I love this travel system even though I'm a first time parent with no other stroller use to compare to. I got the Chicco Cortina for two main reasons: Safety and ease of use. I did do a lot of research before buying this travel system. My decision was solely based on research alone. The car seat is rated #1 on Consumer Reports(well not sure if that has changed since Feb. '08). I do find the car seat to be a bit heavy but I prefer the safety aspect over anything else. I have never used the car seat on a shopping cart...it is just NOT SAFE! Shopping carts are not designed to accommodate car seats! I don't care how many people that I see doing it. A plus for premies or small babies: the car seat has removable padding under tush and behind the head. The extra padding can be taken out when the baby is big enough to use the car seat alone. Not sure why someone stated that the car seat didn't click into the stroller because mine does! FYI, the stroller has to be fully reclined to do so otherwise it won't click in. I do not have to line it up with any clips as suggested in previous rating...I can do it with my eyes closed.

The entire system is very easy to clean which I attribute to the fabric used...even the shoulder pads on the car seat are easy to clean. They may not come off to put in the wash but do come clean easily when lightly scrubbing with a wet cloth. The shoulder pads on the stroller come off and I wish they didn't b/c one of mine went missing!

I don't find the stroller difficult to stow being that I have an SUV. Sure, it's bigger than an umbrella stroller but you know that when you are buying it so I don't know why people complain about this. If you want or need a smaller stroller just get a smaller stroller. You can see them on display in the store to make comparisons with.

I also haven't had any problems with the maneuverability of the stroller...everything works as it's supposed to. I haven't had any denting problems with the wheels and they have been used on the pavement which is bumpy where I live. Replacement wheels are available directly from Chicco for $5 (not sure if that was a quote for a set or individuals as I didn't have to purchase them yet).

The stoller canopy can be moved as a whole piece, front to back, not just a retractable sun shade that covers the top portion of the stroller. For those that say this doesn't provide enough shade, get out your manuals and read them!

The storage basket is roomy and I have had no problems getting to it even when the stroller is fully reclined. Yes, it is a smaller opening but I'm not putting gigantic items in there either. I use it for small toys, a receiving blanket, bug net, a book or magazine, small purse, etc....all of which I have no problem retrieving at anytime. As for storing bulky, over packed diaper bags well get one with a long flexible strap that will fit across the handle bar. I never have to bend down to reach into the storage basket by doing it this way! And no, there is no room for a box of diapers in this basket...that's just silly! It's a stroller not a shopping cart! I amazes me that people want bigger everything but them complain that it's too bulky to store to too heavy to push/carry!

I love that the handle adjusts, the stroller is easy to collapse, the car seat just clicks into the base, the shade canopy has many positions, the basket is roomy, the ride is a smooth one (no it's not like having the inflatable tires if you are using on pavement) and probably more that I'm forgetting.

What I don't like too much is that the shade canopy and storage compartment lid (at top of stroller) make loud clicking noises when opening or closing. So if you have a sleeping baby they can be woken up as I have experienced. I have just learned to work around those faults the best I can.

I also have noticed that the fabric doesn't breath so well and that my son can get a little sweaty but only during really hot weather on strolls outside. With the air on in the car we have had no problems. I don't leave the car seat in the car alone either so that it gets scolding hot during the summer. My son usually falls asleep in the car and when it's time to take him out of the car we take the car seat and all so we don't wake him. If I'm going inside someone's house then I take the car seat in as well. I haven't found myself in a situation where I wanted to take the stroller but not the car seat during the summer months. If it's that hot outside then chances are that the baby shouldn't be outside either...at least that is what our pediatrician recommended. So I don't take the baby out in unpleasure conditions. For those reporting overly sweaty and uncomforatable children, considering the weight limit on the car seat I would say that your child is too young to be out in sauna like weather! But don't quote me...ask your doctor!

I believe that no one will every find the absolute perfect stroller unless they can afford a small fortune...however, even then I don't know if those more expensive strollers are worth the money. I read people complain about those too. Overall, as individuals we all have different likes and dislikes, different needs and wants in a stroller and it just comes down to what flaws (that you consider a flaw) you can live with! The biggest problem that people who complain seem to have is that they are buying a stroller for looks or based on another persons recommendation without doing the reasearch.

The car seat is amazing. I love how sturdy the whole set is. It is definitely a Luxury stroller. For walks around the lake or through the mall it is nice. I don't like how the harness feels loose on the stroller, not a good stroller for rainy areas, very heavy, hard to get in and out of trunk, just in general the biggest of all bulky strollers. IT IS TOO HOT FOR SUMMER! My son sweats like crazy in both the car seat and stroller. I like the cup holders, how it reclines all the way back, how the sun visor adjusts, how the push handle adjusts for taller people, easy to fold with 1 hand, it is easy to steer, and it rides smooth. We don't use it as much as we'd like. I need something I can easily get in and out of the car for fast run-ins to stores. I am getting an expensive umbrella stroller instead. The car seat is all around amazing though.

Comments about Chicco Cortina Travel System Stroller - Discovery:

This is a great travel system!! I got the system as a gift at my baby shower for my daughter who is now almost 3. I used the car seat with her all the way up to 22 lbs. She was always comfortable in the seat and I found the base to be very easy to install/switch to different cars, etc. Even when she became too big to fit the seat, I used the stroller. I honestly can't see how people complain about the size of the stoller as being "too small." My daughter is almost 3 years old, nearly 30 pounds and about 33 1/2 inches tall...she is still fitting in the stroller with a comfortable amount of room. The only reason we don't use the stroller much anymore is that when I had my son 4 months ago, we needed a double stroller for most trips. My son is now in the car seat and he loves it! It is the only place he will sleep for longer than 20 minutes at a time. Overall, the entire system is fantastic.

My only complaint after using the system with 2 kids is that the stroller is a bit heavy.

Comments about Chicco Cortina Travel System Stroller - Discovery:

I read tons of reviews before selecting this travel system and ultimately chose it based on the great reviews. Now that I own it, I do not understand why it has such positive ratings. The car seat is great. The stroller is terrible. It is bulky, heavy, and difficult to unfold (cannot easily be done with one hand like they advertise). My biggest complaint about the stroller, however, is that the "wings" of the reclining seat are so tight that my 9 month old cannot comfortably fit in it. His arms are held tightly in place. I contacted Chicco and they said that the "wings" cannot be adjusted and there is nothing that they are willing to do for me. In fact, they said this: "As your child grows in length, you may no longer have this issue and may continue to use the stroller." I don't understand how he might fit better when he is taller considering his shoulder width will surely also grow. I am so angry that we wasted money on this stroller and now have to buy a second one. I also think Chicco has terrible customer service.

Comments about Chicco Cortina Travel System Stroller - Discovery:

I love this travel system. It is easy to get the baby in and out, easy to clip into the base and get out of the car, and the whole system is very sturdy. We've taken the stroller to a park with a gravel walkway and it did fine. I love the colors, very gender neutral. I would buy this set again! I've babysat with someone who had the Baby Trend travel set and it made me realize how sturdy our set was. That and I didn't like that the Baby Trend's back stroller wheels were wider in the front so I kept running into things since the Chicco's line up with the front wheels lol. Only complaint is that the storage basket is pretty much useless with the infant carrier in it. You can store a few coats smashed down there or small items but that's about it. I wish it had a flexible bottom like the Baby Trend (only thing I was jealous of).

Comments about Chicco Cortina Travel System Stroller - Discovery:

I would have given it a 4,5 stars if I could. I originally got this stroller for my first baby 3,5 years ago.Since then I had another baby and used both the car seat and the stroller with her as well(still using). I cannot even count how many times I used this stroller walking in the park, going to the mall, going through the airports and then amusement parks and such..this stroller is great! I never had any issues with something breaking or not working properly. I saw in some reviews that the baby's head gets hot in the carseat..well, doesn't that happen with every car seat? I love the fact that you can take the seat fabric off completely and just throw it in the washer, i love that the stroller handles rather easily ( the only real difficulty we had was going through the sand when attending a wedding on the beach in Hawaii, but then again this is not an all terrain stroller). Another useful thing is the child tray. I used the stroller as the high chair for meal time numerous times on vacation.
The reason I did not give it 5 stars:
        - it is on the heavy side
        - the basket is a good size but is not accessible if the child is napping and the seat is fully reclined
All in all this is a great stroller and I would recommend it to anyone.

Comments about Chicco Cortina Travel System Stroller - Discovery:

I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOOVE this stroller. I tested out several different strollers at two different Babies R Us stores. And I kept going back to this one. I ended up debating on the Aprica stroller, the Baby Trend Expedition, but it was this one that just seemed so much better. It road like a Baby Trend Expedition, but of course had the build of a regular stroller. I also liked how the back was easy to snap into different positions, either the baby could lay all the way flat, or lean back at 3 additional different levels, or sit up. The Aprica was annoying because I had to snap the back part to fabric and it took forever and killed my back, the expedition didn't really have much of an option for the baby to adjust sitting position, but this stroller has several different levels that were easy to spring into place. The basket is easy to access, the fabric quality far superior to several other strollers, the car seat has it's own padding for the baby, so I don't have to buy anything additional THANK GOD! The front food tray can snap off completely so you can easily clean it. And the back canopy, although it doesn't have a window to look through, the canopy it self snaps forward so you can still see baby, and easily access baby as well. I love this stroller! There really isn't one better! It's perfect, and great quality for it's price! Oh and did I mention I was able to use the Babies R Us 20% coupon on this purchase!!???!!!! Which brought it down to about $250ish! Something to think about! =D PS! Women! I'm 30 weeks pregnant and my husband was at work when I bought this, I got it home and was able to open the box in my drive way, the car seat and car seat holder are packed together, it was easy to pull out and install in car right away. Then the stroller itself, is pretty much assembled all together, other than the tires which popped right now! I assemble this baby on my own without problem! And I have a bad back, and Scoliosis! That's saying something! Super easy to install! I also have a 2005 Chevy Cavalier Coup and this car seat fit perfect with at least 4 to 5 inches left on each side, so my 5 year old and 7 year old were easily able to sit down in their seats without having to squeeze into the car uncomfortably.

First of all, this is the third child using this stroller and car seat. My sister was the previous owner and since her youngest now refuses to sit in a stroller, I became the new owner just in time to welcome my first. Yes, I am a lucky girl... Now I really love how the base of the car seat can be placed in my car and I can just snap it in and out so easily. Plus when I don't have the base, how easily I can still strap in the seat when I'm in another person's car. Yes, the stroller is a bit big and bulky but that is also why it is so durable. I also must note on how the wheels and shocks can handle the gravel and dirt paths around my house without issues. Plus when I strap on my German Shepherd to the handle when I walk the family. It is sturdy enough to not bend or break. Yes, I do need to hold on, etc. etc. Dang dog can pull! :) As for durability, it is the bomb. I washed the cloth on both the stroller and carseat, after all the food and crud... It still looks new. Also all the buckles, straps, hinges, handles are all in perfect condition. My sister is not nice to stuff and this despite her has lasted! Also I've packed a house load of baby stuff while visiting Sea World and it took it well. I can stuff two diaper bags and a big purse in the basket without a hitch. I also very much love how there are wheel brakes on all four wheels. Seriously a plus since I park on a hill and never think I'll be loosing the baby from a runaway stroller. Now the two things I don't like about it are both minor... It needs bigger canopies for the carseat and stroller. It does not provide full sun coverage without the use of a blanket which isn't a big deal. Plus, it would be nice if it had deeper cup/bottle holders. It's good for smooth roads but if it's a bumpy ride, they are going to bounce out. Beyond that... LOVE IT!
