Please do NOT buy this item! The only thing you will get out of it is a small plastic dinosaur. My son was so excited to use it so we tried to go to the online game and it doesn't exist anymore! I can't believe that stores would even sell it anymore since you can not play the game with it. I would have given it 0 stars if I could since it is just a piece on non-working plastic.

The dinosaur is just ok, but the real problem is with the online game. None of my son's friends play because the game is only free to play for three days. Why only three days? Other games are free forever. Also, the online game is so confusing. My 10 year old son was deeply frustrated and so was I. It is not intuitive at all.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

While at the local Toys R' Us store the other day I came upon Xtractaurs. They caught my eye since I have always loved dinosaurs. I instantly loved how they looked like "stylish" dinosaur figures and had to get a couple to see what they were all about. I wasn't disappointed at all when I got home. The figures themselves are fairly high quality given the price tag. You can remove their heads and tails and combine them with other dinosaurs to make your own hybrid figures. While this is interesting, it would have been even better if the legs were removable as well. Even though they lack the ability to switch legs, the figures themselves are great. Then I hooked up the DNA extraction gun to my computer and setup an account with the Xtractaurs website. Once you have an account setup on the website you go to the DNA extraction page and upload your new dinosaur's DNA. You do this by holding the trigger on the gun and inseting the tip of it into a small hole on the dinosaur's back. The DNA chamber on the gun lights up red and then turns green. The green light gets dimmer and then brighter again until the DNA is fully uploaded. Once you let go of the trigger on the gun, then DNA inside of the chamber on the gun spins around. After your dinosaur is on the website you can combine his various body parts (head, spine, tail, legs, wings) with other dinosaurs you earn by playing the battle game. Aside from the battle game there are also 5 other mini games on the website and an adventure game that comes with each species of dinosaur figure. Overall the website is a lot of fun. I am an adult and it stimulated me all afternoon, although the website is perfectly fine for a younger audience as well.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
