With a sturdy top, the chest doubles as a bench with a 20-inch seat height, great for story time or doll display. The heavy duty hinge prevent the lid from slamming closed, while front finger slots further reduce the odds of pinched fingers. Made in Thailand, the Lipper international #598 child's toy chest features beech wood construction for durability and strength. For cleaning, Lipper International recommends you wipe the pieces down with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately to avoid water damage on the wood. Use a mild soap on marks and stains. We ordered the lipper toy chest for my daughter's 1st birthday gift to contain all of her toys. I figured that since it cost more than some of the other toy chests that it would be a better quality. Boy was I wrong. First of all the side panels on the chest are a flimsy wood that looks as if it will crack or break quickly. Secondly the side panel on the chest was scratched and it was missing screws. Also the panels on the lid are glued together and the wood glue was smeared across the wood on the lid. When assembled the chest has the no slam hinges but the lid is so flimsy that it would not shut all the way. I'm glad no one tried to sit on the thing because it would have surely broke. I returned the lipper chest immediately and bought the delta venetian chest and it is much better quality and $50 cheaper.
