Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple Ignites

For fans of Chima, or as the marketing elves at Lego dubbed it, "Legends Of Chima," as if to spite critics by ensconcing it in its place among historical fantasy themes in brick building history faster than Dino, after building with this new set and its 1300+ pieces, I have to agree with Lego's coronation of this line in its pantheon of pretend worlds. It's a marvelous rendering of that world that this critic understands Fluminox and Flinx are key minifigures, though the set has so much that is new and exciting it matters not why. It matters that this part in that color and his new building technique and this flying inferno of imagination is bold enough to think a man dare follow the instructions and focus or fail. No time to linger at the crescent rise of the chasm just visible over the cut of the standard issue khakis.

It's an urgent drive to create the scene of the Chima legends flying the phoenix into the blazing temple, as though special ops elite commando Tormax is ordering an attack with scarcely time to build the interconnected bricks, plates, tiles, rods, pin, and build the towering edifice stud by stud.

I have never bought a set before knowing nothing about the plot line or characters. I still know less about Chima than I should admit. But it's a testament to the power of Lego make-believe that the new parts -- from side-stud snaps to flaming wings to a dozen "missiles" that look like they could easily double for bouncy balls similar to the ones in other sets got me to invest in this set just to have the cool parts -- is something of profound power Lego induces when this is so innovative it causes itself to fly off the shelves (pun intended) and makes one tear open a box mot of mere bricks but of orange flames, tan masonry details that make cracks designed into this particular piece look like artistic flair, because when such stark bare minimalist design is so divine, it is a legend indeed. Asset for Chima fans, wow-factor piece discovery for no matter how one dares to use this set. Which is to say it's no mere set -- it's an asset to add to your wish list.

Only suggestion is that they not go so heavy on the technic erector-set style pulleys and cranks and such. But complaints? Not after viewing the gleaming new color palette offerings and building a coffee shop and police car from the endless potential this set contains. It's hard not to just rip open the box on impulse and start freestyle formation.

Comments about LEGO Legends of Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple (70146):

My son loves building legos and when he saw the Flying Phoenix he just had to have it. I thought he might have been to young to put it together being only 5 years old but he did it pretty much on his own. The instructions were simple enough for him to follow except for a few steps where he needed my help. After construction I thought that it would be very flimsy and break easily with all the moving parts and it being so large but it performs great. It hasn't broke or malfunctioned in any way, it is simple to use and my son plays with it for hours. He wants to collect the entire set now and after seeing this lego toy first hand I will definitely be getting more for my little guy. Thanks and can't wait to see what comes out next.

LEGO, You've Impressed Me Once Again

    By Walrus

    from New Port Richey

Comments about LEGO Legends of Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple (70146):

The build starts with a half-track, I'd say fairly average for Legends of Chima. It has a few uninspired play features, nothing they haven't done before. Aesthetically speaking the half-track is great, and while only having a couple play features, the detail is quite good and captured the image of a saber-tooth tiger well, and for the most part, without stickers. Once again, the mini figures are above average. Although they aren't new (This is the summer wave for last year) they still go above and beyond LEGO's average mini figure standards. The prints are incredibly detailed, and there are some inventive new weapons. Most of the armor we've seen before, but it's great to get more in such a large quantity. The wall surrounding the Flying Phoenix Fire Temple is fairly weak and the parts used could've been much better spent. It's half as tall as a mini figure and doesn't really provide any cover whatsoever, making it pretty much useless. The detail around the gate is decent, and the "fire fountains" are also quite cool, but the whole thing is quite inadequate. The Temple itself is much better. The detailing is superb and the creative parts usage is just enjoyable to build and look at. The transforming action is very smooth and easy to operate one-handedly. The whole aircraft is very appeasing until you get to the back, a mess of technic parts, rubber bands, and dead space. There's many ways they could've covered this up but it's understandable why they didn't. It's still a fun build and the play features more than make up for it, with it's bomb canister, turrets, cockpit, and transforming action. All in all, this is an exceptional set, with an excellent aircraft, first-rate mini figures, amusing play features, and although some areas are weaker than others, the pros outweigh the cons and it's not as erroneous or generic as some other flagship sets.

Comments about LEGO Legends of Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple (70146):

My son chose this set because he loves Chima, the colors and the amount of pieces. The more pieces the better the challenge. He loves that it has so many moving parts and characters with it. He's already lost one of the little bombs, that's the only problem with sets that shoot pieces tend to disappear quickly. All in all he was very happy so, so am I.

Comments about LEGO Legends of Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple (70146):

I was reluctant in buying this set, after purchasing the utter failure of Maula's Ice Mammoth Stomper. But now, looking back, I'm glad I purchased this! For the price, it comes with quite a bit of things! It's got an Ice Rodent, Fire Temple, Shrine\Bomb Refill, 8 minifigures, and of course, the Flying Phoenix! Now, here are my pros and cons: Pros: -Many pieces -Lots of playability -Several minifigures Cons: -Sot of small -Very heavy Overall, I very much recommend this set!

Comments about LEGO Legends of Chima Flying Phoenix Fire Temple (70146):

The flying Phoenix temple (Or Blazing Bastion) is a delightful edition to my collection and would be to any enthusiastic Lego model collector. The most notable and favored function would have to be the landing and flying mode on the craft! One of the main things I truly love about the set, is not the big models, but the minifigures. There are many of them, and a good thing to because they are so detailed (The best would have to be Stealthor). Every vehicle in this set has a flying function, which is quite delightful! I would definitely recommend this to any Lego fan, young or old! Its worth every penny.
