Doctors and parents alike recommend this product because it's gentle. Following the general rule of thumb for newborns and infants, you really want to minimize the chemicals you introduce into your child's life, in case he/she has a severe allergic reaction. my daughter started getting these unexplained rashes in her face, and some parents suggested washing the clothes i feed her with in Dreft also. it cleared right up.

You should also get the High-Efficiency (HE) Dreft if you have one of those new High-Efficiency washers like that sexy Maytag one. Otherwise you're gonna get too many suds forcing you to use less than the recommended amount. Also, too many suds can lead to some mold or other damaging stuff to your HE washer. We just bought our HE washer but had regular Dreft leftover, so i had to put less Dreft and add an extra rinse cycle, effectively diminishing both the cleaning power of Dreft and the efficiency of the washer.

Just some thoughts from a stay-at-home first time Dad who likes researching things to exhaustion!

I used Dreft for about 18 months. I loved how it kept clothes stain free and I didn't notice any weird smell -although clothes were stiff. Now I see how it made him itchy. My son developed eczema at just 3 months and I didn't consider changing detergents until his eczema got so bad he landed in the hospital. Doctor advised me to switch detergents and I tried All free clear + a toddler fabric softener. This seems to work best on my son's skin. His eczema is much better. Dreft is too strong.

My son is 3 yrs old now and I still use it on his clothes. He has pretty bad eczema and we have to be very aggressive with his treatments. I tried All free and clear and it broke him out instantly!!! I dont really understand why people say it stinks or it doesnt get out stains... In 3 yrs I have never experienced either, since he is a little older and plays outside I occassionally add a little baking soda to the laundry but that is it!!! I even used it on my clothes when I was nursing. Dreft has gotten rid of grass stains, poop, throw up you name it!!! It is slightly higher than other brands, but well worth it for my son's comfort!!! Dreft is the only detergent he can use, we are having another baby and I plan to use it with her.

smells like baby powder when you open the bottle, but when the clothes are dry, it smells like something I cannot tolerate. I just do not like it

I bought a bottle of Dreft while I was still pregnant and washed all of her clothes and bedding with it before she arrived to minimize her exposure to any harsh chemicals. It doesn't have any fragrence (which is kind of the whole idea) so things just didn't smell all that fresh. Once my little one made her debut I noticed that it didn't seem to get spit-up out of her clothes/bibs very well. I washed one bib in regular old Tide just to see if she would tolerate it well and when she did I made the switch back to regular detergent and gave all of my Dreft away. It just wasn't necessary.

Store brands work just as good. I bought one bottle of Dreft, lasted for the first 2 1/2 months..but the expense compared to store brand was not worth it, I would rather use our money towards other baby needs, like the pampers swaddlers. However I would add to your baby registry a few bottle than you won't have to purchase yourself..

When I had my first baby everyone said to use Dreft. We tried the liquid and powder kinds, and both were horrible. It's expensive, it stinks, cleaned nothing, and the clothes came out feeling stiff and coarse. We won't be using this again.
