To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen by combining the Danish words "Leg Got" that means "play well". The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children around the world, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO innovation continues to this day with product lines like DUPLO that was created in 1969 for smaller hands and still thrives. Movie tie-ins, such as LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones Adventures and LEGO SpongeBob are some of the most popular sets.

This is the first LEGO kit I have bought in perhaps 20 years. I have huge boxes of LEGO and Technics to sort out at my parents house one day. I was really looking forward to building this model but I'm towards the end of bag set 5 out of 7 and I keep coming across missing pieces. First I thought it was me, not having used LEGO for many years, but even with careful organisation of the pieces and opening bags 1 first, 2 and then so on.... I'm still finding a lot of pieces not supplied. This is hugely disappointing as now the project is essentially on 'hold' until the pieces are supplied by LEGO. However, I now see a message saying missing pieces won't be supplied until end of January. I can understand longer times around Christmas but this seems ludicrous and I have not come across this problem with any other retailer. The model itself looks great and I'm sure will be a lot of fun when finished but I suspect that will be some time in February. Overall: would be great but at the moment poor and incomplete thanks to multiple missing pieces. For such an expensive product I would have expected better.

Bang for your buck

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I got this set for Christmas, didn't ask for it, parents sprung it on me. At first it was incredibly overstimulating, huge box, tons of minifigs, high expectations. When I finally got around to opening it, I really likes the organization within the box. In the box are four smaller boxes, white, and the size of maybe a 30-40 dollar set, that contains different numbered packages of pieces. Everything went smoothly until the second level. While building the hangar, I was missing a 4x8 (I think) black plate. I had one spare but many people may not. Other than that, my only other thought (but would be expected with this set) is how repetitive it was. Each layer has the same build pattern, with small alterations. Overall, great playability, fairly good value, nice set.

Not bad, but not good.

By FunnyLegoUserTag

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I love Lego, like most people. And like most fans, I love Lego Star Wars. But unfortunately, this Lego set did not seem to please me like it would with other sets. This is something more attached to children around 10 to 13, but for those who are "brickmasters", this may not be the recommended set. Besides, there's no way this can beat the Death Star II Lego set. Sorry to cause any disagreements with others.

I have wanted this set ...

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I have wanted this set ever since it came out. When I got it I was so happy. This set has so much playability and it is so iconic. From the prison when Leia was freed in episode 4, to the Trash compactor and of course, the Super laser. I wish everybody had this set, they would be so happy :)

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

while it was challenging to build it was worth it. love the details and all the moving parts. Way too pricey! only reason I broke down to buy it was because my grandson had asked for it for the past 4 years.

Lots of fun

By bigalphillips

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I own a bunch of the UCS lego sets, and I am super happy with this purchase. You build the first layer and you are slightly disappointed with the level of detail... and then you continue building and realize that the first level was so utterly insignificant in the grand scheme of the model that it doesn't matter. There is literally every deathstar scene from the original trilogy built into this model. It is amazing. As with almost every lego model ever produced, I would like to urge lego to better disambiguate the white-lightgrey-darkgrey-black colours in the instructions.

Amazing Lego Set

By LegoMomofEvandBen

from Richmond Hill

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

Our 13 year old son assembled this set in 12 hours, over 4 nights (1 box per night). He saved up his money to buy this set and was overjoyed. This set has all the detail to simulate every scene on the Death Star, along with tons of mini figures. I don't think one thing is missing. I rated this set as challenging because of the time involved and the number of pieces.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This product is an amazing addition to any lego star wars collection. I really have enjoyed it but there are a few problems with it. The first is that there is no outer shell. This makes it great for younger users but for older users like me, I think an outer shell would have added to the design. The second is the price. I think that it should have been between $300 and $350 for price. Other than that, this is an amazing set. I would recommend it to younger users, but for those who don't want to play with it, I would recommend the Lego Star Wars Death Star II (10143.) Just a warning, the Death Star II is extremely hard to find and extremely expensive.

This is one of the most ...

        By BubbaJoe

        from Chicago

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This is one of the most expensive Lego sets, yet it lacks a lot of detail that smaller, less expensive sets have. With a few exceptions, such as the main cannon, this set uses very little advanced building techniques. There is a lot of repetitive, brick-on-brick stacking. Also, the set seems more suitable as a child's playset, rather than a model for adults. I suspect that the only reason it is aged at 14+ is because of the price tag.

        So many features!

        By allenxcr

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

Building the Death Star was incredibly fun even for a 49 year old guy like me. :-) I was impressed with how many different features this model has such as 2 blast doors that open and close, 1 with a gear mechanism, 2 working elevators, 1 for people and 1 for freight and things like from the holding cell you can throw Luke and Leia into the trash compactor below and then the walls can even close in on them. I also enjoyed the level of details such as the use of different textures and depths of walls and special indentations, etc to add interest and give it more visual depth. The way the holding cell seems to disappear into the distance using multiple smaller and smaller openings in the walls and the sticker at the end with yet even more diminishing view. My favorite section of the model is the emperor's room with many action items to play different scenes with. After it was complete there are so many scenes from the movies that can be played out. Myself and my 12 and 13 year old sons really have a great time playing with it after it was complete. I had sticker shock at first, but now having built it I am very pleased with my purchase, it was worth the price.
