I heard about this great chess set on NBC's "Today" show. I found it elsewhere for about [$], which is about what I would pay for it. For Toys R Us's price of about [$] I would expect at least a more solid board. This set only comes with a vinal chess board. I bought it cheap (as it should be) and used a staple gun to mount the vinal board to a thick wooden plank. I gave it to my college student son for his fraternity and they keep it in the middle of there common area lounge. They love it!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
