Nice quality. Pleasant sounding xylophone. Kind of a softer tone than the metal ones. Fun for a young one to play with. I wouldn't let a baby play with this unattended simply because of the wooden stick (they typically put it in their mouth).

I purchased this xylophone by first act discovery for my 2 year old boy. As soon as I hopped into the car, I ripped open the package and my son began smiling and grabbing for the xylophone. He enjoyed producing sounds and hitting it with the plain wooden mallet that came with the instrument.I can tell he will enjoy this piece for at least a few months. It is a good intro piece into the world of musical instruments and it accomplishes its purpose. I do not recommend this to a person looking for a loud xylophone as the sound is subtle and soft. There is even a cloth piece between the keys and the back piece itself which I wonder if I am supposed to remove..The one we purchased at Toys R Us is not the exact design as the one pictured here as there are no decals on the keys, but that's not a big deal to me. The tons is soft and enjoyable and great for toddlers.I would recommend this instrument to a friend.The cost for me was [$]. A bargain!

Bought this for my 7 mo. old grand niece. She loved it!! She can play band with her older brother and sister.

First of all, what I received was a completely plain toy. No design of any kind. I had scheduled for store pick up and they looked for something like what is pictured above (yes, I got this largely for the cute design). Nada. I contact online customer service, get a voice mail directing me to check my email for options. Never got the email. Called back, was told I could take the first one back to the store and they would send out one like what I saw on the website. Just got the second one--also plain wood. It wouldn't bother me as much if they didn't already look like kids had been beating on them for awhile. Each has chips, dings and uneven varnish. And the mallet is a short, black plastic composite piece. The sound is not grating, but not that good either. I wasn't expecting much for under $10, but this is ridiculous. Completely unacceptable as part of the gift package I am preparing.

The sound is not very pretty to listen to :) A little better than the metal ones, but not much.

I shopped around for a while for a great, quality xylophone for my 1 year old son. Specifically, I was looking for one that would not give me a headache everytime he played it. This one is perfect. Even though it is meant for an older age group it has been great for supervised play. It is well-made, perfectly tuned, durable and sounds a little like wooden wind chimes. There's even a pair of holes to tuck the mallet into. You really can't beat the price and he loves it. I expect he will be playing with it for a long time to come.
