This is an excellent chess set for the money. The board is wood,a nice size, and good quality. The pieces are made of plastic, and a little flimsy, but given the price this is a deal that can't be beat. I know for a fact since I spent some time shopping around.

I bought this set, and gave it to my nephew for Christmas. He found it had too many of one chess piece and too few of another. I exchanged the set for a new set, the last set in the store, only to find the same situation with different pieces! [...]

I purchased this set at my local Toys R' Us and it, at a glance, looked quite nice. When I took it home and played a game against a family member, all was well - until it was time to clean up. The tin and lid wouldn't snap together, leaving me with a non-transportable set of chess/checkers. Seriously, this is junk to say the least. Spend your 10+ dollars elsewhere.

This was a gift for a great-niece. What attracted me was the variety of games it offers. The metal carrying case is perfect for the roaming young chess player.

The youngest child to use it is age 7: Some game pieces may be too small for younger hands.
