My 3 year old boy love THOMAS & FRIENDS TRACK MASTER AVALANCHE ESCAPE SET . He has a lot of fun watching how the bridge move by itself. He like to close the guardrails because every time Thomas go thru he knock over the guardrails. Well he love everything, how the fossil drop when Thomas go thru the cave and how the Scrap Monster pop out. He plays every day and every time my husband get home they play and play. In general he enjoy his train set. This is his first train set thanks to Fisher Price and bzzagent.com for let us try for free. He loves it and he takes Thomas with him every where.Thomas have power, my son put him in the carpet and runs great.
Now for me and my husband, we were worried that it wont last long. Because he never had one before and he is an enthusiastic toddler. But still there :-). We love that it is not just a regular train set and most important our son loves it. Is entertaining and fun but we have a problem with the bridge it disconnect very easy. I don't know if is because is in a carpet or something else. But we have to push gently because if not Thomas can't get into the bridge. The set comes with adaptors to connect with others TrackMaster sets. My suggestions; It will nice if the bridge connect better and the instruction will be more helpful.I prefer the instructions that are step by step I found them more easy to follow. It will save me some time because it was more easy to look the picture in the box that the image in the instructions paper. The set comes with adaptors to connect with others TrackMaster sets.

Looks like so much fun, but what a headache! We usually thoroughly enjoy Fisher Price toys. They are built to last and their customer service can not be beat! This toy, however, certainly didn't meet up to our expectations at all.
It looks like so much fun for kids, and our little ones were so excited when it arrived for us to try out from Fisher Price.

They waited ever so patiently as it took us (and by us, I mean myself, my husband, and a neighbor of our's) literally 2.5 hours to construct. The instructions were poorly written and showed just an illustration of the track with parts that had odd labels (such as CL, EC2, ect). Some of the pieces we received weren't even labeled, leaving us to guess which way it should go. Talk about frustrating!! The pieces didn't even fit together properly...the plastic track was quite flimsy and easily unhooked as you tried to hook other pieces together.

When we finally got it all set up, I was actually quite impressed with the size of it. We had three small children ages (2, 3, and 5) all able to play with it together. After we set it up, I realized I made a mistake by doing it on the floor, as it didn't seem sturdy enough to be practically moved without disassembling and then re-assembling again. OY!
The children were quite excited to give Thomas a spin around the track! They were so eager to start him up at the top where the avalanche and "missing" track takes place. We set Thomas up at the top and had to give him a little push to get him going. What fun! The "bridge" or avalanche piece that takes him from one part to the next actually worked brilliantly. Thomas went along all on his own until the first curve and then jumped the track. My poor little boy was so frustrated by this. The track itself started to come undone as the three kids were trying to "fix" the issues with Thomas.
The box states this toy is good for ages 3-6, but honestly, I can't see how those ages could play easily without help with something so unsturdy. An adult would surely need to be nearby to help fix the tracks quite often, in my opinion.

With all that said and done, we packed Thomas away shortly after. We decided it was just too big of a headache for us all and that perhaps we would try again on another day. Until then, Thomas and his avalanche escape set sit in the box in the closet. I am certainly glad we received this product to try for free because from my understanding, it is quite pricey. I would have definitely been upset if I spent that kind of money on this for the quality of the toy.

This set is a lot of fun. My son jumped up and down with excitement while my husband assembled it. He plays with it daily, and we have used a track expansion pack to connect the Castle Quest Set and the Sodor Spiral to create a huge train city! This set has several moving features that teach cause and effect. My only disappointment is the moving bridge doesn't always line up correctly with the track when triggered. However my son quickly learned how to correct it on his own. It doesn't slow him down and actually gives him a chance to "Help Thomas". We love Thomas Trackmaster and so will your child!

So we purchased this for my sons third birthday. he has many trackmaster play sets, so we thought this would go great with the rest of them seeing it is a trackmaster set, well seeing they have changed their track type its not all fine and dandy. Yes you get connector pieces but thats not the problem. Its that the new trains go poorley on the old track and the old trains dont run on the new track. My son loves playing with his train sets and well this one was a fail. It was a waste of money and time. and half the time the train dont stay on the track! and thats the train that came with this set. All and all this was a bad purchase

My son loves his Trackmaster and can't seem to get enough of it. The track is long enough to place more than one engine at a time which adds to his imagination action and play time. Additionally, you can incorporate othe Trackmaster sets to create a super track. The support "structures" do tend to slide off or pop off, which will require adult attention from time to time. Definitely recommend this toy if your child is into Trains. Can't go wrong.

This track is pretty easy to put together and it works really well! My son loves it. The problem is the new connectors, though they make the track much more smooth, they are harder to take apart for little hands. They do include 2 connectors to extend to your already owned Track Masters with the old connectors, but they needed to include at least 2 more connectors. The other problem we found is the only train that could climb was the one that came with the track, even with new batteries other trains were unable to make the steep climb. My son still loves it though.

I have taken apart and rebuilt a lot of Thomas sets of various scales without the instructions, but this one always gets me. We've had it for 5 months and my boys adore it, but I think it's massive and obnoxious. With the new track design and steep hills, hardly any of the older trackmaster engines function on this set. My preschoolers would recommend this. I would not.

My wife and I bought this set for our 3 year old grandson who loves Thomas & Friends. While he enjoyed it the first couple of trips around the track, he and I both became disturbed as the train was getting stuck after traveling under the tipping track. My grandson became so upset that he doesn't play with it anymore. I wish the set really lived up to the "continuous play" as advertised.

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

For as much as this thing costs, I would expect a better set of directions on how to put the thing together! The set we got for our son had some of the support towers that wouldn't click in properly no matter what I tried. Other issues that I found are how flimsy the entire setup was. Thomas had an axle bend within the first 24 hours of being played with!! Overall my son loves this thing, and keeps it going CONSTANTLY. To the tune of having had to replace the batteries 7 times, since Christmas.

            Simple, inexpensive fix

            By Charles

            from Washington State

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

We purchased the TrackMaster set for my son's birthday but it is really being played with by our 3 and 5 year old daughters. After putting it together, we were quickly disappointed with the tipping track advertised as "auto-reset enables continuous play." The tipping track would not reset on any surface in our home -- table, hardwood floors, carpeted floors... nada. A simple and inexpensive fix is to elevate the cave side of the mountain by applying two self-adhesive felt pads on the underside of the base, closest to the outer edge. Now the train set is a hit.
