Our family received the Let's Imagine Elmo for free (via Bzzagent). My son is 27 months and my daughter is 5 & 1/2 years old. I know they were looking for my son to play with Elmo, but my daughter likes him more! More on that in a bit.

Packaging. Cardboard and plastic (mostly recyclable) and relatively easy to get out of the box. When you get him he is in "Demo Mode" and wearing the crown.

He comes with three hats: Crown, Pirate, Cowboy.
The Crown: when you place this on Elmo's head (I say place, but really you have to click it into a hole in between Elmo's eyeballs) Elmo plays the game "Prince Elmo Says". Like "simon says" this game is about learning to listen and follow direction. My son is not able to pick up on Elmo's cues at all. He struggles and even after prompting from myself or his big sister, he is too slow, Elmo has moved on. My daughter however likes this game. I think she just likes the crown the best because it reminds her of Princesses. She is able to follow the directions (it only asks the child to perform three tasks: bounce Elmo, Tickle Elmo's tummy and squeeze Elmo's nose). She had a hard time understanding him when he says "bounce" but we got that figured out quickly. After the child had mastered doing one task that Elmo asks, then it puts two tasks in line to have them do them in a row. This is great that the toy can become more complex and help the child learn those valuable skills.

The Cowboy Hat: In this mode Elmo tries to get the child to count to twenty. He encourages it by having the child squeeze Elmo's nose. As this is somewhat difficult to do, and harder when you add that Elmo's face is moving as he is counting, I think maybe squeezing his hand or foot may have been better.. but honestly we don't spend much time in the "cowboy hat".

The pirate hat: This mode takes the most patience and focus. Elmo tells the kids what to listen for and then plays a song. When you hear the sound you are to tickle his tummy. My 5 year old finds it a fun challenge, but there is no way my 2 year old has a clue what is going on.

Elmo it just the right size for a child 2-4, very carry-able and fun. His body and head are a little heavier, and that makes his arms and legs seem flimsy. I am not sure how much tugging his legs will be able to handle when being fished out from under other toys in the toy box. I can see his hats getting misplaced, but I think that is the risk you run for having any multi-part toy at this age range. I also think putting the hats on and taking them off requires more dexterity than a 2 year old has. My 5 year old struggles with it sometimes, and again if Elmo's head is moving from him talking it makes the task that much harder.

I don't want to make it sound like my son doesn't like Elmo, because he does. He just is not able to interact with him the way the toy was "intended", yet. He likes hugging Elmo and watching him talk along with watching his sister have fun with him. I think as my son gets older he will enjoy Elmo more and more. I am not sure how long the games on Elmo with keep the kids attention, we have only had him for a week, but as with any toy you can always put away for a time and bring back out.

In all I think it is a pretty good toy. I would consider buying it for a 3-4 year old, boy or girl.

Too Advanced for My 12 Month Son

I received Elmo free of charge from Playskool for product testing through BzzAgent. Thank you Playskool. I have a 12 month son, and this is what we thought of Let's Imagine Elmo.Read complete review

I received Elmo free of charge from Playskool for product testing through BzzAgent. Thank you Playskool. I have a 12 month son, and this is what we thought of Let's Imagine Elmo.

Elmo came safe and secure in his box. He was very easy to remove from the box. When I first held Elmo, I thought that he was very wobbly and not very sturdy. After playing with Elmo, I realized that this can be a positive attribute because Elmo is light and gentle with a young child. Elmo comes in a Try Me mode which repeats the same thing over and over. At first I thought he was broken, but then I found the hidden switch on Elmo's bottom to turn the switch into the on position.

At first my son was interested in Elmo, but then he became frightened of him. I think that he was afraid of the talking mouth (yes, Elmo's mouth moves when he talks), and the loud intensity of his voice. I wish there was a way to control the volume so that he was not always so loud. **Please note: My son is 12 months old, and the product is recommended for 2-4 years old.

Elmo comes with 4 different functions (hats), and there are 3 things that you can do to Elmo: bounce Elmo, tickle Elmo's tummy, and squeeze his nose. The hats are very easy for me to put on, but I am not sure if it would be easy for a 2-4 year old child. My 12 month son can not change out the hats. Here are what the different hats do:

Crown (Prince Elmo) - Prince Elmo plays a version of Simon Says. I think it is difficult to understand Elmo's directions at first. Once you can anticipate what he is saying, he is easier to understand. Elmo starts with one direction for the child to follow. Once the child is successful with one direction, he starts to challenge the child by giving 2 step directions. Remember, there are only 3 things you can do to Elmo (bounce Elmo, tickle Elmo's tummy, and squeeze his nose) so this function becomes very repetitive.

Sea Captain Hat (Captain Elmo) - Captain Elmo plays a sound memory game. He gives you a sound from the ocean and then asks you to press his tummy when you hear the sound. This function is very cute. There are 4 sounds (horn, seagull, bell, dolphin). Once the child is successful with identifying 1 sound, Elmo will play different sounds as a challenge, and the child is supposed to identify the right sound.

Cowboy Hat (Cowboy Elmo) - Cowboy Elmo teaches your little one to count. This is my favorite function. When you press Elmo's nose, he counts. Elmo will count up to 20.

No Hat Function - You can bounce Elmo, tickle Elmo's tummy, and squeeze his nose. Bouncing Elmo is a little awkward. You are supposed to pick him up and set him back down. You know you have completed the bounce successfully when you hear a bounce noise. It is easy to tickle Elmo's tummy and squeeze his nose.

Overall, I like Elmo. I think he is a little advanced for my 12 month old son. I will still try to interact with my son and Elmo, but I know I will be doing all of the manipulating of Elmo. Most likely, I will put Elmo away and bring him out again when he is 2 and ready to interactive with Elmo on his own.

Our son grabbed this Elmo in the store so we bought it. He's cute, but only says one phrase. The toy comes with three different hats you clip on his head so I assumed each hat would be associated with a different phrase. Not sure if ours is broken but it's more of a stuffed animal laying around the house right now than a toy.

Elmo is fun, but a little frustrating

Comments about Hasbro 1001119 Playskool Sesame Street Let's Imagine Elmo Toy:

I received this product to try for free from BzzAgent.

My 3 year old daughter is very independent and wants to do everything herself, so I handed her Elmo and the hats and told her to put the hats on his head to play with him. The hat was difficult enough to insert in the slot, but Elmo keeps talking saying to put a hat on to play with him, so that made it even more difficult and frustrating for her. She threw the captain hat down and said, "I can't." So she let me put it on and she was fine.

There are 3 ways to play:

Captain Elmo - squeeze Elmo's tummy to hear a song, then play a listening game. Listen for seagulls, dolphins, and horns and squeeze Elmo's tummy when you hear the sound.

Prince Elmo - play Prince Elmo Says, similar to the game Simon Says.

Cowboy Elmo - squeeze Elmo's nose to count to 20.

My daughter's favorite is Cowboy Elmo. She likes to squeeze his nose to count. It would be nice if he counted higher than 20. She also likes to bounce him to make him gallop and say yeehaw! She doesn't spend much time playing with him because she gets frustrated trying to change the hats and wants to do it herself.

Overall, I think it's a good toy. I just think it would be nice if the hats were easier to change so kids can play independently.

Comments about Hasbro 1001119 Playskool Sesame Street Let's Imagine Elmo Toy:

We were asked to review Elmo in exchange for a free toy. At first I was nervous because we have many Elmo toys at home and they are very age specific, once my kids grow out of them we end up donating or passing them on to friends. I was not expecting anything more with this Elmo. Lucky for me, the girls and I were pleasantly surprised! My youngest is one and my oldest is four and it is hard to find toys to keep them both entertained. While my oldest really grasped the activities and the concepts of dressing up with Elmo, my youngest had just as much fun playing with Elmo and dancing along to his songs. I would HIGHLY recommend Elmo to any moms on the fence about how much play he would get. He is a HUGE hit in our house and I am definitely going to get him for my nephews 2nd birthday! The absolute only complaint is the hats are a little hard for my four year old to get in the pegs on her own. Otherwise- A+ in our book!

I was able to try this toy via Bzzagent.com website.

My 17 months old really likes Elmo and his Let's Imagine Elmo is one of the favorite toys of the moment.

He likes to change Elmo's hat and playing the different games, but he needs help to do it as the hats are quite hard to remove. It's really fun to see Elmo opening his mouth when he talks and it makes my son laughing. He was laughing so hard when he heard Elmo for the girst time when we opened the box.

My only deception is that there is not a lot of different activities, the different games are really limited and after several minutes of playing my son often gets bored of it. I wish there was more hats or more activities per hat.

My daughter go to try this product for free thanks to Playskool and BzzAgent. She is 2 had a great time sitting with Elmo on the couch and trying his different hats on. Even her 5 year old brother liked trying his different hats on. He enjoyed pirate mode while she enjoyed his prince mode and "Elmo Says" game.
I like how his bottom is weighted and that he'll sit on a surface. This keeps him from falling over all the time when my daughter was playing with him. The reason for not 5 stars is that Elmo didn't hold her interest for very long. He was great for 20-30 minutes but then put away with her other babies. His hats kept getting separated from Elmo, so I wish there would be a better way to keep them with him. While she is only 2.5 I felt this toy was young for her. She likes Sesame Street but doesn't love them so that could be a reason for the loss of interest after awhile.

I received this product for free in return for my review via Playskool and BzzAgent. While my son wasnt highly interested in the toy, it would be great for a younger age group (my son is 4) and is very entertaining. Prince Elmo plays a game of Prince Elmo says with the kids. When you change his hat to the cowboy, he teaches numbers. When you change his hat to the Sea Captain, he plays a sound guessing game. My 4 year old ran the gammet on these and lost interest quickly. A younger child (around 1-3) may play with longer.

I'm lucky enough to get to try this product from Playskool through Bzz Agent and let's just say Christmas came 6 months early to my house. My son loves singing along with Elmo and recites his saying all day long. I wish that there were other attachment hats that you could buy separately to have more adventures with Elmo. Great addition to the line.

I received the Playskool Let's Imagine Elmo for free from BzzAgent in exchange for reviewing it. I have a 2.5 year-old daughter, and while she liked it, this is not her favorite toy. Elmo reacts differently based on which hat you place on him. The crown starts the "Elmo Says" game, the pirate hat starts a sound identification game, and the cowboy hat starts a counting game.

My daughter likes Elmo, but I wouldn't say he is her favorite character, so that may be part of why this isn't her favorite toy. She liked it when we first got it, but she quickly grew bored with it. Now she rarely plays with it unless I hand it to her. It would be nice if it had a way to update the product to add more games. I don't think this product is worth $29.99 because of the lack of options.

My one complaint is that she has a hard time changing out the hats by herself. She gets bored with the game after a minute or so and then is constantly asking me to change the hat for her.
