This is the only pump that I have ever tried, but I love it. I am back to work and I am able to pump 12 ounces within 10 minutes (6 from each). And I love that I can pump both breasts at the same time.

I didn't have this exact Medela pump - I had a hospital rental - but I felt it was important to write a review of the Medela products. I bought a Lansinoh pump based on positive reviews and because it was much cheaper. I am a first-time mom, so I really didn't know what to expect but wanted to have all my "gear" ready.

I ended up having a horrible time with breastfeeding and had all sorts of latching problems and a serious issue with milk production. The only way to keep breastfeeding was for me to pump almost constantly. I started with my Lansinoh and right away it was uncomfortable - bordering on painful - but I kept going because I HAD to. I was getting literally a few DRIPS each pumping. After a few frustrating breastfeeding consultations, they suggested my life would be easier if I would buy or rent a Medela instead. I reluctantly rented a Medela from the hospital, took it home, and instantly pumped 2 oz no problem!! I couldn't believe it! Plus the Medela has custom-fitted breast parts, so I was measured and got the one that was the most comfortable for my body - no more discomfort with pumping! It was also quiet where the cheaper one made this aweful loud grinding/ringing sound as it ran. I am so dissappointed a spent the money on the cheaper one without knowing what I needed.

I am so happy that I received this pump as a gift. I began using it when my baby was 3 months old and I returned to work. It works so well that my baby is 9 1/2 months old and my milk supply is still able to keep up with her demand. Additionally, this pump has definitely contributed to meeting my goal of providing my baby with breastmilk for the first 12 months.

The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that after using my pump for 3 months the diaphragm tore and the pump lost pretty much all suction. However, Medela customer service was excellent! They sent a replacement pump over-night. The current over-the-shoulder In Style bag is NOT as pictured though. My original pump (the one that broke) was the one in the picture. I do not care for the design of the replacement pump (apparently the new model) as it does not have the netting inside the pump compartment (which I used to store tubing), the compartments inside the bag are not as convenient (they used to be one big compartment; now they are broken up into 2 smaller ones) and the overall bag is not nearly as stylish as the previous version. However, aside from the astetics of the bag the pump (which is still the same) is excellent.

After renting the Medela Symphony after coming home from the hospital, I decided to stick with the Medela brand and buy this. I really wanted the Freestyle, but until insurance and/or FSA covers breast pumps, well, I couldn't afford it. We should've just bought this from the beginning (renting is expensive). It's great! I do wonder if the backpack had more space (would've been nice to see an open one to compare). I liked the shoulder bag, but after putting in the cooler with bottles, and all the other parts, there's not a lot of room, and it can get heavy.

My sister bought this pump 4 years ago when my niece was born. She then passed it down to me, I lent it to a friend and am now using it again for my second child. It still works like new and is in great condition. Every user has used their own tubes, breast shields, valves, etc. (which are fairly inexpensive to buy and are sold seperately). This product have proven to be worth every penny. I highly recommend.

Great all in one pumpstation. only thing is the nipple seems to suction in when my new born drinks from it. Dont particularly like the bottle and nipple, but love how convenient and easy it is to store the freshly pumped milk.

Reccomended, but get other feeding bottle to avoid colic.

I STARTED TO USE THIS MEDELA WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS I USED A MANUEL MEDELA THAT THE HOSPITAL GAVE ME. TO BE HONEST FOR ME THIS MACHINE WORKED BUT MY EXPECTATION FOR THIS BREAST PUMP WAS HIGHER THEN WHAT IT GAVE ME BECAUSE TO ME IT WAS RUNNING TO SLOW AND I FELT I PUMPED MORE WITH A MANUEL ONE....ALSO THE HOSES YOU CANNOT BUY ANYWHERE ELSE BUT MEDELA.COM IT SELF THAT SUCKED THE ACCESSORIES WHERE LIMITED AT BABIES R US:(

I love this product. I was not going to buy this pump since it is so expensive and I am glad I made a decision to buy it. I absolutely love it. It is quiet and I pumps fast. I been using this pump for 5 months now and I had no problems at all. Once in a while, it makes a little loud noise but that's fine with me. My sister-in-law used Lansonlin (sp??) and that pump sucked. The suckson was so slow and it took her for ever to pump. Really good product.

I just bought the Medela Pump in Style (Shoulder bag) today. I've used it once and I'm already impressed. I just delivered my son on 12/1/09, and I began pumping because he was inconsistently latching on, and I wanted him to have breast milk. I had the Lansinoh Double Electric Breast Pump and was disappointed. I used it for less than a month, and one side lost it's suction. I just don't think it was made for everyday/multiple times a day use. I would pump for 60 minutes and get maybe 4-6ozs because only one side of the pump worked. With the Medela, I pumped for 20 mins and got 7.5ozs, which to date is the most I've pumped in one session. I'm hoping at this point to increase my milk production. I like that the Medela comes with multiple bottles and a cooler. I would definately recommend this to a friend. I should have gotten this from the beginning, but was hesitant to spend the money. Won't make that mistake twice.
