I do not typically write reviews, but my recent experience warranted for one. My first son was exclusively bottle fed (breasmilk) since he was a lazy nurser and didn't gain weight. My second one who is one month old now is great on the breast but takes his time so if I ever wanted to get out of the house to run an errand I wanted to pump milk and have my nanny feed him. I bought the wide neck Dr. Browns for him, but they made him choke and gag, I think because they are too fast flow. He was also not able to latch onto the nipple which made him swallow a huge amount of air making him gassy and miserable during and after the feeding. Then I tried Tomme Tippee bottles as they were supposed to be closer to the shape of the breast, but maybe not mine as they were even worse than the browns. See, I believe the trick is in the right nipple, because if the nipple is not right for your baby, no matter how advanced venting system is installed in the bottle (dr. brown's) baby will suck in air due to incorrect latching. This is what happened to my baby at least. Desperate, I went to [...] and bought one of all of the main brands of bottles to try. I found the new medela bottles with the WIDE BASE nipple and since they can be attached to my medela pump I gave them a try first. It was amazing. My LO latched on right away and slowly and comfortably drank the whole bottle without choking or coughing up milk a single time and was happy and content afterwards drifting into sleep like he would on the breast. They work wonderfully. Here is the summary: - BPA FREE, FYI... Medela stuff has always been bpa free, just now they make sure it's written on all of their stuff just like other companies do, who have just switched to bpa free plastic. Don't believe me? Check their website. -In addition to being great bottles the ring and nipple attaches to all other (older) pumping bottles too so I didn't have to buy any more. (all medela stuff has ALWAYS BEEN BPA FREE) This saves money and time too as you don't have to wash as many bottles; you use the same ones for pumping and feeding. Just buy more nipples and rings. Great idea! - Simple construction, only 3 pieces plus a cap vs. 6 pc for dr browns. - There is no venting system, but I believe it is overrated and mostly used for justifying the high price. My LO was very gassy from the dr browns even with the complex venting system. - The nipple is just the right size, not too wide which can be hard to latch onto (tommee tippee) and not too narrow (dr. brown's standard) which can cause nipple confusion. - The slow flow nipple could be a bit slower, although it didn't cause a choking problem. I'm hoping LO will not refuse the breast in hope for the convenient bottle. Will give an update later on this. - Cannot comment on durability as we have just started using them. Will update on this too. My older bottles are very durable, hoping these would be too. Finally... Breast and babies come in different shapes and sizes so what works for me may not work for you. I hope this review helps you to choose, but ultimately it will your baby who makes the final decision. : )

I breastfeed and bottlefeed 100% breastmilk and I am disappointed with the nipples that come with these bottles. They are not slow-flow and they have narrow bases. For such a lage supplier of breastfeeding products, I am quite surprised and dismayed that Medela does not have a nipple design that would work with breastfeeding. The flow was way too fast for my baby and the narrow-base nipple definitely did not make latch-on any easier with breastfeeding. I quit using these very soon after my baby was born because of their poor design. I found other manufacturers who make wider nipples with slow-flow and they are wonderful! I only use these Medela bottles now to store my milk in, not for any feeding whatsoever. As for storing, I have never had any problems with leaking, and their shape makes it easy to pour the milk...into better bottles.

Comments about Medela BPA Free Breast Milk Bottle - 5 oz.:

My daughter has been using these bottles since she was a newborn. They are very durable. Users that have issues with leaking rings or collapsing nipples are probably tightening the lid too tight. My only issue with these bottles is that the rings seem to crack easily. I've already ordered replacements once and now I need to again. Once my daughter started to hold her own bottle she also started tossing her own bottle and she's cracked lots of rings. I do recommend the bottles but wish this part held up better.

Comments about Medela BPA Free Breast Milk Bottle - 5 oz.:

I like to use these bottles because I can pump right into them using my Medela pump. My son takes to the nipple just fine.

Sometimes milk does come out where the nipple attaches.

I HATE the bottle cover that goes over the nipple. There is a gap. So the milk will leak into the cap. SO ANNOYING when we take the bottle out and about. You always have to keep the bottles upright! A huge waste of milk.

Comments about Medela BPA Free Breast Milk Bottle - 5 oz.:

We have tried a few different bottles with the newest member of our family. Our first daughter used Avent. BUT, our new little darling didn't like the Avent, Dr.Browns, Playtex drop-ins, orfirstyears breastflow. I was getting desperate, as she needed to be supplemented with neocate to thrive. I ordered one of these just to give it a try, and my sweet little angel drank the whole bottle. I was thrilled! they are fairly inexpensive too. I LOVE that they are easy to wash, with no extra parts. Just a nice simple bottle. We haven't had any leaking issues, like with Dr.browns and Avent either. I think it depends on the latch your LO has. My daughters mouth isn't really big, so her latch is a little more shallow. I think the bottles with a really large nipple (palytex drop-ins, firstyears breastflow) were just too big, the nipple on the avent was just too hard, and the dr.browns drowned our LO. BUT, Make sure you get the wide neck one. It's not SUPER wide, but it's much better than their smaller nipple, and it actually worked for us. Every baby is different, but I'm grateful for these. :)

Once I went back to work, my son had a problem latching on well to bottle nipples. They all just seemed to be too big and he couldn't hold it in his mouth very well. I bought some Medela bottles and he latched on great and his gas has even gotten ALOT better!

I bought these bottles because they fit the Ameda breast pump I have. They are fine for storing milk but as far as feeding my baby with them they are terrible! The nipple pours milk out extremely quickly so I have to hold the bottle vertically only filling the nipple partially so that my baby doesn't start choking. I am going to the store today to get other bottles to feed him with. I hate these bottles.

Comments about Medela BPA Free Breast Milk Bottle - 5 oz.:

I use the BornFree bottles which are great but I still use these for my 6 month old son. He loves to hold this up by himself because of the size. This nipple brand has lastest the longest out of every brand that I have. I have used Playtex Ventaire, Playtex Nursers, and Dr. Browns ( HATED THOSE) AND Born Free. My son happens to only like level 1 of all bottoms. All other nipples ripped after 3 months ( which is what they are supposed to do) but these have lasted 6 months. I would just use it with the top to freeze my milk and than after warming it up, put the top on for baby. Love these. will use these for my next one.

The one thing I learned about these is not to tighten the top on too tight or it will leak.

These bottles are compatible with my Medela breast-pump.. however, I transfer all the milk into another brand of bottles (Avent, for us) because these nipples would collapse EVERY time my son would eat out of them. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend the Medela breast pump, but would not recommend the bottles for feeding.

My baby is now 5mons and she didnt spill the breastmilk. she can drink perfectly from the bottle. She finds it easy to drink also compared to other bottle.
Even my husband feel its easy to feed her during night time.
I like Medela bottles, I would recommend to my friends.

Comments about Medela BPA Free Breast Milk Bottle - 5 oz.:

Early on we used the Haberman bottle which is also made by Medela. The Haberman is for premies and babies who are having difficulties breast-feeding, which was the case for our daughter. She never was able to nurse so we kept using the Haberman which has a longer than normal nipple that is separated from the bottle itself by a thin platic layer so it acts as a valve to control the milk flow. We ended up really liking the bottle since it also prevented colic. Eventually though it was too small so I was happy to discover that the same nipple would fit on my Medela breast pump bottles (the same as these). This has worked out really well for us although we get lots of curious looks about the strange-looking nipple. My one complaint is that the bottles are starting to turn a brownish color even though we wash them every time and sterilize them often too. Since they are BPA-free I am not sure what is causing this but am planning to replace them.
