When I had my son I was SO sleep deprived the first several weeks because even when he did sleep I spent the whole time worrying and checking on him to make sure he was still breathing! My friend loaned me her angelcare movement monitor and at almost 2 years old, I'm still using it! It gives me so much peace of mind!
Definitely test out the sensitivity. It can sometimes pick up movement from other things in or near the room because you don't want that interfering (ie a fan creating vibrations on the floor, washer and dryer that may be near room, etc).

The alarm has falsely gone off, usually due to my son sleeping on the very edge of the bed in a strange position where it could not detect his movement. When that happens I just quietly reposition him. The alarm has never woken him up.

One of the reviews complained about the fact that this product is ran on batteries. This is actually a plus for me! My first home lost power constantly! But I never had to worry about that interfering with this monitor. In two years I think I've only had to change the batteries 3 times...it's not that big of a deal.

I use this in conjunction with my video monitor. I put the angelcare on the floor in a spot where I can view it on my monitor so that I can see the blinking light.

I have been able to use this with the pack n play on trips as well! I use a piece of cardboard as the base and feed the wire underneath. Works great!

Since my son is now in a toddler bed, this actually serves for an additional purpose! If my son gets out of bed at night, the alarm will go off so I don't have to worry about him wandering around the house while I'm asleep. He is aware of the alarm going off if he gets out of bed, so he never gets out, he calls for me in the morning when he wakes up. I suppose when he starts potty training I'll have to stop using the monitor. :(
I recently bought a second one for my newborn and I have successfully set it up with her bassinet.

It was recommended by a friend to put on my registry. I opted for this rather than the sound or video monitor because I live in a small one bedroom with my baby in my room with me and figured I would hear my baby anywhere in the house but would want to know if he stopped breathing or moving in the night. As a new parent, you are going to be constantly checking to see if your little one is breathing anyway and if you follow the guidelines for SIDS you shouldn't have to worry about breathing or suffocation issues. Maybe it would be useful if your baby had existing health issues and you needed to be extra cautious. The cord was a bit awkward and didn't fit my room set up. It is more designed for a crib and I used a "taco chair" and bassinet for the first 4 months which are the most crucial months for concerns about SIDS and when the monitor would be most useful. I recommend you spend the extra money on sound and/or video to monitor your little one instead.

Comments about Angelcare Movement Monitor - AC300:

I love this product! As a first time mom, the angel monitor gives me peace of mind and allows me to sleep at night knowing my baby is okay. We had a few false alarms in the first couple of weeks, perhaps because the baby was so light. But I will gladly get up a couple of extra times to know my baby is still breathing. Haven't had any alarms in 15 weeks now. Highly recommend.

Comments about Angelcare Movement Monitor - AC300:

My husband and I LOVE our AngelCare monitor as it gave us much needed peace of mind that our baby was still breathing at night, especially in the first few months. Its a thin pad-type device that you put under the mattress that monitors baby's breathing (blinks green when baby breathes). An alarm will sound if it detects no breathing, first with just one beep then it will really go off. We've have a 'false alarm' every few days with the monitor but we just turn it off and back on again to make sure its working ok. I would rather have it be too sensitive than not sensitive enough. I have personally recommended this product to other new parents as its just helped us be able to rest at night without checking on her constantly.

Comments about Angelcare Movement Monitor - AC300:

This product is lame... It is only battery operated and can only be so far from the crib as it has to be plugged to part that goes under mattress... So how are you supposed to listen from a separate room? We ended up buying another AngelCare but I definitely would not recommend this one! There is no point to it unless you have an endless supply of batteries and you plan on staying within like four feet of your baby at all times.

Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with this product. After troubleshooting the monitor several times... The monitor would still sound off as if my baby wasn't breathing and she was. I found it wasn't worth the headache and returned it. It just didn't work for me.

Love my angelcare monitor! Finally gave me the peace of mind I needed to move LO into his own room! It's really sensitive, and you know it's working because if you forget to turn it off before taking LO out of the crib it will alert you of the lack of movement. I sleep so much better knowing he's ok!

It gave me the peace of mind right when I finally decided to let my 3 weeks baby sleep in his bedroom and crib. I was exausted! The sensor gave me one false alarm right in the first day, so I re-calibrated it better. After that, I tested it once in a while and it would work every time, but I never had the alarm go off again and my son was always where he was supposed to be. A sound monitor would just keep me waking up all the time and I would never feel safe enough to have a good night of sleep. I had no problems and I passed it on working perfectly, and they also loved it. Plus I see many other ones a lot more expensive. Of course if you have no worries about money, go ahead, but Angelcare worked perfectly for me and other friends.

Love this monitor! Really easy to install and use, and finally gave me the confidence to move baby to his own room at night! The monitor is incredibly sensitive, and even registers his breathing, so I can sleep much more easily at night knowing he's ok and not running into his room all night just to make sure he's ok. The monitor does require you to supply a 13x13 piece of wood, just fyi. We hadn't been aware of that so we had to wait to install it until my husband had time to cut a piece of flat board to size.
