The Zoo Animals Sounds Puzzle is a great concept with a huge design flaw. The sensors are ridiculously sensitive. As another reviewer also mentioned, even if you match the wrong animal to the cut out or simply place your finger over the sensor, it will make the animal sound. Further, the sensors on our puzzle were so ridiculously sensitive that at night turning lights on and off in the room was enough to set off the animal sounds if all the pieces were not in the puzzle covering the sensors! This is no joke! We got so tired of hearing animal noises every time we turned on or off a light in our daughter's room or the living room. In addition to that, the sounds are LOUD and there is no volume control or off switch. Even an off switch for the sounds would be a huge improvement because then we could turn off the sounds and let our daughter play with it like any other puzzle. As it is, we have put it away (and considered putting in the garbage) because we can't tolerate the sounds going off all the time. We simply hate this puzzle now and will never buy another Melissa and Doug sounds puzzle again.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Our 20 month old daughter received this puzzle as a gift. It is her favorite puzzle, because when you place the pieces in, the animal makes noise. The noises are a little strange, though. Some sound just like they should, but a couple make strange sounds. There is a negative about the sounds: Each piece has a sensor on the back, and in each hole there is a sensor. The idea is when you match them you get the animal sound. However, it's much more sensitive than this. If you match the wrong piece, it will still make the sound of the animal on the board, and even if you just cover it with your finger, it will make the animal's sound. I wish it actually required the correct pieces to be matched up to work. I think this would encourage children more to get things right. Our daughter does love the sounds, though, and even at just a month older, she has no problems matching the right pieces, so the sound thing isn't really an issue anymore. It is fun for her to have a puzzle that helps her work on her animal sounds. Overall, it is a good puzzle - well made, and durable.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
