Product Description

The BRITAX ADVOCATE® convertible car seat is designed for children rear facing from 5 to 40 pounds and forward facing from 20 to 65 pounds. The ADVOCATE achieves revolutionary head safety through the use of BRITAX SafeCell Technology® in the base and HUGS™ chest pads, integrated steel bars, and energy absorbing Versa-Tether® that work together to minimize head excursion and reduce the risk of head injury during a frontal impact. The ADVOCATE also incorporates energy-managing Side Impact Cushion Technology, reducing incoming side impact crash energy by 45 percent by diverting crash forces away from the child. It is equipped with BRITAX True Side Impact Protection® and a Click & Safe® Snug Harness Indicator to aid in proper harness snugness. Additional features include a no-rethread and quick-adjust five-point harness, multiple buckle and recline adjustments, and an easy-remove cover that also allows access to belt paths from the front of the seat. A body pillow is provided for extra comfort and infant positioning.

Britax Advocate G4 Convertible Car Seat Features:

  • Base with SafeCell Technology®
  • Energy Absorbing Versa-Tether®
  • True Side Impact Protection®

Britax has been a pioneer in child passenger safety for more than 35 years, with a legacy of leadership in developing innovations that enhance the safety of child car seats and improve their ease of installation and use. Features

  • Base with SafeCell Technology® features SafeCells designed to compress in a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat which normally propels the child toward the front seat
  • Integrated Steel Bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash
  • Energy Absorbing Versa-Tether® features a staged-release tether webbing to slow the forward movement, reducing the crash forces reaching the child, and a two-point attachment to minimize forward rotation while anchoring the top of the child seat
  • True Side Impact Protection® offers a head restraint creating extra layer of energy-absorbing EPP foam, keeping the head, neck and spine "in true"/aligned and deep side walls lined with EPP foam distribute crash forces and contain the head, neck & body

In my almost 5 years of parenting I’ve changed thousands of diapers, fed a comparable number of bottles, lost incalculable hours of much-needed sleep and had myriad Pixar movies’ images permanently burned into my corneas after perpetual viewings. Parenting the two Junior Dudes has introduced me to activities that not only had I never done before, but many that I didn’t even know existed before I became a father. Siphoning the snot out of their congested little noses, anyone? There is one invaluable parenting exercise, however, which I had intentionally avoided doing since even before Day 1: I never learned how to install a car seat. Though I’ve never acknowledged it before now, I admit that not knowing how to do something as vital as this has been a source of guilt. So you’re probably wondering why an extremely hands-on father like me never learned how to install a car seat and the answer is simple. Insecurity. Not wanting to fail as a father has been an ongoing fear since long before I actually became one and I don’t think that’s abnormal. I frequently tell my boys, and myself, that my primary objectives are making sure they are always fed, healthy & safe. When we went to get our first infant seat installed a week before the Little Dude was born, it was my 37-weeks-pregnant wife maneuvering in the back seat of her Prius watching the Installation Guru finesse the intimidating harnesses and straps into place. I was afraid that when called upon to install a car seat in a real setting, I would do it wrong and my son would somehow get hurt as a result. So I strongly encouraged my wife, who is much better with attention to detail than I’ll ever be, to learn the process. And for 4 1/2 years, she’s moved the seats in and out of our cars like a professional. So I decided to finally do something about it. When the Britax people asked if we wanted to test out their Advocate "UltimateComfort Series" car seat*, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally learn this skill I desperately wanted but had long avoided. Since we’ve used Britax car seats for years, and I felt confident that they’ve been keeping my boys safe, this was my golden opportunity to finally practice what I preach. I opened the box and read the instruction booklet cover to cover. I felt comforted knowing Britax’s patented HUGS Chest Pads would be hugging the Littler Dude safely in his seat, since I can’t do it myself while driving. The technology Britax created to minimize the force a child encounters in the unexpected event of an accident is vital and the seat’s Integrated Steel Bars lock its connection to the car, reducing forward movement during a crash. There are countless features Britax includes to make sure that kids stay safe in the (Heaven Forbid) event of an accident. Those are the nightmares no parent wants to think about, but I feel better knowing Britax is looking out for my kids like they are their own. Since both of my boys are near the top of their respective growth charts, it’s reassuring to know that the 19-month-old Littler Dude can stay in this Advocate until he’s 65 pounds (and 49 tall), which should be at least another year (hopefully 4). When the moment of truth finally happened, when it was time to personally ensure my son’s day-to-day safety, I brought the owner’s manual and one more essential asset out to the driveway to help me install my first car seat: my wife. I expected a barrage of obstacles and challenges, but the truth is the actual installation took less than 10 minutes start to finish. Like a child afraid to try a new food, only to discover it’s delicious, I conquered a critical piece of self-doubt that had plagued me for 4 1/2 years. Knowing how safe and well-built Britax products are, I have no doubt that the Littler Dude will be safe in his new Advocate. Plus, now that I know first-hand how LATCH connectors and the Five-Point Harness work, I feel extra confident that my sons are in good hands…and comfy seats. (Did I mention that it's called the UltimateComfort Series partly because the headrests and seat itself are Memory Foam?) Though I’m still a car seat novice, I can rest assured knowing that the Littler Dude clearly appreciates at least one essential feature of his Advocate: Britax’s True Side Impact Protection, or as he likely views it, a cozy place to rest his head.

This seat was great at first, but it didn't last to it's expiration date. It worked well enough for my first child, but when I tried to use it for my second it stopped tightening enough. There's still over a year left until it reaches the expiration date and I now have to purchase another convertible seat because I can't get the straps tight enough to be safe.

A little complex to install, but really useful

Comments about Britax Advocate G4 Convertible Car Seat - Broadway:

My husband bought this car seat, and after several hours working of installation, we finally made it, though a little bit exhausted, it's really a good staff. But I think the space and the belt of this car seat is a little limited, maybe because my baby is chubby.

      Advocate G3-70

      By johnjohn0421

      from Dallas, TX, United States

Comments about Britax Advocate G4 Convertible Car Seat - Broadway:

We've owned a few different brands and makes of car seats. This was our first convertible seat for our son. It is easy to clean, relatively easy to use and I feel the safety features (the side impact air baffles and internal frame construction) are top notch. If I were to change a few things: - I would reinforce the head padding. After cleaning the cover, I realized that the foam padding had broken at the bend. While I duct taped it back together, I think either a different material or some reinforcement there would prevent the foam from breaking. - this particular model has some special straps that ride under the chest brace and on top of the actual belts. When trying to loosen the belts you must make sure to grip the chest brace first and loosen before uncoupling the brace it self. Otherwise it makes it much more difficult to loosen. We like this product so much we bought an Advocate G4 for our 18 mos daughter.

      Nice Seat

      By DMH1

      from Hollywood, MD, United States

Comments about Britax Advocate G4 Convertible Car Seat - Broadway:

Baby seems quite comfortable and secure in this seat. Fairly easy to install. Beware this seat is HUGE. Must slide passenger seat forward in order to install in the backseat of a Chevrolet Tahoe. Can't imagine how it would fit in a normal sized car.

      Excellent seat

      By MacGyver

      from 28411

Comments about Britax Advocate G4 Convertible Car Seat - Broadway:

This seems like an excellent seat. I use the word "seems" because I have never had to put it to the test for which it was built, and hope I never have to. However, based on it's solid construction, and ability to install using either a standard seat belt or the click safe method, this thing feels solid, and I feel like my child will be well protected should the worst happen. I should also say that this is my second Britax Advocate, only because I got tired of switching the car seat from my Wife's car to mine and back again, depending on which vehicle we are using. I'm so happy with the first one that it was a no-brainer deciding what make/model to pick for the second seat. One thing I wish Britax would provide (and our local fire department does) is stickers that you can stick to the side of the seat (or a placard you can write on) for first responders (in case my Wife or I are unable to respond to emergency crews) that list vital info about my child. Or at the very least Name, allergies, medications, blood type, etc. Stuff nobody wants to think about, but could help save a life between the time of an accident and contact with next of kin close enough to really know this vital information.
