I looked high & low for a quality inexpensive marble run and this is it. Only marble run I've found that's sturdy, fun & pieces stay together well! Santa presented 62-piece Original Marble Run assembled under the tree for 3 yr old over a year ago & loved it so much we just added the 48-piece to have even more pieces & add "splitters" to our fun. We've accidently stepped & sat on pieces w/out issue; very durable. You DO need a flat surface to build on. We use a humongous book on to the carpet & slide it in corner if we want to continue building later or store pieces in large bin for easy access as this toy gets used a lot. My 4 yr. old can build alone with this, but sometimes I step in to make it a bit more stable or to just add to his creation. Love that he uses his mind & has to figure out how to make a path for the marbles to follow. Sometimes my husband & I hog this toy & making elaborate multiple routes for our son to send the marbles down. Definitely a hit with us!

I found this toy to be almost impossible to put together in the few minutes I had an opportunity to try, however, for my 5 year pre-civil engineering son, it was a snap. He spotted this toy in a toy store in a small town in Wyoming. We took it back to his grandma's house, and he was building all kinds of working creations that allowed he marbles to turn and drop. Only suggestion is to make sure to buy the biggest kit so you can keep on building, or buy 2 sets. If your kid is construction oriented, this is a great developmental toy. Now we have 2 sets in our home, and 1 back at Grandma's house. No broken parts yet, and good for up to 2 kids building if have large kit. My 3 year old girl can't build the structures yet, but loves rolling the marbles down and just looking at the pretty marbles.

This product would not stay together, it was such a waste. I bought it for my grandson. It was very frustrating...definitly would not buy for a child.

My son is really enjoying this toy. He is 4 and can pretty much build the runs by himself. He loves to race anything and this toy allows him to do that. We constantly build two different runs just so we can see which run is faster. The 48 piece set was good for a starter but now that I know he likes it I should have gotten the bigger set. If there is only a little doubt about your kid liking this toy go for the bigger set chances are they will love it.

This marble run is a decent stepping stone, inexpensive enough to buy for a child that you are not sure will be "in to" this type of toy. If you know the child you are buying it for will play with something like this often, splurge on a higher end set. Putting together the run the way it is pictured is very difficult, there are no written instructions for it. The marbles roll through it pretty well. as long as it is on a stable surface. My 3 and 5 year olds are good at putting things together (train tracks, puzzles) but there is no way they could put this together themselves.

This product is well-made. It inspires creativity, and of interest to all the children at my son's birthday party from ages 4-8 years.
