My 3 year old boy love THOMAS & FRIENDS TRACK MASTER AVALANCHE ESCAPE SET . He has a lot of fun watching how the bridge move by itself. He like to close the guardrails because every time Thomas go thru he knock over the guardrails. Well he love everything, how the fossil drop when Thomas go thru the cave and how the Scrap Monster pop out. He plays every day and every time my husband get home they play and play. In general he enjoy his train set. This is his first train set thanks to Fisher Price and bzzagent.com for let us try for free. He loves it and he takes Thomas with him every where.Thomas have power, my son put him in the carpet and runs great.
Now for me and my husband, we were worried that it wont last long. Because he never had one before and he is an enthusiastic toddler. But still there :-). We love that it is not just a regular train set and most important our son loves it. Is entertaining and fun but we have a problem with the bridge it disconnect very easy. I don't know if is because is in a carpet or something else. But we have to push gently because if not Thomas can't get into the bridge. The set comes with adaptors to connect with others TrackMaster sets. My suggestions; It will nice if the bridge connect better and the instruction will be more helpful.I prefer the instructions that are step by step I found them more easy to follow. It will save me some time because it was more easy to look the picture in the box that the image in the instructions paper. The set comes with adaptors to connect with others TrackMaster sets.

Looks like so much fun, but what a headache! We usually thoroughly enjoy Fisher Price toys. They are built to last and their customer service can not be beat! This toy, however, certainly didn't meet up to our expectations at all.
It looks like so much fun for kids, and our little ones were so excited when it arrived for us to try out from Fisher Price.

They waited ever so patiently as it took us (and by us, I mean myself, my husband, and a neighbor of our's) literally 2.5 hours to construct. The instructions were poorly written and showed just an illustration of the track with parts that had odd labels (such as CL, EC2, ect). Some of the pieces we received weren't even labeled, leaving us to guess which way it should go. Talk about frustrating!! The pieces didn't even fit together properly...the plastic track was quite flimsy and easily unhooked as you tried to hook other pieces together.

When we finally got it all set up, I was actually quite impressed with the size of it. We had three small children ages (2, 3, and 5) all able to play with it together. After we set it up, I realized I made a mistake by doing it on the floor, as it didn't seem sturdy enough to be practically moved without disassembling and then re-assembling again. OY!
The children were quite excited to give Thomas a spin around the track! They were so eager to start him up at the top where the avalanche and "missing" track takes place. We set Thomas up at the top and had to give him a little push to get him going. What fun! The "bridge" or avalanche piece that takes him from one part to the next actually worked brilliantly. Thomas went along all on his own until the first curve and then jumped the track. My poor little boy was so frustrated by this. The track itself started to come undone as the three kids were trying to "fix" the issues with Thomas.
The box states this toy is good for ages 3-6, but honestly, I can't see how those ages could play easily without help with something so unsturdy. An adult would surely need to be nearby to help fix the tracks quite often, in my opinion.

With all that said and done, we packed Thomas away shortly after. We decided it was just too big of a headache for us all and that perhaps we would try again on another day. Until then, Thomas and his avalanche escape set sit in the box in the closet. I am certainly glad we received this product to try for free because from my understanding, it is quite pricey. I would have definitely been upset if I spent that kind of money on this for the quality of the toy.

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

So incredibly cheaply made. No matter what we do our where we put it it falls apart. My son gets so frustrated because of this. The redesigned tracked are so flimsy that after a few times of him playing with it they do not stay clasped. I would return it but he likes the idea of it so much I can't. Please don't waste your money

    Waste of Money

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

I purchased this Thomas Avalanche for my Grandson's 4th birthday, since it was the only thing he wanted. Since his birthday on May 27, we have constructed and re-constructed the set endlessly. It is on a large set of cardboard, and still comes apart almost every time Thomas runs on the track. It is an endless source of frustration, and we are ready to throw it away.

This was my son's first train track and he seems to really enjoy it. Sometimes the trains get stuck (especially at the avalanche) or derail but it doesn't seem to bother him. I do wish there was a way to link the track to other pieces where it made a giant track but eventually you have to take the train off and put it back at the very beginning to use the whole track since there is only one place to add on and it goes the opposite direction of "normal play" on this track.

Comments about Fisher-Price 1001124 Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends: Trackmaster Avalanche Escape Set:

Had to constantly fix. It wouldn't go around all the way without falling off the track somewhere. Had it set up on level wood floor. Not worth the money spent. Not good set up instructions. Frustrating because the moving bridge wouldn't line up perfect for it to work so I had to hold it for the train to get on and get to the other side.

My 2 year old got this toy for Christmas - he liked it, but my husband and i HATED it. It was really difficult to put together correctly - had to match the layout to the picture on the box, and struggled with attaching guardrails and such. We never could get it aligned properly, so the "jump" part didn't work right. Every time my son wanted to play with it, mom or dad would have to sit next to the jump to line it back up for the next run. The arms kept falling off the junk monster, too.
About a month after Christmas, my husband replaced it with a simple wooden set that my son can set up and break down on his own, and the Thomas one "disappeared" into the trash....we kept Thomas, but that's it. My son hasn't asked for it, either.
I wouldn't recommend this toy, especially at this price point.
