This is a very good solution to avoid drilling into wooden bannisters. However, the instructions are slightly misleading. They seem to suggest that you do not need to drill into the wooden blocks that are contained within the plastic housing and make it seem like you only need to pierce the plastic. Not true! The wood blocks are dense and you must drill into them, otherwise it can be dfficult to advance the screws that fix the wood strut to the plastic frame. And, in fact I used a drill bit one size larger than the one recommended in the instructions.

This is an awesome product and a lifesaver for wood bannisters that you don't want to drill holes in. My only complaints are that installation is lengthy and rather complicated (my husband is an engineer, and he thought it was a "pain in the butt"), and you actually need two of these items for a standard baby gate and that isn't clear. We bought one, got it installed and had to go back for another one. The concept is great, though, and we love it now that it is up. Someday when we don't need it anymore, the wood will still be intact. :)

The Kidco Stair Gate installation took a couple of hours to put together. The instructions aren't very helpful, but once you get the concept, it goes together quite nicely. Makes for an easy stair gate installation that doesn't ruin your stair bannister. Well worth the time and money!

This gate kit was just what we needed! I used this with 3 different KidCo gates in our house (for different type areas) and my husband told me all I had to do was find something SECURE that didn't require putting holes in the wall or the wood... this did it! It's great!

We love this product!! I didn't want to drill a hole in our banister and this product was perfect! My husband was able to install pretty easily and quickly. We used this with the KidCo White Safeway® Wall-Mount Safety Gate and Extension Gate.

This product was very sturdy and fairly easy to use. We painted the wood pieces white to go with our woodwork. We were glad to avoid drilling holes into our banisters. If you have an open staircase with no walls, you will need TWO of these kits. Unfortunately, the description doesn't really tell you that bit of information.

The product works as described. The instructions are not the clearest but it's pretty easy to figure out. If your bannister goes to the floor but there is trim at the bottom like most new homes have, you are not able to put the bottom one all the way to the floor like in the picture. You can still use the product. I used two on one bannister to allow me to attach a fence without drilling into the bannister.

I purchased this item because I have wooden banister post on one side at the top of the stairs and I did not want to drill holes into the wooden post. Setting it up was very easy. No problem with getting it level. On one location I purchased a curve gate. The curve gate comes with a wide attachment that goes on both sides, the wall and the banister post. One side I drilled into the wall (I can always puddy and paint the plaster later). The wood that comes with the installation kit was too narrow so I bought a wider piece of wood to screw the gate attachment to. Worked out great, no problem with the attachment or the gate. Don't have to worry about the Matty (1st birthday 2 weeks ago) opening the gate or pushing it from the stairway. My only suggestion to the Kidco company is to have a wider piece of wood. Instead of the 2" x 1" (which really measures 1.5" x 3/4") it should have a 4" x 1". Great invention!
