This shield saved my life with my second. I tried breastfeeding with the first and within the first attempt I was cracked, bleeding, etc so I gave up as I had no support system. With #2 I was determined to do it but had the same problem. One of my nurses brought me a shield and it saved my breastfeeding life! I used it for 3 weeks (had to buy new ones obviously as they do not last too long). I had no problem breaking my child from the shield, it was me that was afraid. But after using the shield I guess he either got gentler or I adapted and it ddn't cause pain, blood, etc. anymore. Now I'm on to #3 and have just purchased a few of these just in case as it's been a few years.

They do leak but that leaking is a small price to pay. I got to breastfeed my son until he was 12 months.

Some advise, make sure to clean it good after each use. My lack of knowledge cause us to get thrush passed back and forth in week 2.

I was very satisfied with this product... Baby girl wouldn't latch and if it werent for this product i would probably either be pumping 24/7 or i would of turned to formula feeding... Its just messy to use but for myself this is a necessity for me to be able to feed

This was given to me in the NICU by the lactaction specialist because my baby was too small to latch on. It worked great to start us breastfeeding.
After a few weeks I had the desire to try and breastfeed without it - I guess by then my baby had gotten big enough to latch on. It took us about 2 weeks of weaning off the breast shield, but we did it. This was all while using bottles to supplement with formula, and pacifiers.

The only thing is it is difficult to use while laying down nursing because it leaks sometimes, but not always. It is easy to clean - just run it through some hot soapy water and rinse.

I would recommend this to a new mom or small baby who is having latch on problems.

I used this shield 6 years ago with my son and 8 weeks ago with my daughter. Long story short...I needed to find a different shield because she wasn't transferring properly. I thought all shields were the same until I found one made by Simplisse (now by Dr. Brown) What a difference in feel, fit, texture and staying in place. I promise you that if you compare them side by side you will be convinced. I also loved the fact it was designed by a team of Lactation Consultants. Plus its cheaper but only available at another big box store (from what I can tell) with the word Buy and Baby in the title....hint hint) You will love it!

After suffering through the first week of breastfeeding my 2nd child, crying to my mom, crying during nursing sessions, my friend recommended a nipple shield. I read all the reviews and told my husband to get one on his way home from work, our don't come home at all! I couldn't stand another night of severe pain and bleeding. I'd seen a lactation constant in the hospital and also with my first child. I put this on praying all the reviews were true, and almost cried in sheer joy! No pain, no struggling, no crying and no screaming, hungry baby. If you are having latch problems or sore/painful nipples, try these before you give up. They saved our breastfeeding from being totally over.

This has been a great tool to help get my 4 lb preemies latched on and building strength to breast feed full time. Getting them to at least try nursing has been a crucial part in milk production as I can't seem to trick my body into producing for the pump alone. Just a few minuets with my babies stimulates enough to really get a good pump afterward. There is also the added benefit of getting to bond with my new little boys with less frustration for them and myself.
This was given to me by a lactation consultant at the hospital.

I love these so much! I don't know how I would've been able to continue breast feeding my newborn without these. I had such a hard time getting him to latch on he couldn't grip my nipple. Every time I tried to feed him there were tears of frustration on both sides. My doctor recommended I try these and now we have no problems. I have 5 of these so I always have a clean one. My only complaint is that they seem dirty even after I wash them but I bought pacifier wipes and that seems to get the job done.

I purchased this shield with my third child. I had become SO sore, I had actually stopped letting down and was completely miserable. This shield added so much protection and comfort during nursing that I started letting down again the first time I used it.

It is extremely durable, I only use it for the first few weeks of each child's life, but it held up fine (almost 6 years) until my 2 year-old chewed it up, LOL.

So I will be purchasing another one before baby #6 gets here. I only wish I had this product with my first, breastfeeding would have gone SO much smoother.

I have been using a Medela nipple shield since my child's birth and he is 11 months old. I had trouble with the latch while nursing since day 1 and started using this in the hospital and have continued using it at home. Despite attempts to wean off of it, my son doesn't latch well without it. I have never had milk supply problems with this product, as many articles caution you of. It's thin and flexible enough that there is plenty of stimulation to keep your supply up. My son continues to latch to it well. The only difficulty he has is that milk pools in the shield and he will occasionally sputter/cough as it comes out when he least expects. It can be messy. He also has developed a biting habit to get the milk from it, which makes it hard to wean off of. I only wish it came with some sort of protective case or something to keep it in. Overall, this product has kept me nursing my baby when I otherwise might not have been able to. I am eternally grateful for that!
