A friend of mine bought a different book for me - and it scared me to death! I was terrified after flipping through the pages of some crazy author telling me what a bad person i am if i don't breast feed, if i request and epidural and so forth. THIS BOOK IS KEEPING ME SANE! the beauty of this book is that they tell you the whole story with no slant and no hidden hippy agenda- and let you decide what is best for you and your baby. they do not hide the ugly truths about what can go wrong - but they discuss such topics gently and always give future references for if you want more information on the scary topics. nothing is sugar coated - but you get the sense that someone is on OUR side, and understands just how hard this is for a new mom who has no idea what to expect. it helped my sister 9 years ago, and it the revised addition is helping me now. i can't say enough good about it.

I have the 2005 version and when I 1st found out I was pregnant it was a great help! But then I read other pregnancy book and found that some of the information is wrong and not too helpful. Doesn't have a lot of the subjects I needed. I would recommend for a 1st time mother but borrow it from someone or even the library...

Comments about Levy Home Entertainment What To Expect When You're Expecting:

My husband got this book for me the day after I found out I was pregnant. Being my first pregnancy, I had no idea what to expect and this book helped so much!! It doesn't sugar coat pregnancy or labor and delivery. It is very informative and a little quirky. If I had a weird symptom or any question, I first turned to the book... then called my doctor. This book is very easy to reference, and like another review says.. there is a section for spouses too. I would recommend this book to anyone, even if you are a parent already because every pregnancy is different.

Comments about Levy Home Entertainment What To Expect When You're Expecting:

I received this book as a gift from my grandma when i was a 11 weeks pregnant and i think it's a great book! It really helped me to understand what was going on as a new mom. I even went back to it with my second pregnancy. I loved the pictures and how it showed you what was normal. It was even helpful that it had a section on understanding miscarriage, since i have had two. I've even recommended this book to my friend's that are having a baby too.

I would recommend this specially to first-time parents like me. It has a month-month and week per week description of what you should expect during those stages.

I shouldn't have attended the childbirth classes because almost all of the topics are in this book, well except the "real" practice of breathing techniques. I rarely call my OB-GYN too because it contains Q&A portion about the common problems u experience during pregnancy.

I can't compare this with other pregnancy books since this is the only book I've read [but I also suggest that you subscribe to other preg-related sites to get aadtl monthly info]. =)

Candy coated and doesn't prepare you for actual labor or child birth. And what about what your least expecting when your expecting? A pregnant woman needs to be informed, and also needs to feel comfortable with her body (if she doesn't already) and know the power of her body. I felt like this book was preparing women for scheduled c-sections, induced birth and/or epidurals. I would recommend reading "A Guide to Childbirth" by Ina May Gaskin, or really anything else other than this book.

It's always recommended, and so the expectations were high. I found that the information week by week in pregnancy was interesting but not helpful. For example, does it really help you to know that your baby is now the size of a tomato?
Medical information and recommendations are avoided, and practical information is replaced with cutsey factoids.
Get this one at the library or used online. There are many other fantastic books out there that are more helpful resources for your money.

I received this book as a gift from my mom when I first found out. While I haven't finished the book yet, I still enjoy it. I'm nearly 8 weeks pregnant, and so far it has had a lot of useful information. I read some of these reviews saying it focuses too heavily on the negatives, but I really don't think that's true. It is vitally important to me as a first time mommie-to-be, to know all the risks associated with the pregnant lifestyle. As for the book itself, it is laid out really well. I am impressed with how informative it is, yet still very easy to undersand, even for people who know nothing of being a mom or medical terminology. The different sections of the book are clearly titles, and you are invited to simply skip over sections you know do not apply to you. For example, I don't smoke, so I can skip all of the sections warning against it during pregnancy. The book has a lot of useful info at the beginning, then there is a chapter for each month of pregnancy that describes how your baby is developing and things you need to know during that month. What my husband (and daddy-to-be) really enjoys is the chapter towards the end that is just for dads. He appreciated the section devoted to things he would need to know.

This book was wonderful. I miscarried my first pregnancy, and anyone who has experienced that wants to hear the negatives not just the positives. Everyone else tries to make it like everything is always gonna be ok, but that's not the trust in every pregnancy. I think it's a great product, and people need the negatives, so when/if something goes wrong you can figure out what it is.
