We have a very energetic grandson and people have looked at him wearing a harness as like he was a dog on a leash. Just recently he darted out of the church after it was over and ran directly across a road. He could have been killed. We have had him in the mall and have had him run off hiding in racks. He is two going on 3 and I thought it seemed cruel but after the scare at church that made me know that he would be wearing one if he was not going to listen. He did not listen when his mother called his name and told him to stop. If you discipline your child in public you are frowned on and if you do nothing you are frowned on. I think that these are great especially when in large crowds where they could dart off and get lost. So those that have a problem with them...get over it.

If you are going to use a child leash, make sure that the piece attaching the leash to the harness around your child is made of a STURDY material, like METAL. My 2-year old son was wearing the harness, which I'm sure gave him the feeling that he can rely on leaning forward since the leash holding him back. In a blink of an eye, the plastic connector snapped and broke and he went flying forward face-first onto the concrete floor. I blame this contraption for the breaking of his front tooth, jamming two of his other teeth into his gums, and cutting both of his lips and chin. He lost a lot of blood and cried non-stop for two days. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR ANY OTHER CHEAPLY MADE HARNESS/LEASH UNLESS YOUR ARE SURE SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO YOUR CHILD.

Fits perfectly on my 2 , 3, and 4 years old. They are always near by and I dont have to worry about chasing them and it allows them to walk rather than ride in a stroller for more freedom without the worries.

Comments about Safety 1st Child Safety Harness:

Works exactly how its supposed to. My only complaints are that it literally looks like a leash. Could have made it a little more attractive or offer in differant colors. Also my son is 90th percentile in growth for his age, so granted he is big, but I doubt the harness will still fit him when he is 2.

I bought this because I have 3 busy 2 year olds who no longer want to sit in the stroller. This is great! It gives them a little bit of room to not have to hold hands, but they can't run in 3 different directions! Trips to the zoo and mall are MUCH nicer now! I'd definitely reccommend!

Comments about Safety 1st Child Safety Harness:

We live on a sailboat, so my son always walks near the water. The harness gives him freedom & independence and keeps him from going too far, but more importantly from falling in the water. He has worn this harness every day for the last 1,5y.
By loosening one of the shoulder straps the harness easily slips over his head and he automatically slips his arm through. The wide velcro on the back makes a snug fit. We have used this product constantly and can say that is good quality and would recommend it to everyone.
As for the plastic clip, I agree that looks a bit flimsy but we never had a problem with it. We threaded the small velcro attachment through both clip & loop and it never failed.
We also travel a lot by air and on these travels the harness is also always on. Excellent at the airport, leaves your hands free for other things.
Our only regret is that there apparently is no larger version. Our son is 27 months and very big for his age. That combined with a padded coat and it doesn't fit anymore. We finally found a larger one from Baby Buddy.

I wanted to try a harness for my 2 year old daughter because she is not a fan of riding in a buggy or stroller. I thought about buying one of the more expensive harnesses but then decided that for [$] I would purchase this one just to see how she did with it. She loves it!! The harness itself is worth every penny. The only thing I could see that might be a future problem is the plastic attachment that you hook the lease too. Seems sturdy but I haven't had it long.

Comments about Safety 1st Child Safety Harness:

This is a great harness for the price. 30 years ago, when my son was 1 and started walking, he didn't want to know anything about riding in a stroller. Going to the mall, or anywhere else, became a hassle because he insisted on walking. Of course, I wanted him to walk but he wouldn't hold my hand and if I had packages in my arms, he was hard to catch up to. Once, he got lost for a few minutes in a convenience store when I asked my 12 year old sister-in-law to not let go of his hand for a few minutes while I paid for an item...YOU CANNOT IMAGINE MY FEAR FOR THOSE THREE MINUTES when I couldn't find him!!! Back then, there were no kid harnesses. So I took the harness out of his carriage and attached a dog leash to it... it worked great and he loved having his freedom while I knew he was safe!! But many people would make comments to me like 'a baby isn't a dog' or 'how could you - that's disgusting'. And usually the people who made the comments had no children so they couldn't possibly understand. Other mothers loved the idea and followed my lead. I only wish I would have had the sense to market my idea back then... But EVERY child should have a harness like this just as soon as they can walk. It will save many lives and even keep many children from being kidnapped! No matter how good a parent you think you are, it only takes a second for a child to get injured, killed or dissappear when your back is turned. This is a MUST HAVE item! Now, as a grandma of three, it is very difficult to keep up with a running toddler so this harness is a godsend and an insurance policy that my grandbabies will be safe when we go out. It's such a tiny investment to make to ensure your child's safety!
