We received this Thomas train set as a promotional deal from Fisher-Price. It comes un-assembled, which we don't mind because my son and my husband have fun putting it together and building the tracks. Once it's put together (it takes around 10 minutes) we let the Thomas train go through the loop over and over and it never had any problems with it falling off or not working correctly so we were really impressed at how well it was made and designed. Both my 3 year old son and my 8 year old daughter love this and play with it pretty much every day. Great gift idea for train lovers and Thomas lovers. Ours also came with the Thomas DVD 'Tale of the Brave'. My son watches it all the time.

Looks like so much fun, but what a headache! We usually thoroughly enjoy Fisher Price toys. They are built to last and their customer service can not be beat! This toy, however, certainly didn't meet up to our expectations at all.
It looks like so much fun for kids, and our little ones were so excited when it arrived for us to try out from Fisher Price.

They waited ever so patiently as it took us (and by us, I mean myself, my husband, and a neighbor of our's) literally 2.5 hours to construct. The instructions were poorly written and showed just an illustration of the track with parts that had odd labels (such as CL, EC2, ect). Some of the pieces we received weren't even labeled, leaving us to guess which way it should go. Talk about frustrating!! The pieces didn't even fit together properly...the plastic track was quite flimsy and easily unhooked as you tried to hook other pieces together.

When we finally got it all set up, I was actually quite impressed with the size of it. We had three small children ages (2, 3, and 5) all able to play with it together. After we set it up, I realized I made a mistake by doing it on the floor, as it didn't seem sturdy enough to be practically moved without disassembling and then re-assembling again. OY!
The children were quite excited to give Thomas a spin around the track! They were so eager to start him up at the top where the avalanche and "missing" track takes place. We set Thomas up at the top and had to give him a little push to get him going. What fun! The "bridge" or avalanche piece that takes him from one part to the next actually worked brilliantly. Thomas went along all on his own until the first curve and then jumped the track. My poor little boy was so frustrated by this. The track itself started to come undone as the three kids were trying to "fix" the issues with Thomas.
The box states this toy is good for ages 3-6, but honestly, I can't see how those ages could play easily without help with something so unsturdy. An adult would surely need to be nearby to help fix the tracks quite often, in my opinion.

With all that said and done, we packed Thomas away shortly after. We decided it was just too big of a headache for us all and that perhaps we would try again on another day. Until then, Thomas and his avalanche escape set sit in the box in the closet. I am certainly glad we received this product to try for free because from my understanding, it is quite pricey. I would have definitely been upset if I spent that kind of money on this for the quality of the toy.

Fun, but NOT PRACTICAL

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

I am a parent of a 4-year-old boy. I received this toy (with the "Tale of the Brave" Thomas the Train DVD) as a free sample from Fisher Price through BzzAgent. Thank you to both companies!
Here is my evaluation:
Pros:
1.) My son LOVED that the tracks included the "scrap monster" and fossil from the DVD. I think it's a great concept that this particular track set matches its own DVD… really neat!
2.) It is SO COOL to watch Thomas go around and around the track by himself (most of the time… occasionally he gets derailed, but no big deal) knocking over the guard rails, picking up the fossil, setting off the "scrap monster" and riding the swinging rock across the ravine (our favorite part!).
Cons:
1.) It took a LOOOONG time to figure out how to setup the tracks. The instructions were almost worthless. Once we (myself, my husband and 1 other adult) finally figured out the numbers on the bottom of the tracks matched the numbers on the tracks in the instructions, it went a little faster, but some of the pieces weren't numbered on the instructions, so you just had to figure it out on your own.
2.) It is hard to store this toy. It takes up a LOT of space once it is setup, so we couldn't just leave it out (we did about a week…), but once you disassemble it, the large swinging rock does not disassemble (it says so either in the instructions or on the toy itself), so you have a bunch of track pieces, a train, trailer, fossil, etc. and then this large swinging rock thing… just a lot.
3.) My son enjoyed it a lot for about a week, and then wanted to put it away (I was relieved…tired of stepping over it). The problem is, if he ever wants to play with it again, an adult will have to set it all up for him again. Not cool. Especially when it took us over an hour to set it up the first time.
4.) The train does derail occasionally, the tracks come apart occasionally, and the "scrap monster" actually jumps out of his spot (He's supposed to jump up, but not out) and then has to be put back before Thomas comes back around.
All in all, I think this toy was a great idea, just not very practical… mainly because it takes up so much space and then is difficult to store, and then to be played with again, the child can't just put it back together on his own. I suppose some children would figure out the setup, but probably not many in their target age range. So knowing what I know now, I would not buy this toy. I am grateful for having received the freebie, but I have to be honest in saying that it just would not have been worth my money to purchase it (especially for it to just sit in the closet.)

I received this for free to review it and here is my opinion. My kids are all about this right now! They love how it moves and has things going on everywhere. However... when my husband was putting it together, he notice that the instructions was very poor. There was no labelling so we had to match the parts to the picture and put it together... it took almost 1 hour. But now that I see my boy's are all over it, I guess it was worth the work. But the tower is a little off... dose not go back completely so the kids have to go back and put it together so that the train can get on the tower. The train dose fall off on the curves but... I'm sure most toys are like that. And that's why it keep my boy's busy. They love how they need to help the tower go back and forth and love every single thing about it. #GotItFree #ThomasParent #AvalancheOnSoder

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

I received this free from Fisher-Price to review. My 3 year old likes it, but it has some issues.

The directions were a waste of paper. I had to look at the picture on the box to put it together.

It's huge. We don't have the biggest house, so leaving this in the middle of the living room or my son's room is out of the question. It's too much of a pain to put together every time my son wants to play with it.

It only works well on a completely level surface. It had issues on our carpet, when the train resets. The tower would reset, but be slightly off and the train would get stuck. Parts of the track that are supposed to touch the floor don't. They hover a few centimeters above the floor. Once we moved it to our hardwood floor it worked much better, but parts of the track still don't touch the floor.

My 3 year old son loves the Thomas part of the train, but he lost interest in the track after a few rotations. It's hard for him to put Thomas on the track correctly, so he gets easily frustrated with it. He loves playing with the Thomas engine on the floor. He even brings it to bed with him.

Overall I wouldn't suggest it to parents unless they have a lot of dedicated toy space.

Its a great product for children upto ages 3-5. Easy to play with, not so easy to assemble. Once assembled its at least 5 inches long. The Thomas motorized engine is included. It is fun to play with but falls off the track easily. My grandson loved it no matter what and enjoys it everyday. Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set is a great toy and very entertaining for little boys or girls even grandparents. I recommend this toy as a gift

Davian has a lot of fun playing and navigating on the track. It keeps him busy going around and around the track. It's a big track set and I helped my son assemble. I took about 20-25 minutes to assemble. It was well worth it. Davian is 4 years old and enjoys the toy!
