These butterflies have been such fun "pets." All 5 of our catepillars turned into butterflies. Ours arrived in the Fall, so I was afraid to release them with the cold temperatures at night. The literature says they will live 2-4 weeks if you keep them in the Butterfly house. Our last one is still alive 11 weeks later. They have been such fun. We fed them oranges, other fruit or sugar water each day.

I bought this thinking that it was a good deal. Being a teacher I usually buy these through teacher magazines and they include a coupon to send off for the caterpillars at no additional cost. The cost is included in the purchase price. This one states that there is a mail in card on the box but does not include the fact that it is at n additional cost in the same place it talks about the mail in card. It is not an unreasonabla amount. I just think that they should add that to the box where people will actually see it. Be aware that there is an additional $6 cost for the butterflies.

I completely agree that it is common sense that you would have to send for the caterpillars when you buy the house. [...] This is an awesome learning experience for the whole family. I have noticed a lot of people complaing that they had to send off for the larvae/food... if you have seen the commercial it clearly says about sending off for the larvae. Not only that use your common sense... how could the larvae survive in a box like that sitting on a shelf for weeks or months?? isnt that just common knowledge... how would they survive?? On to the product it is a very neat product yes it stinks having to wait for the larvae to come but have some patience. Watching them grow and turn into butterflies and then releasing them is such a cool experience.

So far I'm disappointed with this product. I ordered online thinking it would come with everything needed and it is just the net. I had to send an additional check to another company to get the worms and food, the wait time for that is another 2-3 weeks.

We love the the Bugville Treehouse. My son's third grade class did it as a science project. I bought one for home, but have not received the caterpillars yet. It's been about two weeks since we filled out the card and sent the check.
I have recommended to everyone I know with preschool or grade school age kids.

The butterfly tree house itself is fine. We did not receive butterfly larvae with the treehouse. These are to be ordered separately later. There was nothing we could find in the original literature that explained this, so there was some initial disappointment amongst us and our granddaughter that we now have to wait for the larvae to show up. This makes sense, but should have been in the original literature so adults could explain ahead of time to the kids.

This a wonderful experience for all ages. Watching the butterflies imerge from their cacoons is amazing. The item is not expensive and the cost for the butterfly larvae is minimal. Well worth the money!
