I bought this for my 7 month old daughter's Christmas present, since I've been reading her the Very Hungry Catepillar book and it was a favorite of mine as a child too.
This toy is a disappointment. The fruits are barely recognizable and not well made, there just isn't enough detail for the price you're paying. The plum (I presume) is actually a light blue, the strawberry is just a red triangle shape with no detail added for the seeds. They are also quite boring to play with; the strawberry and pear both have a squeaker, the orange,the apple and the caterpillar himself all crinkle and the blue plum has a jingle bell inside and that's about it. No real variety at all.
Anyone with halfway decent knitting, crochet or sewing skills could do a better job of creating more realistic fruits. The caterpillar isn't bad and the storage apple is probably the most interesting thing about it.
My daughter has shown no interest in it at all. She has more variety in her other toys, which capture her interest more than this

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love this toy! My son is 7 weeks and he loves to look at the toys, the fruits do different things (have crinkle paper inside, squeak, rattle) so they always keep his attention, and I'm sure he will STILL play with this toy when he is 6+ months. The fruits also have thick strings that my son tries to grab. Between the sounds, and touch - you can really see his brain working when we play with this toy.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This toy is awesome! We received as a gift-it's so versatile! My 6 month old plays with and (and chews on it's characters) and my 3 1/2 year old plays with it and it gives her a visual that she likes to play with when reading the very hungry caterpillar. Such a fun toy!
