy became a common name after inventing training wheels for its Convertible Bike. From then on, Huffy made popular bikes, such as the Radio Bicycle, Dragster, Scout and Sigma.

I bought this bike yesterday for my 5.5 year old daughter. She's 4'1", has no trouble handling it and it's a perfect fit (because there's room to grow). She can even work the handbrakes with no problem. It's a great looking bike, classic brand name and my daughter loves it. May be the best money I've spent in a long time.

Okay, so the bike is cheaply made. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try after my seven year old daughter begged me for it, wanting no other bike that would fit her (the only store I could even find ANY eighteen inch bike was here, so the selection of four total bikes was rather limited). She's easy on her toys, so I am hoping for the best. Out of the few bikes we could choose from, this one had by far the smallest amout of available adjustment for raising the seat. You really only get about three inches of play. So far she's ridden this bike for about six hours all together. The cute pawprints in the wheels kept falling out, I'm hoping the tape I added will help hold them before they break completely. The rims for the tires are definitely crooked, so when she rides you can see a slight wobble. No amount of adjusting would fix this. Good thing it has coaster brakes, because the hand brakes STINK. My most important suggestion - unless you are extremely familiar with bike assembly, pay to have it done at the store. I'm VERY handy being a single mom, I've built large wooden swingsets without instructions, a fence, an above ground pool, you get the hint. I saw that the bikes assembled in the store would need a bit of adjusting, so I decided to tackle it myself - nothing is more important than safety and I wanted to be sure it was done right. I figured, how hard can it be as long as it comes with instructions. Wow, was I wrong. The instructions for this bike were beyond terrible - you get generic instructions that seem to go for all huffy bikes without speeds - so there are countless "if you have this LOOKING part, do this". The pictures looked nothing like the parts - and they were microscopic on top of it. Just terrible. After three hours and only having the training wheels on and the seat, I was beyond frustrated with a very anxious 7 year old begging to take it for a spin. Luckily my father has assembled countless bikes and at that point he took over and was done within another hour (obviously disregarding the instruction manual). The hardest part of the assembly was the hand brake system. The instructions were useless and the bracket framing for the brakes wobbles - if you tighten it too much the brakes won't release, too loose and they fly all over the place. There is NO just right setting. Adjusting this was the most tedious, because if you don't have it JUST RIGHT the bike makes a howling humming sound when the wheels turn because the brake pads on one side rub against the frame slightly. SO annoying. Once you get it adjusted, it seems to work okay, provided you don't accidentally breathe on it making the framing shift, causing the howling noise again. The little metal covers that are on the ends of the brake wires kept falling off, and without that protection the wiring can get caught on clothing and/or really scratch up the skin. I'm about to resort to duct tape on that. With the price of this bike I wasn't expecting perfection, but the quality could definitely be much better. Since it's an eighteen inch bike and the majority of kids will be using it with the training wheels for a limited time until they learn to ride, would it really have been that expensive to add a kickstand? I bought the one made by bell in the store and easily added it to the bike - which was the simplest thing to do during installation besides filling the water bottle. Overall, it serves its purpose, I hope it'll last thru my second child, but I'm not keeping my hopes up for that.

Nice starter bike but not if your child really loves to ride a lot or is tough on it. No kickstand!!! The back tire wears away quickly and is very hard to find a replacement!

The bike is cute but I expect the stickers that make it cute will completely peel off very soon. Back wheel is wobbley and the bag broke off after about 2 days of not very strenuous riding. If she didn't like it so much I would have sent it back.

Bought this bike last year for my granddaughter. Always kept in a shed and out of the weather. Tires actually starting to rot. Called the Maplewood store and a women said to find my reciept and bring in the tires and they would help us out. Got to the store and the manager acted like the conversation did not occur and that it basely was to bad and they were not going to help. This is a horse sh it product and a horrible store. I should of known when I tried to buy the bike they were rude because it was closing and wanted us to come back the next morning. I will never buy from this company again and will tell everyone to go

        No Kickstand

Comments about Huffy 1001208 Huffy 18 inch Bike - Girls - Puppy Love:

Bike seems nice so far, but they didn't include a kickstand. Of all the ways to save a dollar in manufacturing costs. Note to Huffy: Just charge a buck more for the bike and include the stupid kickstand. Now I have to go online and see if I can buy a kickstand somewhere, or maybe I could fabricate on myself.

We purchased this bike for our petite 7 year old ... We tired the 5 bikes in the store out before she made a decision on this one. The brakes were fine in the store.. The seat had plenty of growing room and it was cute...
We returned home with the bike in the box....our daughter went to bed and my husband got to work!
First off the instructions are horrible ! The photos and writing are so small you cant read them without straining your eyes. The seat extension is about 1/2 the length of the one in the store!!! This is one of the main reasons beer bought it because she had a lot of room to extend the seat she as she grows. Very disappointed about that. Then the water bottle says wash this water bottle with soap and water thoroughly before use!!! It's printed on the sticker on the water bottle. The one on display did not have that written on there and it's tacky!!!
The brakes do not touch the rim of the tire to stop the bike. One of them closes on the rim more than the other on both the front snd back wheels.
The huffy emblem is already peeling off of the front of the bike and its not fully assembled yet....
There is a huge scratch on the handle bars and the paw print stickers are coming off too.
I wouldn't buy this bike again. I would rather buy the ugly monster high one!!

The main components of the bike seem fine and it is a good looking bike. [...] After riding it about 5 times, though, the training wheel fell off. We had all of the pieces, so we screwed it back into place. It continued to fall off every time my daughter rode the bike. The screw that holds the training wheel in place is not an oridinary piece that you can buy at your local big box hardware store, so I bought a similar size screw. The training wheel continued to fall off. Also, after using the bike less than 10 times, the cute little bag that is attached to the front of the bike ripped right off. My daughter takes very good care of her toys, so these problems were not because of misuse or overuse. Nothing is made as well as it used to be.

The finished bike that toys r us put together was great. We did order it online and had to return it to the store because the front fork was bent. No problem returning it and then had the store put it together. My daughter loves her bike. I do think it was a bit expensive but my daughter loves blue and puppies so she had to have this bike!

Bought this for our 6 1/2 year old daughter. This is a GREAT learning bike. The directions were the worst part of this bike. If you use some common sense when assembling this bike, the seats, peddles, handlebars, etc. will not be falling off!!! I recommend this bike for early training.

We bought this bike for my 5 yr old daughter about a month ago because like many of you she just loved the puppy design! I was astonished to read some of the review written when I just came back to the website for the model number. My daughter has ridden the bike several times and we have not had any problems with the bike. We did pay to have it put together for us. Hoping we won't encounter the problems many of you have listed. I still like the bike.
