Hello Strider,
We love the balance bike! It's awesome that the concept driving the first bikes, over 200 years ago, have come back for the wee tots. We have two boys, nearly five and nearly three, and both learned their two-wheeled balance on a strider. It was my vision that each kid would learn balance on the strider, and pedaling mechanics on a tricycle then the two would marry at the right time.
Theo (born Jan, 2010) got his Strider for Christmas before he turned two and walked on it for nearly 6 weeks until he had his first glide – "weeeee" he said. He tried pedals (on a 12" bicycle) at 3 yrs. 5 months, and while he could do it, he wasn't comfortable with it just yet. I borrowed the strider concept and removed the crank and pedals from that 12" bike, so that he could have a taller balance bike and so his 2 year younger brother (Owen, born Jan, 2012) could take over the strider (about 18 months). Theo transitioned onto a pedal bike at 4 years without ever experiencing the crutch of training wheels!
Owen (adept at the strider, fully six months ahead of Theo), took to the strider practically instantly!! Just two months ago, having ridden a strider for over a year, Owen was exposed to a pedal bike. At 22 months old, I put him on a 12" pedal bike, walked with him saying, "pedal-pedal-pedal little guy, just like the tricycle" and he took off! He used his handle bar balance checks and rode a pedal bike, without training wheels at under 3 years!! He can also ride Theo's 16" bike, albeit his feet are a good 6-8 inches from touching the ground, but he can RIDE it!
I've included a video compilation (it's 8 min but stick with it ;) of Owen's bike-learning year. Oh, and Owen was born with a critical congenital heart defect requiring open-heart reconstructive surgery at 10 days old. He also has an underlying neurological condition affecting the stability of his eye muscles, so while he now has glasses to correct astigmatism and myopia, he mostly only uses one eye for all his antics. He pretty much goes all-in all the time, smiling!
Thank you strider!! While there are other balance bikes on the market, I strongly feel that the design and engineering behind Strider is superior. It has the lowest minimum seat height yet extends high enough for an older toddler; with the narrower handlebar, smaller grips and light-weight frame geometry, it allows very small children to manipulate and maneuver the bike with little effort, more of a reflex than a process.
I feel it is the best balance bike on the market.

The bike works for it's intended use but materials are pretty cheap for the price you pay. For example bikes have a "headset", it's the bearings the on top and bottom of the frame where the fork goes through it. With a properly installed and adjusted headset there's no play between the frame and fork and the rotate rotates smooth and consistent. This does not have any sort of bearing for smooth operation or a way to really make it snug. It uses plastic washers as the headset bearings which was disappointing. It's not a bad bike but after seeing all the good reviews and taking the price into account I expected more. It's not a real good value

Best Balance Bike

By Mike C

Comments about Strider Sports 1019787 Strider 12 Sport No-Pedal Balance Bike - Yellow:

I'm a proud owner and dad of two Strider Sport balance bikes. Worked so great for my first daughter that I purchased a second one (different color of course). In my opinion these are the best balance bikes made. It's obvious these bikes were originally thought out by someone with kids. They also obviously wanted to start their kids out young riding. I purchased both of these bikes on my daughters second birthday. They were immediately able to straddle the cross bar and begin pushing the bikes around. There are a few other well made brands but none that had a cross bar low enough or seat post that lowered enough for my smaller two year old daughters. I would have had to wait several more months before the others would work. In my opinion, age two is the time to expose this bike to children. My four year old still loves her strider and just transitioned directly to pedal bike. You will not regret buying this bike.

Great bike for a first time rider!!

Comments about Strider Sports 1019787 Strider 12 Sport No-Pedal Balance Bike - Yellow:

We have read the many benefits of starting kids on a Strider bike before using a normal pedal bike. Our son (3 now, 2 when he started using it) loves this bike. He zooms around our neighborhood with ease and I'm sure when he is ready, he will transition to a pedal bike really well without training wheel. I wish we had one of these for his older sister!!

Amazing bike!! My son rode it from 18 months to 4 years when he got a pedal bike. He seriously jumped on the pedal bike and started riding with no trining wheels. I would recommend a Strider to any toddler!! My son loved being a Strider Rider

My daughter learned to ride on one, so, of course had to get one for our son. He is 17 months old and has already participated in a Strider Cup. I recommend these bikes to all toddlers.

My daughter loves riding this bike. We get people surprised at how young she is using it asking about it all the time. The assembly and adjustments are very easy to do. I can't think of how this bike could be any better than it is. The customer service is excellent as well.

My 2year old is riding a bike without training whe

Comments about Strider Sports 1019787 Strider 12 Sport No-Pedal Balance Bike - Yellow:

We bought our son a strider for his 2nd birthday. After a little practice he was gliding around all over the place. His 6 year old brother just learned to ride a bike without trainers...the hardest part was the balance. One day I got a wild hair and decided to see if his little brother could try on his smaller bike. He literally rode within a couple and is riding all over the place. He just turned three and has been riding a full on bike now for about a month...I am amazed at what Strider has done for kids!

Makes the transition to a bike a breeze

Comments about Strider Sports 1019787 Strider 12 Sport No-Pedal Balance Bike - Yellow:

My boys were given a strider bike for Christmas & cruised around the kitchen & hallways with it that winter. By March my 4 yr old wanted to try his bike without his training wheels & like an old pro, he took off! No dramatic wobbling or tears or us pressuring him to do it. He just took off like he had done it a thousand times! I didn't really understand what was so great about them before we had one. But now that I know, we drove 3 hours to do the Strider Cup with our 2 yr old!

Strider is the only way to go! Constant amazement!

By Mizylisa2u

Comments about Strider Sports 1019787 Strider 12 Sport No-Pedal Balance Bike - Yellow:

My son got his mtn strider at 14 months old and literally loved it from day 1! He progressed into riding at the bmx track and skate parks and even did a strider bike race which he loved!! He loves doing "tricks" standing up and riding, ramps, up/down steps etc! We gave him his first pedal bike gave him a week to learn to pedal (he never had a tricycle or anything) and then told him training wheels were broke! First time his dad let go he pedaled away as though he's been doing it for 10 years! He's 3 y/o and probably could've done it sooner but he refused to ride the "other" bike! If only strider could add pedals as they progress! Lol compared to other balance bikes I've seen friends use I'd still recommend strider! Height/light weight allow them to start young and grow with bike. I even take it on hikes and he'd rode a mile then I could hand it on my BOB stroller handle and he could rest! It's sooo much light than a pedal bike! Best toy or entertainment I've ever bought my son!
