My son who is five has completely outgrown his 12" bike and was ready for a big-boy bike. He is a tall kid for his age. He would have only gotten about a year or two out of the next bike size up (16") and the 20" was too big, besides he still needs training wheels. After searching numerous bike shops and looking online I concluded that an 18" bike would be best and that I was willing to spend around a hundred dollars. I'll wait until he's ready for a 20" bike before spending the bigger bucks. Anyway, I went to the local Toys R Us to look at their display models[...]My son rode the assembled model and loved it. He really likes the cool green color scheme. I like the fact that the bike had dual hand brakes as well as a rear coaster brake (operated by pedaling backward for anyone who may not know). Plus it comes with the training wheels. The bike is also fully adjustable for handlebars (height and tilt), the seat, the dual hand brakes and the training wheels (up or down). The in-store display rode smooth with no bearing problems as mentioned on some of the other Avigo kid's bikes.Since I thought it would be a fun project for me and my son I decided to purchase a boxed bicycle that we could assemble together, plus I figured I would save the ten or fifteen dollar assembly cost. If you are not mechanically inclined by all means spend the money to have the store assemble it. [...] We got the bike home and unpacked it. Everything was nicely packaged and protected, so nothing was damaged or scratched. The assembly instructions were pretty basic and were designed for various different models. Some of the pictures didn't look exactly like the parts I was assembling, but I have assembled many bikes in my youth and as a Dad, so it was not a big deal. The first step in the assembly was to attach the front tire to the forks, a no brainer right? ...wrong... As other people have stated the forks were too narrow and the front tire would not just slide into place. I spent a half hour just trying to pry the forks open wider just to slip the front tire on. What a pain! I was able to finally get it on through the use of a screw driver. Once I set one side in I used the screw driver between the hub of the other side and the fork to push them apart and I finally managed to squeeze it in. What I did was stupid and I don't recommend it. The screw driver could have easily slipped and I could have gotten hurt. It took a lot of force to spread the forks. I could have also damaged the front hub, but was lucky I didn't. Aside from that first step everything else went smoothly. I believe someone mentioned that one or both of the hand brakes were tight or stiff. Keep in mind that they do not come from the factory pre-adjusted. There are several adjustments you can make once the brake shoes are set in the right place to make the brakes either tighter or looser. My son has small hands, so I kept it on the loose side, so that the hand brakes are easier to pull. It was pretty easy to adjust them to get the right resistance. The training wheels could be adjusted parallel to the ground with the back tire or higher, so the rider is forced to try and balance better. I kept ours closer to the same level as the back tire for more stability until my son gets better at riding. The bike is pretty well made. All of the welding at each of the joints was done correctly and the bike is solid, but not too heavy. It is easy for him to pedal and there are no problems with either of the tires being out of round or making any noises. The bike rides pretty smooth. The training wheels are adequate and supportive. The chain guard is cheap plastic, which time will tell how it will hold up. I wish they would have used a metal chain guard. All in all, even though I didn't get the online price at the store, this bicycle is still the best bang for your dollar when compared to the other bicycles in the same size. I have no problem recommending it.

Purchased in April, 2009. While my son loves the bike we've had two problems. The chain guard came with cracks and eventually completely snapped off and the coaster break makes a loud metal on metal grinding sound when used. Sent a warranty claim into manufacturer Kent International when the bike was less than a month old. They refused to honor the warranty. First asked for pictures (would show nothing of the coaster brake problem)and then, when I noted the warranty didn't require pictures they then said they had none of the replacement parts in stock after passing me back and forth to a supervisor. When I noted this was warranty fraud their response was that they have good lawyers. Since my son likes the bike I've fashioned a small replacement metal chain guard, coaster still functioning even though it makes the loud grinding sound. Recommend avoiding anything made by Kent International since they will not back up their product. This is our fourth bike from Toys R Us and we have never had this kind of problem from any of the other bikes we purchased.

Bought it for our grandson's 6th birthday. He loved it. The only thing is that I wish it had a kick stand. We bought one and put it on before we gave it to him. Other than that we our totally satisfied.

1st bike was defective and had to be returned. Fork plates were welded incorrectly and front wheel could not be mounted. 2nd one went together ok and so far so good. Fairly solid and low cost make it good for a beginner.

Comments about Kent International Avigo 18 inch One Eight BMX Bike - Boys:

First impressions of this bike are excellent in my oppinion. All pieces were intact inside the box and padded well as to prevent damage in shipment. Assembly was straight forward and should take roughly about 30 minutes give or take. It says it only requires an adjustable wrench but be aware you will need a phillips head driver and a set of hex keys for the brake levers and various reflectors. Overall construction is pretty good with the excetion of the brake levers (plastic). I do agree with other reviews that its a little heavy for a kid to pick up and it does try to do a little to much seeing as how is has brake levers and a coaster brake which can be a little confusing. But it does a lot of things well but nothing great. Excellent value for the cash. I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a decent value in a youth bike. Should definitely last quite a while as well.

The bike itself was a wonderful purchase for my son for his birthday.
We only have one complaint and that was not the bike itself. It was how it was put together. The individual who put the bike together did not know whay they were doing. They put the brake on but they were in the wrong spot and did not even touch the tire when the handles were pulled. My husband took the bike apart and put it back together.

I bought this bike for my 8 year old who is still learning. I liked it because it is not a cartoon theamed bike that he will grow out of in a year. I seems durable and well made. we got it already assembled so I don't know about that asspect. So far my son has ridden it a few times and it has been great. The only negative comment he made was that the seat was to hard but that might be standard for BMX bikes. My other observation was that the tires looked a little low quality.

I got this as a birthday gift for my grandson who is turning 6. I took him to Toys R Us to have him try out all the bikes and this is the one he loved. I thought at first that it might be too big for him, but he rode it around the bike area with ease. This bike is sturdy and very well made and is the perfect step up the character-type bikes. Color is stylish for a young boy. The rider can choose between hand brakes or foot brakes so is a nice bridge to learn to use hand brakes. Seat is adjustable. It comes with sturdy training wheels. Great transition bike!
